For those of you that have installed the HMF slip on Exhaust. Step 5 has you add a 1/2 spacer to the footpeg bracket. Is this in addition to the spacers that are already there or instead of the stock spacers. It will bolt up either way but the pipe is real close to the swingarm without the second spacer, but the foot peg bracket looks way out there with both

man if only that end tip matched perfectly with the red.... how noticeable is the difference in person? |

I was wondering when someone would take advantage of HMF and do some color matching. Looks great ! If I wasn't broke I wanted to take them up on there Fleabay specials with a black can and yellow cap. |

I used the supplied ones and not the original's ! Its a super tight fit, can't remember exactly what i did but i had to use a few different bolts around the oil cooler to get it all lined up perfect. The best sounding can imho and doesn't invade the rider whislt on the move. |

I just stuck with the original Buell spacer. But I did mix things up a bit to lower slightly and pull the muffler in a bit. I used the round muffler tip rather than the "euro" tip, so I was able to tuck the muffler in just a little. Mike |

I have both spacers in now. I guess I will take 2 out, it will be a tight fit. The red looks about the same in person. It is a candy red and not quite a match to the bike but I still like it . Sound is Awesome Rick |

I had to put the spacers back in . The pipe hits the swing arm once it gets hot , just barley |

thanks for the info. I'll be installing the HMF pipe later this week. Any tips, like the ones on this thread, are welcome. |

Well the HMF can arrived about 4:20pm and it gets dark quick so I got going and the only weirdness I ran into was 1) Dropping the stock exhaust: front mount left side allen bolt (6mm) is secured by a nut that is not easy to get at. I ended up using a large flat bladed screwdriver to jam the nut so I could spin off the bolt. Reinstalling is no problem as you will then have free access from below. You will need to remove the little cast bracket on the left that supports the oil cooler bracket because that is trapped in the flange of the stock exhaust. 2) Installing the merge pipe onto the header stubs is absolutely impossible without loosening the front header. With the merge pipe rotated so the welded support tab is behind the cast lug on the engine case slip it up onto the inboard header stub about 1/4" and then twist it so the support tab slips up onto the lug while (this is the fun part) simultaneously feeding the loosened outboard header stub into the merge pipe. It's just as easy as it sounds 3) Hardware. Apparently there is one nut less than you actually need unless I lost or overlooked something in the dark. Remount the oil cooler bracket using the old allen bolts the one old nut and one nut from the HMF kit...but that will leave you one nut short to mount the supplied short allen bolt through the foot peg bracket and into the muffler bracket...so improvise. 4) Right side foot control bracket spacers etc. Not so much a weirdness, but thought I would add that I used the supplied spacers and not the stock spacer and the order of the assembly from left to right is case lug/HMF bracket/spacer/peg bracket/stock washer/supplied longer allen bolt for the two forward mounting locations and Locknut/HMF bracket/no spacer/peg bracket/stock washer/short allen bolt through the third central location. 5) Getting the can to clear the swingarm but stay tucked is all about the tightening procedure. First thing I did was loosely fit the assembly and re-tighten the front header to the engine. Then I tightened down the foot peg bracket and muffler bracket and got the muffler where I needed it to clear the swingarm before clamping it to the merge pipe. Then I got the merge pipe bracket tightened down and finally I tightened the single inboard clamp on the merge pipe to header stub connection. Hope that helps. |

i just finished the install. does anyone have the torque specs for the header flange nuts? I didn't want to do it, but I too found the easiest way to get the merge pipe on was by loosening the front header nuts. i'll have to fiddle with the spacers and such once I put it through a heat cycle or two. clearance wasn't too bad before I fired it up, but something in the heating of it all brought my swingarm to muffler clearance factor waay down. Maybe sitting with 1-2mm of space between them right now. thanks for the help. --Kevin |

Try loosening all the clamps and mounting bolts and sort of massage the assembly and see if you might have created a "spring" in the way you have it mounted. |

i don't think its that bad... but then again, I used to drive a full exhaust 306ci mustang, x-pipe w/o cats and flowmaster one chambers... the rumble at idle is low, deep and throaty. Sounds great to me. My fiancee was surprised, she was expecting louder too. as the RPMs rise, the deep rumble gets a little higher pitched, and i admit i'm a little concerned with police attention. I was told though that when driving away, it didn't sound that loud either, so it could just be me. I've only ridden it about 10 miles since completing install, so long term impressions will have to wait. |

has anyone else noticed a slight stumble around 4k since installing the pipe? Finally got to ride it for about 30 min today and it seems the lower rpm's stumble when you roll on it hard. It always pulled smoothly before. The AFV's are still 100/100 also Rick |

I could believe there is a stumble.... Only a tune would really fix it. thats the crappy thing about Speed density EFI... if you make the engine more efficient it can cause the EFI to make the bike run funny. Speed density is all a calculated guess based on set parameters..change the exhaust and you changed a fixed parameter that the computer can not compensate for... it should be able to learn a little so ride it some more and see if it get better, if it doesn't then you'll have to live with it or get the bike tuned... this is my biggest concern for changing the exhaust. For me i just want a bit more sound, not necessarily more ooomph... |

Is this pipe any louder than some Vance & Hines long shots on a FXST rolling down the road? I am totally new to the sport bike market and was looking at the HMF + K&N deal. |
