I wonder if a new belt gets longer if it is heated up. Anyone care to heat one up in the oven to about 150 degees and compare it's ambient temp length. I'd do it but I don't have a new belt. Hot belt might be easier to mount. Everything expands by some % when it's heated up. |

Hi Electraglider, The belt material, old design to new should be approximately the same for figuring the rate of expansion. The percent of elongation should be the same for an old belt or new. |

Not sure about the "belt getting loose before breaking" thing... Mine gave NO indication before failing in a nearly straight line break this past weekend. Normal riding, no abuse, 19k, ridden year round in NEOhio. Fortunately, it happened close enough to home i coasted the better part of the way before pushing... supposedly, according to H-D, the belts will be avail. again after 12/08. I can do 2 weeks w/o, but I wish I'd had more warning- not fond of keeping nearly $200 spare anythings sitting on the shelf |

Im starting to keep tabs now. The 06 and 07 bikes (Belts rev B and D) had a 2 year head start, so as far as I know, most of the breaks have been them. I snapped my D belt at a hair under 30k miles, running a E now. I feel bad for the 03 owners, I think they are up to revision R! |

I put a new rear tire on the XT today. I was looking at the belt and noticed it looked to missing a tooth. Is this normal? If not, I wonder if HD will replace it under warranty? |

Please take a picture and post it here, I want to see it. Missing a tooth is NOT normal. It should be covered under warranty, but some dealers think a belt is a wear item and won't cover it. Also, what part number is on it? I believe it was for 2009 model year they switched to the AKE belt, so you might have the AKD. |

AKD. I'd think for it to be abuse that there would have to be more than just one gone. I don't do burnouts. Well not on my XT.

Belts ie rubber get smaller not larger when heated up. Heat up a rubber band and see what happens |

Bosh...did you check American Sports Bikes? Got one from them in the last couple weeks. You could cancel the other. |

My dealer usually has the belt in stock, but all belts are off given how everyone raided the dealers in fear of discontinuation and caused a backorder. |

Bosh...did you check American Sports Bikes? Might end up doing that. I'm in no hurry (yet) my belt seems to be holding up even though it's a little loose. Still looks like new. I have the 2010 back wheel and a few other things on order from the same folks so I don't want to confuse them. |

woohoo, I took the Uly in to the dealer today and the Kenny the warranty man said the missing tooth is covered. Said it would be done 12/28 or maybe a little later with Christmas. |
