did you guys experience an increase in vibration after doing the swap?

im wondering if the extra vibration is one of two things...

1. the nrhs mount causing more vibration with a different mounting design all together
(also i have one hole in the mount that i couldnt figure out went to anything?)

2. when i had the front head off, i was jacking the engine around a little bit to get the new front head back on, so maybe the rear isolators were damaged a little, as far as i know they are original and 13 years old?

Did you replace the front? I would just replace them all for piece of mind, that way you know how old/new they are. =)

The spare hole is for the front tie bar if it was present.
The X1 had it, the M2 did not, not sure about the S3.
I don't believe S1's had them either.

Not unless someone put it there.
The frame and front mount have the holes but the M2's didn't have them installed.
At least not the 2000 and 2001.
I can check my neighbors 2002 tomorrow.

Brad,

You're right! I have an X1 in my garage (BrettX1's), and I never removed the tiebars from my frame when I dismantled it.

I was wondering, I may add it to the M2 when I'm rebuilding. I wonder why the FI models have it but the M2 does not.

My only thoughts was that the X1 and S3 make more power stock than the M2, and thus the extra dampening??? No idea, but it's the only thing I can think of.

i thought about putting the extra tie bar on my M2 but then would it increase or decrease the possibility of the bolt in the head mount shearing like some have had???

just to add, have replaced the tie bar between the heads with an XB one,on the frame hole i found a top hat washer that fitted nicely(XB tie bars use thinner bolts),i then ground off the inverted "U" section on the top mount, made a spacer and drilled and tapped a hole for that bolt, saved close on a pound in weight,i also used metric ti bolts and the top mount bolt went far enough through the tapped hole to put a lock nut on it just to be sure,

Any pics of the extra tie bar? I can't seem to picture it in my head and since I have an '00 M2, I guess my bikes doesn't have it either.

It is connected to the starboard side of the front isolator on the underside of frame.

There is a hole on one side, but no hole on port side of frame for the tiebar mount.

It attaches to the hole on the motor mount above the port side head bolt.

You're bike has both of the mounts just no tie bar.
