Does anyone know of any carbon fiber manufacturers and sales that will sell CF for an 1125r? This would include frame and swing arm pieces as well. Thanks! skipro152 2008 1125r 2005 FLHTCI |

Don't know about frame and swingarm pieces but when I get my bike out of storage in the spring I am going to make some carbon fairings, and also a carbon airbox cover. Thats a ways down the road though, when they are completed I will post pics. What parts are you looking for? Structural or just cosmetic? You may be able to make them yourself. |

Thank you for the responses. I'm just looking for cosmetic pieces, such as frame and swing arm covering, etc. The website you sent has good selection. Have either of you checked out MDI-Carbon Fiber? They sell a few pieces on ebay. |

I have an airbox on order from MDI. Shipping is slow (2 weeks so far) but when I complained they lowered the price by $10 and promised arrival this week. Communication is prompt. I will post up a review when I see the item. If you look at their seller feedback on ebay, it is largely positive (around 99% I think), but there are smatterings of dissatisfaction with quality. If I don't like the piece I will pay the shipping to return it . . . |

I've seen the MDI stuff on ebay, and you get what you pay for. I can see some minor defects in the fabric (a plain weave carbon), and they are probably using a polyester resin, you can tell by the smell, it will smell like styrene. There is also no telling if it is actually carbon or just dyed fiberglass (for cosmetic purposes these things are trivial). The only other issue you may have is if the UV coating is cheap the parts may yellow and cloud over time. There is a site, something like OPPracing, and they claim to have a good article about good vs. bad carbon parts. I would be careful with sites that tell you what to look for, while at the same time selling parts. Most of the information on the site was a little off the mark, some just plain incorrect. You can make small cosmetic pieces pretty easily, the larger ones are trickier. It's all in the mold making. If you want to see some really cool carbon, google carbon/kevlar twill. I will be using blue/black hybrid for my pieces. Good Luck. |

I've seen the buckle-guards for the airbox in CF...but would really like to see one made for the flat section of the passenger pillion cover that faces the drivers seat. I'm tall; my Fieldsheers are already starting to put some wear on it. I guess that's what I get for buying a black bike... |

Ilmberger makes the high quality stuff for the 1125's. You can get it through Trojan I believe. Its crazy expensive though, but supposed to be very nice. There is one US importer who sells them that I know of, but I can't mention them because they are not a sponsor. |

Well because you are reluctant to tell for no reason, I googled and found http://www.rideaddict.com and http://www.motosupply.com I didn't see any prices on Rideaddict, but Motosupply was +/-$5 on the few items I compared on both sites. Personally I would get them from Trojan, as I know they have a good reputation and wont let you down. I don't know anything about Motosupply though. |

I am always iffy about what I can post and what I cant. I didnt know if it was considered promoting a non sponsor. The site I was speaking of is Diesel Moto. http://www.diesel-moto.com/newproducts/ilmberger-c arbonparts/1125r-cr.html They are a Buell specific site. They make a fender eliminator for the xb's as well as sell carbon parts and HPE exhausts. Never bought from them, but they do have a large selection of Ilmberger carbon parts. They first site you listed shows buell but the link doesnt work for me. the other only has a few parts. From what i see they are about the same as Diesel I have a cf front fender transferred from the X. I would like to get the heat shield, swing arm heel guards, and the asb buckle guard to compliment the fender. Maybe Santa will bring them! |

The Ilmberger stuff looks the business, pre preg and all. Expensive. I wonder if the extended flyscreen actually improves wind protection as they claim, not that I have an issue with the current situation. I do like the billet keyless fuel caps, always installed those. |
