I haven't been able to find out much about these, but can anyone tell me if I can use either of these sockets to hook up a battery charger to the bike? Or are they outgoing only? I guess since the bike has to be on to use them, maybe I just answered my own question. |

You cannot! They accessory sockets are ONLY active when the key is on ON and the kill switch is on RUN. I just found out about the kill switch literally 4 minutes ago, I was out screwing with a test light because I thought I blew a fuse. Turns out you can't use the outless with the kill switch on KILL. I think that's silly. Luckily I added a flush battery tender plug, that directly connected to the battery (via a fuse).

Mikef5000, that's a great idea! I may have to do the same. I just got an 09 Uly and I'm still learning about the bike. My previous ride was a beamer and the acc plug was always live. So that's what I charged through. Your installation looks clean. |

Most bikes have a battery tender plug installed by the dealer, location will vary, but usually near the left footpegs. |

Mine has a tender plug installed by the dealer - it's routed to just under the preload adjustment for the rear shock. I'm gonna replace it with a flush mount socket just like mike though. speaking of which mike, my tender fits very tight into the socket, is yours the same way? I assume that once I get around to installing it and using it, the plug will go into and out of the socket easier, but for a while I'm a little worried about having to apply that much pressure to the airflow cover wouldn't be good considering the way it's held into the subframe. I guess you haven't had any issues with yours? |

It is VERY tight. To pull the plug out I have two use one hand to hold the plastic piece in, and the other hand to pull the plug. Hasn't been a problem yet. |

Try putting some electric grease in the plug, should work easier. |

Looks good. I've thought of putting a switch inside those things. I still have mine on the ULY since they look nice and I paid for them. Wonder if they are still available???? |

My 2010 XT had the tender plug factory installed under the seat but I don't have a tender plug that fits it. What I did do is install a Powerlet socket in the same place, now I can plug my heated vest in as well as use my BMW charger to keep the battery up. On a 2010 bike you'll have to buy the plastic inserts that came stock on the 08 & 09 models but works great. |
