Anyone have a picture of what these HAL bearing spacers look like before install? Are they a press fit into the bear ID? | ||

You're talking about wheel spacers right? I've never heard of bearing spacers, from Hal's anyways. FWIW, the wheel spacers have nothing to do with the bearings (Message edited by brinnutz on December 07, 2009) | ||

Yes, i am talking about the wheel spacers. I thought they were a combo of wheel spacer/bearing spacer. Isnt the tuber axle 25mm diameter and the XB axle 30mm diameter? How is everyone using a tuber axle in a xb bearing then? thats why i was looking for a picture. I read about them all the time but have never seen a pic of them. | ||

No, the spacers are for the area between the fork and the wheel. You have to use different bearings that match the tuber axle. All you do is go to a bearing house, give them the ID of the axle, and the OD of bearing and bam. So, you need the spacer, and different bearings. Make more sense now? Hal's look similar to what is currently on your bike, just a different thickness. | ||

are you talking about the front wheel (fork) or the rear? Could you point me in the direction of a bearing house i could talk to and what would i be asking for as far as a bear.... i think i want a 55mm OD x 25mm ID x ??mm width? | ||

The front wheel, you use the tuber bearings in the XB wheel, then cut two of the longer stock spacers to center the wheel. I used two left spacers from the '95-98 bikes and cut them to the size I needed. On The rear, I used Hals spacers that I bought second-hand, so I can't guarantee anything about them. They are a combination of wheel/bearing spacers, because they center the wheel and have a sleeve to use the XB bearings (30 mm ID) on the 25 mm axle. I had to cut mine down, so they were possibly for a conversion using the aluminum swingarm, though I had to cut quite a bit and still trim the caliper bracket for it all to fit. Trying to hunt down custom bearings will run you into a brick wall. The best the bearing manufacturers I talked to (SKF, FAG, and a few lesser known names) would do is offer to build a sleeve spacer for an existing bearing. There are a few people that will build these spacers for you for about $50/pr once you verify the size, if you can't find some Hals spacers. One guy on Buellforums, on my "converting my S2 to XB wheels" thread, said he could build the spacers. | ||

thanks for the info. For the front i am planning on using a set of 03 XB forks which i already have. I was mainly wondering how the rear worked. I was looking for a picture of the spacers or dimensions and what type of tolerances between the 25mm axle and the 25mm spacer hole, and the tolerance between the 30mm bearing hole, and the 30mm step on the spacer to fit into the bearing. Are these supposed to be press fit or not, does just the tighting of the rear axle snug the reducer bearing spacer up enough to allow the bearing to spin and function properly. | ||

Ross, those rear spacers were as they came from Hal's. I bought them new and never got the chance to use them. I agree that custom bearings are a brick wall. I spoke to many different bearing companies trying to find ones to fit the XB wheel directly to a 1" (Sportster) or 25mm (Tuber) axle, and the minimum order was much more than would've been cost effective. | ||

Yo wilson, they are bearing/wheel spacers. i used to have a set of them. The inner part slides into the bearing. | ||

Since you asked for a pic, I'll check to see if I have one. My home computer is busted right now, so it may take a week or so before I get it back. Ross, no offense taken. I still feel bad about not knowing they wouldn't work unmodified for the steel swingarm. | ||

ok- Hals does not offer these anymore so i will be making my own set... I have all my measurements and design figured out. should i go with aluminum 6061 (or different grade?) or stainless 304 (or different grade)? my x1 spacer and brake bracket are both aluminum but there is a steel or stainless bushing in my brake bracket.... | ||

I would make them out of aluminum. The ones I have are aluminum, the stock spacers were aluminum, and, if you have to massage them for a better fit, it's easier to work with aluminum. |
