The inner airbox comes off without tools, but the outer intake cover does not; so I've made the outer removable without tools by using American Sport Bike seat pins. Pics:
The 'leash' with split pins is unnecessary when using the inner airbox, which I do; but I've used the leash anyway on the front pins. Likely to try the pins on the lower screws that retain the front fairing; and on the r/h radiator pod cover, the better to check the coolant level (for the life of me I can't see the oem coolant [pale yellow] through the viewing port inside the r/h pod). |

Interesting, I might steal that idea, I like to swap my tank bag between bikes, and this would be easier than moving the buckles around. Or I could just buy spare buckles.... |

Red, great idea! Reminds me of the muscle cars with lift-off hoods. They almost always have a metal "shoulder washer" on the hood so that the clip doesn't dig into the hood material itself. Or do you have plastic washers? |

The eagle is from eBay Germany; not worrying about metal washers because the intake cover is a flexible plastic and doesn't scratch like a metal hood did in the 60s; the 'noid has never given me trouble, perhaps something's different on the 09s like mine. |
