Saab makes great cars, too . . . . . they work better than damn near anything else I've ever driven . . . . they should rent out their ero engineers, as they are the only car company to get it, apparently! |

Just picked up a 2003 9-3 Convertible. Laugh at the shape if you will, but these things are the best cars I've ever driven. The first Saab I drove, 3 cars ago, made me skeptical of any car not produced by a compant that makes fighter aircraft on the side. Best thing about the Saab is it will hold about the same as the Ford F-250 Supercab. HINT: If you are considering the 911 Carrera and the cat's meow of foreign scootmobiles and your sufficient other is a shopper, I can assure you that one day of show shopping/packing will make the hood (oddly enough in the front) look like it was hit from the inside by someone attempting to escape with an 870 pump shotgun. The Saab, in New York City were my average commute speed today was 19MPH, just does lots of things well...I call it "mission appropriate". Hey....I have observed a new phenomenon today that could potentially be a huge threat to ghetto yute's longevity. Remind me to write about it someday...I'm still digesting, shaking my head and wondering if I really saw what I think I saw. My brother started a new job recently as a Service Director at a Caddy/Saab dealer and got a Saab convertible as a perk. The good news? he's 15mi from the Dragon.

hehehe coincidentally my new toy is here also, and as soon as I washed and cleaned it I will let you see some pics too. HOWEVER, as soon as IT is washed and new pics are taken the Buell is going up on EGAY starting at $1 NO RESERVE, so save up that lunch money. I will post the link here, as soon as its up! If anybody makes me a reasonable offer in the meantime, I will give it up unwashed ... http://community.webshots.com/user/the_bullgod_78 boese, OH |

Mark, Is that an SPG 900? I have owned several Saab 900s over the years and my current is a 1989 900s and the only thing I wish it had is a turbo. The car has 210000km and I would drive it across the country if I had to. It holds the road real well and the fit and finish of the interior is fantastic. I also do my own work on this thing and the over-engineering of the components is something else. This past winter was hard on the car as I just recently did the ball joints and brakes but I figure now its good for at least another 100 000km before I need to do any other repairs. My next Saab will be a late 80's early 90's 900 Convertible. |

Yup, Thats the one, The only problem with that car is it is not RED, but my next choice would be white. I get a kick when I give a friend the keys to my 900 and tell them to go to the store or take it for a drive. Usually after 10 minutes or so they come back to me wondering where to put the key. I was going to go to Toronto, Ontario last week for the Harley Primary Officer Training and while there I was going to look at an 88 Red 900 Convertible which appeared to be in good condition but the POT was cancelled due to the World Health Organization's warning about SARS. We (our group of three) would have went anyway thinking that massive quantities of alcohol would kill any virus that got near us. Unfortunately - the Upper Canadians were not of the same mindset. Oh well I will have to wait. It was a blessing in a way as she would have killed me for shipping a car home.

Well I'm an expert when it comes to SAAB and the truth is every car they've made after May 1993, except the 9000 model which they were phasing out for a couple or three more years, is a croc-o-shit compared to previous models. No one and I mean no one who I know in the SAAB game has a good word to say about the modern SAAB's. GM, globalisation, shared floor plans and best intentions have succeeded in cheapening the best cars in the world, SAAB. You want to know the funny part? The trick was done right under our nose's. Now we have to contend with those bloody awful 9-3's and they are dog shit compared to the original 900. That original 900 has its design roots planted firmly in the first car SAAB ever built and you can see it in many aspects. Not so that new thing they call 9-3. They put the ignition key in-between the seats as a token gesture from the classic 900 and that's about all. Just my humblest but what SAAB (GM) should have done was continue the classic 900 in much the same way Porsche has evolved its 911, but they wouldn't because the build quality and the component quality is far superior on those classic 900's than it is on the current SAAB's which all adds up to less money spent. You know what's worse, they ain't that nice to drive and they aren't enjoyable to work on either. Try replacing the clutch on a 9-3 or overhauling the rear brakes. No job satisfaction there I can tell ya. You want to know the best SAAB ever built? That's easy. The 99 TURBO, hands down!!!!!!! Off my soap box, ta for listening Rocket |

Rocket, Your spot on!!!!!I'll drink a beer to that one. Any Saab pre 1993 is a good Saab. The components are something else compared to the new ones. Just recently I was reading that the new 9-3 is going to share the same platform as the Chevy Malibu and the Pontiac Grand-AM. F*&K that, thats not a SAAB, thank you GM. The 99 Turbo was a sweet machine - I have only ever seen one Saab 99 around here, mostly 900s but believe it or not there are a few 9-3 starting to become popular. Still don't compare to the Classic Lines of the 79-93 900s. Oh we thats progress for ya. |

Ahh a 99 the best SAAB? No way, My vote goes to the 850 Monte Carlo. Now there was a fine high performance car. 3 single barrel carbs, a free wheeling transmission, oil injection and a radiator mounted next to the fire wall. Fine machine. |
