Quoted from Buelletinboard:
Dallas, The passageway through the frame that you used for your turbo pipe was actually put in the frame for that reason. Although we kinda pointed an air scoop at it for the naturally aspirated bikes, actually the XB series was designed from the get-go for a turbo derivative. Had nothing to do with Germany, except as one of our many markets. We were deep into turbo research and pre-production testing for turbo bikes and made it all the way through our full durability testing with two pre-prod bikes. However, the project was killed by H-D leadership. So after we knew it was dead and gone for good, we plugged up both sides of the hole and added fuel capacity back. I think that happened around 2005. We were not using the Garret, but a variable turbo with an ECU controlled boost level. 150+ RWHP and 120+ ft-lbs torque with full durability, emissions and noidse compliant. They were cool as hell. Eh, not sure I believe this one. Throwing a turbo on a Sportster engine and trans with a 2 year warranty? I say it is BS. |

If you've got money to blow then why not throw a turbo on a Sportster engine with a 2 year warranty? I want someone to throw a turbo on an XR1200 and see how much 'ass' it could kick. I'd beat it hands down on my RSV4, not the bone stock scg though... |

What is hard to believe? It very well is possible, its not like there aren't any other vehicles out there with turbos. Also back then they had only 1 year warranties |

No NO2 for this bloke, I heard it takes thousands of km's off engines when NO2 is used. I don't want to imagine what it would do to a V-twin. |

Used correctly it does not cause harm to engines. |

Nitrous is a handy tool for finding the weak parts I used to buy it in 125# cylinders and crossfill into those little blue 3 pounders. Normally took 9 full cylinders to the track for a day's fun. It's not as hard on parts as you think...it all depends on how good the tuneup is, how hard you lean on it, and how good the parts in the powertrain are...you can go for as little as 6-8 extra HP to as much as around 50-60 with a sportsman kit...thing is, the more you add the better your timing control has to be...nitrous has a lot faster flame front than dtraight gas....so you need some timing retard or you will detonate...and at some point the cylinder pressure will catch up with the stock head gasket.... On my old dragbike, I launched on motor (about 175hp)...brought in a 50 hp nitrous shot 1.5 seconds out, and progressed another 50 hp beginning at 3 seconds out on a 2 second ramp...timing ramped backwards, leaving at 41 degrees lead and regressing to 30 degrees at 3.5 seconds. The bike only 60 footed at 1.25 (nice easy launch) and smoothly progressed to "pull your arms off" by the 330....what a ball to ride...expensive to maintain and time consuming...but..fun. |

so whats the point of the giant airbox if it was planned to the forced fed? and why is the frame snorkel hole so odd shaped in the first place; for a turbo it shouldnt be that large of a hole...? none the less i want to go get a turbo for my bike because those numbers sound great. these motors are practically bullet proof mechanically and can be taken through some abuse because of how simple they are. how much boost do you think Erik was going to throw in there, 15psi, 20psi??? |

With the quoted power numbers I'm guessing peak boost would be around 10 psi |
