Hey guys, This is my first post but have been using sight for past few months. I have an 01 m2 with about 4k miles (purchased from a friend 4 months ago) I changed the oil with spectro v-twin 20w50 full synthetic and k&n filter. It was the second oil change in past 3 month (changed when I bought it, then yesterday when I drained and disconnected oil tank to paint frame). After changing oil the engine wouldn't start. I believe engine was flooded from swapping handle bars and throttle being tested multiple times prior trying to start the bike. Checked plugs, they were pretty black and wet. After cleaning them with 400 sandpaper and letting it sit overnight the engine started but was making a horrible knocking/pinging sound. I only let it run for about 15-20 seconds. I tried again a few minutes later and it was still making the same sound. The sound is by no means subtle and definitely not how an engine should sound. I did my research on BADweb and think that it could be from improper combustion from the fouled plugs. But how loud is knocking/pinging caused bad plugs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Victor |

Don't go any further. Replace the plugs w/new ones, and try again. Bad spark from bad plugs can be really bad. Not to mention damage from pre-ignition (pinging) issues, 'tho you didn't put a load on the engine. Replacing the sparkplugs w/new should solve your issues. |
