In another thread I admitted dropping my bike while unloading it fom a trailer. This resulted in a deep (bare metal) scratch on the frame right on the edge where the frame pucks go onthe xb's. I know there is touch up paint, but I doubt it'll cover. I also have some pegasus stickers on the way. So I'm looking for options. Will those frame pucks fit? | ||

no they will not.... but with some slight modification to the ones off of a ULY i heard they will.. all the others wont | ||

Sorry to hear about your mishap. This is a good thread. Does anyone know of any other frame sliders that would fit the 1125? Or are the lobster claws that cover the radiators specifically designed to be the throw-away pieces? This is what I heard about the original design and saw in another thread that they are about $50 each. Almost the same price as frame sliders so I guess its a wash. Jeff | ||

well i scratched the rad covers too.... And will order a new cover. But I have a scratch (gouge really) on that ridge that is at the frames wides point. I've seen full frame covers but those be pricey. But shorty carbon covers might be an option. If I saw a glowing review of the touchup paint I may try it. But it looks like I'll be just putting a sticker over it.  | ||

Go find a local powdercoater. Get some wrinkle black powdercoat and mix is to a pasty consistency with acetone, in a small tub or something that you can use as a pallet. Get a small paint brush and dab it onto the scratch, then take a papertowel and wad it and dab it onto to repair just as it is drying a bit and it will give it the wrinkle effect. Let it dry all the way, you can also use a hairdryer and it will be hard just like powder coat. That is how we used to fix our mistakes when I worked for a coater. You don't need much powder, about 2 ounces or so should be more than enough. Don't mix it too runny. Good luck. | ||

Joe, I've used the Buell Phantom Metallic touch up spray paint on small scratches on my swingarm. You need to use thin dry coats, but it matches up very well. On the right side, I masked too close to the scratch and laid the paint on too thick so you can see the mask lines and it has a smoother texture than the surrounding area. On the left side, I just masked for overspray, and sprayed in split second bursts with a few minutes to dry between each burst. It dries very quickly and the repair is virtually invisible. The texture and slight sparkle finish are exactly like the original powder coat. | ||

On the other hand, I like the idea of some modified pucks to prevent exactly the type of damage you describe. I think the carbon covers look pretty trick, but they are really expensive. I have thought about cutting down Uly pucks to fit. I would also be interested if anyone has tried this. | ||
