Are they difficult to install? How do you get the ends off of the bars? How do you get the right grip off? I havent looked at my bike yet, but I only have limited time to do this tomorrow. Just looking for any tips, tricks or things to look out for.

The bar ends are just little plastic caps, if you don't care about putting them back in then just pry them off with a set of pliers.

The right grip is attached to the switch/throttle assembly, which comes apart quickly and easily with a couple of screws on the back.

To get the left grip off, just see what you can do about peeling it off. Mine was glued down with the most adhesive ever, so it took me awhile to cut it all off.

After you get the grips off, clean both sides well.

Other than that, read the directions that come with the grips. They come with adhesive, and are very easy to put on.

Just a tip for the right grip, make sure you adjust the throttle cables after you put the screws back in.

I just did my set, and I was scared of the left side because, dry, I couldn't slide it more than about 1/3 of the way on. But once wet with the glue (actually, I took someone's advice and used hairspray), it slipped on very easily.

I don't know if I was supposed to adjust the cable upon reassembly, but I didn't. I'm assuming that the retainers for the new and old grips are identical. If I'm wrong about that, would someone please comment?

They are probably very similar and if the throttle action feels good to you currently, leave it be.

+1, the throttle assembly is identical. mine came loose when i pulled them off somehow so i just had to re-tighten.

For the cables i removed the airbox top and adjusted the throttle cables so they was no slack, but made sure the cables didn't tug on the throttle blades holding them open. I made sure for free action on the throttle...

Its not really necessary, but i just wanted to make sure..

When adjusting the throttle cables, you want a little play at the twist grip. You should be able to rotate the twist grip slightly in either direction without moving the throttle plates. If there's no slack, it can cause binding and excessive wear in the cables.

Traction Grips are probably the best add-on that Buell ever came up with! After you've had them you'll never ride with regular grips again.

I hope the company that made these for Buell will release them to the public since they were an accessory part that is no longer available.

I installed mine this morning. It was pretty simple. It just sucked to scrape the old grips pieces and glue off. Once I got most of it off, I just sanded till it was clean. The right grip was easier than I thought. I thought it would be a pain in the ass with the throttle tube being part of it.

I'm thinking about getting a set of traction grips for my R. For those of you who have them installed, are they worth the change? Improve grip? Reduce fatigue?

I have them on my R, and love them. I never had a problem with grip, but they've vastly improved comfort due to the curve in the palm. However, I also put some lead shot in the bars when I took off my old grips, so that is probably helping with the comfort too.

I put traction grips on last weekend. The grips look and feel great. Just remember to work fast on that left side. That glue starts setting quick. Line up the buell logo and try to get it on in one push. The Right side grip is a piece of cake... Two screws and swap it out. Anyone get the traction pegs? is it worth the money?

Traction pegs: nah. They match the look of the grips, and the core is billet, but no real "performance" improvement. They don't dampen vibrations or grip your feet any better. Pretty, but not the incredible bang-for-buck of the grips!

I have the Traction grips and Uly footpegs. Both are must haves in my book. But i have big hands, and long legs.

The grips were easy - and i love the palm swell. I drilled out the ends to accommodate new bar ends. I used a cheap 7/8" drill bit (the one w/ a center drill bit and then wider hole bit)

Like this but smaller:


Picked up a cheap one from local Ace, looked for one w/ the smallest/most teeth to cut smoothly. maybe $5.

I drilled it from the inside of the grips - I'd freeze it first for next time.

While the uly traction pegs are a bit spendy the 1" drop is worth it. You can get the silver ones for a lot less than most aftermarket ones.
