Thinking about getting the Braking Wave rotors, I can get front and rear for under 300 new. Or, should I save and get the ZTL2 instead? I can't afford both right now. I'm not a racer. More of a weekend rider in the hills. What would you do and why? I ride a XB12STT |

I put both on, mostly for the looks! I am not good enough to know a difference in performance, other than it stops better than my Blast. |

I would imagine pads would be the most bang for the buck, maybe with rotors. I am currently running Lyndall Golds and have another set I won free that will likely go on with my next set of tires (need them now) as my current set got toasted at the track. They feel noticably less powerful then OEM's though, used to stoppie with OEM's, these, not so much. |

I installed lydalls on my 03 front and rear ( atleast I think the rears too ) stopped good.... Then later on installed a front ZTL2 caliper with stock pads!!! WOW! Big difference! Took a bit of getting used to. Just much more bite now! I love it. Regular ZTL is so tiny compared to the ZTL2 setup. You get 2 extra pistons, plus they all have to be bigger pistons. |

I would go with the ZTL2. The rotors look cool but the ZTL2 would give you a bigger performance bump. The front rotor is already so big and cross drilled that the wave rotor isn't much of a difference. If you were on the track the wave would make a bigger diff cause it would cool faster but on the street you shouldn't ever notice any fade. |

Wave rotor has much less surface than stock and will warp if abused. Eight pistons seems like a bit much to me. I have found that a Brembo master cylinder with the stock caliper works awesome on either rotor. If you are going to beat the bike up on the track or do tons of stoppies I would stay away from the wave. |

I think I may stick with the stock rotors and add Lyndall pads. ZTL2 caliper brake pads are more money and I am happy with the stock caliper. |

Not sure how they will effect braking on the 6 piston but on the 8's they made it more progressive but less powerful. |

Best bang for the buck is likely pads - I'm not a fan of Lyndalls. Good for moderate braking, but can't compete with EBC or DP sintered pads - they provide great feedback at the limit of braking performance while Lynd's feel like wood. In addition I had high rotor wear with Lynd "Gold" pads. For your riding style I'd recommend EBC organic pads because you'll likely need good performance at lower pad temperatures. Also make sure your pistons are coming out evenly from the caliper - a stuck piston will not give good brake performance. |

can you just do the ZTL2 master? I dont like how hard I need to pull on my lyndall gold pads. but I didn't like the pulsing of the stock either. like sloppy says they feel like wood. I think they may be in my brembo rear too... yuck! or do the ebc stay smooth too? |

I never got pulsing with OEM's... I won a free set of Lyndalls but I am not really wanting the pads, need some fresh ones so might toss them in this month when I do fresh tires and then switch to some EBC before the next track day. |

The stock master cylinder for either front brake is "Junk". If you cannot afford a new radial master cylinder go and get a master cylinder off a CBR954RR, works with stock single brake line. This was may 2nd mod I did to my bike bought the master cylinder and lever for $15.00. Night and day difference in braking power with minimum lever pull, also the brake lever has a reach adjustment.I am still running the stock pads at 12,000 miles, but I have purchased a set front/rear Ferodo pads for future use. The CBR954RR master cylinder is a Nissan and it also has the mounting hole for the mirror stalk. I would love to have a radial unit but for only $15.00 it was one of my cheapest mods with the greatest bang for the buck. I also recommend the Magura Hydraulic clutch this was my 1st mod/improvement over stock crap not the cheapest but probably the best modification for the money period. |
