Real similar to my Chippewas that I wear practically every day, all day.
I'd get a pair with all the plastic bits if I ever get to do a track day.
For the commuting and all-too-infrequent trips in the hills, mine work well for me.

I've had problems with boots for a long time. Much of this stems from my 3E width foot and the failure of most boot makers to realize that people have different width feet as well as different length feet.
My objectives were to find a boot that had proper fitment, was comfortable for all-day touring, was waterproof, had heavy protection for those days when pushing the limits, and would work well at the track. I think I found those boots, but at a hefty price. After a year of wearing them, I would buy them again and highly recommend them (Sidi Vertigo Mega Gore-Tex). The "plastic bits" while seemingly a turn off at first, are great because if you are leaned all the way offer and have road contact, they can be easily replaced at a nominal cost.
I do like the leather Chippewa boots and notice they come in widths, so may pick up a pair of them in the future (but they are not waterproof). The Aerostich boots also look like fine boots, but are not offered in widths.

The "walking around" thing is a bit of a problem.
IF I know I'm going to be doing any walking, I bungee my tennies on the back of the seat. Otherwise it's the SMX Alpinestars and I just don't walk very far (and squeak when I walk) |

I plan on being able to ride aggressive around and maybe get off for a brief stops and also be able to use them for track use.I also want to be able to replace parts if necessary.Im a aggressive rider on the backroads of southern ohio and a occassional gap ride .I usually stay there a week twice to 3 times a year.
In late fall season I had a small spinout on a dirty road and hurt my ankle.After this incident I'm starting to think about doing more trackdays instead of almost going over a cliff and then being greeted by amish people .They were nice enough to help me put my bike together.Damage >The fairing stay broke,Trunk pan broke and grass rash on the plastic which buffed out.Stock exhaust never even took a lick.Thats another reason why I like this stock pipe.I came out of the wreck with my leg swelled up and and my ankle was trashed for months and is now just getting better.My jacket which had a back pad saved my back.I went through a cow fence.My leg took a post blow and my back went through a slat .Very lucky !! The bike spun out in the grass.I opened my eyes to a cliff 10 feet away.Rt 800 ohio.I plan on getting more aggressive in a safer enviroment such as a track.So thats my riding Habits minus the wreck .Which was my first.Been riding since 02. |

How do the sidis run in sizes ?Are they narrow or wide ?And same with the smx4 or smx5? |

I have Sidi Corsa Vertigos and love em, not only are they great riding boots, they're actually comfortable to walk in. As in as good as walking shoes comfortable.
I used the size conversion chart on the Sidi website and they fit fine. |

Slaugher: Your Alpinestars sound like my Oxtars. Those are reserved for track days only because they are just too noisy and uncomfortable off the bike. |

Sidis run true to size for me - 45 = 10.5 - and a bit narrow. Seems to be consistent among their different boots. Alpinestars tend to be a bit wide and large (like thick-sock sized).

The Sidis tend to run true to length (44=10). Their "wide" is advertised as an EE. Still a bit snug for me, but better than anything else I can find. I have a pair of Alpinestars too, which run true to length, but I needed a can-opener to get into them because of width problem (D, but need EE-EEE). |

Fact is its a style thing. Any purpose built boot will do the job just fine, and even some that aren't made for it will most likely work but why chance it.
There are a lot of great boots out there( even Joe Rocket. and they do sell parts) It even seems some are even made in the same factories under various brand names.
I have several pairs. a couple for track, one for cold weather, and even a typical biker boot type if I'm gonna be walking around.
Don't just go buy what others tell ya. Get something for your own style and budget. |

The Sidi's are not built for long walks. The soles at the ball of the foot is pretty thin. They're very well built and I'll buy another pair of them when mine wear out. I've had a pair of Vertigo's for 3 or 4 years now. |
