I changed the oil recently. According to 2009 manual it says 2.7 quarts, but according to 2010 manual it says 3.3 quarts (with filter change). At first, I added 3 quarts, and it was at minimum level, then it went even lower, I added more. Now it's at full level, and 3.3 quarts seems about right. I don't understand how manual specified 2.7 quarts, it's not enough! |

make sure you have the correct oil check procedure - 2.7-2.8 qts has always worked for me |

2010's also have a different engine case, hence the need for more oil. |

Yes, I followed the oil check procedure. Hot and cold. I have 2009. |

This is an issue with Buell. I have been there with this some bikes build dates seem to hold more oil than others. I called Buell on it. Talked to a tech directly and they said for some reason certain bikes might take a little more than what is written in manual. Mine does for sure. I start with 3 quarts with mine now after two oil changes. I usually have to put in a few more ounces after that starting basis. 3 quarts puts mine near the full mark cold! (2009cr) Doing a hot check it is almost above the overfilled mark! I still put in 3 quarts and so far so good. It seems like they really screwed up the dipstick on these bikes and what is the deal with two drain plugs? Anyone own any other bike that has two? |

I don't usually have the patience for the hot check. But after getting mine back from servicing (where they swore it took the full 3 quarts), I couldn't see it on the dipstick either cold or hot check. So I added a bit (maybe 1/5 of a quart) and the cold check was right in the middle. When hot, it was just over the "Overfill" line. The next cold and hot check showed it at the top end of the range. Since it looked like I was chasing a moving target, I just tightened the plug and filed it under "Close Enough"! Mike |

Two drains with different plugs and different washers. I'm no engineer, but something seems downright comical about that. My Blast also took maybe 1/2 qt more than the manual said it should. Maybe we're just draining the old oil more completely than the garden variety mechanic. |
