I've seen them in person and they do look good. I'd like a set too, but I'm in the same boat you are. I really need to get a winter car as last year was hell in the Magnum, so saving for that has passed the bike on the funding list.

Tigre81 - I negotiated mine into the 09 1125R deal. The dealer (Seminole HD in Sanford FL) FLAT OUT LIED to me and told me they retailed for $799 and they would let me have a "deal" for $599. As you can see in the link they retail for $499. I ended up getting them for $400 in the deal with the bike.

To put salt in the wound, the idiots left the memo from Buell in the box that explained that every Buell dealer received one set FREE as a FACTORY PROMOTION from Buell. Depending upon their Buell inventory level, they even could receive 2 sets for FREE. So don't let them lie to you about anything. Assholes.

Still, I love the look of the black panels on my red 09. I call him "Darth Maul"

Estimating that IF the dealer paid for them they are making AT LEAST 30% (if not 50%) so the cost would be around $350 or less.

Jeff

Yeah, sure, why not?

After all any Buell dealer still selling bikes has signed a 7 yr commitment to support the brand and surely they've made so much money to date paying flooring charges on some bikes since 2008, why not put the screws to them now too. I mean, after all, you are getting a bike at probably near half price what it sold for a month ago so surely you are strapped for cash.

And if you are taking a loan from FAG, errr... Harley's finance wing, nothing wrong there, we all hope Harley fails - right after they help just one more Buell buyer - me.

Of course since we have sold probably a dozen of these side fairing kits via order not carrying them in inventory, (which is probably the case for most dealers by now) I'd give you a price that provides me a reasonable profit and then it is up to you to purchase it or not. Do you go to a grocers meat dept., order a steak cut just right, and then commence to negotiate with the butcher knowing the cost of beef at the local processing plant?

Why would I order something that doesn't provide a profit for my efforts? Would you? Would you expect to stay in business if you would?

I apologize in advance for the altitude but I so tire of all the dripping hypocrisy and disbelief that this type attitude had nothing to do with why Harley dealers have been known to less than kiss ass of a Buell buyer when he walks in to his store thinking like this. Yes, I apologize for exhibiting cognitive dissonance lately but it just seems fitting.

Jammer - see my post above regarding HD dealer "practices". I've been riding for 18+ years and have had at least as many motorcycles from every brand, including "boutique" brands such as MV Agusta and Aprilia. I have NEVER had the terrible treatment I have received at NEARLY ALL HD dealers I've ever been too. The attitude and complete BS sales practices are directly from a USED CAR LOT. There are very few exceptions, such as Ridge Harley Davidson/Buell in Lake Wales FL, where I bought my 2nd of 4 Buells and had one of the best dealership experiences ever. Where did that get them? They went out of business this year. I say good riddance to HD and now I will likely never step foot in a dealership again outside of warranty work for my 1125R. My air-cooled Buells are so simple to work on that they never need to go there.

You're not kidding, I truly do hope HD goes out of business.

Jeff

there was a dealer here on the badweb selling them for 339.99 plus tax and shipping at a reasonable rate he had to be making some profit at least for his time at that price. When H-D took fully over the parts stuff for Buell the price OVER doubled on the parts Erik wanted a affordable AMERICAN sportbike for the people to ride as most know that HD stands for hundreds of dollars , all shiny and chrome ....

I recently went to a Honda dealer to buy maintenance & carb parts for a small twin and was quoted prices way more than similar parts fetch for a Harley or Buell. Oil filter, jets, carb rebuild gasket kit. So much so that the parts I could order through the Harley dealership, I did, and noted that the retail through us was cheaper than the Honda dealer was charging. The Honda air filter was more than buying a K&N on line.

For supposedly being so much more worldly than Harley riders, some here write from a perspective other than the real world with regard to angst towards Harley dealers. Sorry if this example goes against that grain. Get over it.

I don't get it then. For a motorcycle owner of such renown I would think you know how to cultivate relationships to a win-win situation or else you talk to the next up in charge about unsatisfactory service or treatment. For you to have such thorough and complete flogging every time you walked into a dealership simply because you were a Buell customer, it is miracle Buell lasted past 2002 when XBs came out.

I guess there is a bell curve to every thing and you are in that 0.1% to 1.0%, or even 10.0% that just got the worst of it all, everywhere, everytime.

Unless you are claiming that Harley sales people everywhere treat every customer, be they Buell or Harley, the way you have been treated. In that case, how the hell do they sell 325,000 to 270,000 bikes a year for most of this decade? I guess those chrome couch riders have no self esteem to tolerate this treatment for so long, over and over with each couch purchase.

Regarding paying retail for the fairing lowers (because that is what you ultimately paid) how much did you pay on the 1125R, full MSRP or some largely discounted rate?

Oh, that's what I thought. So you are money way ahead.

Most dealers were initially told they only got a shot at getting two of these kits. So following the law of Supply & Demand for something unique and rare likely to be sought after by enthusiasts, it follows the dealer might hold out for top dollar. Until we found that we could order more, we were not even selling the pair that we had.

Jammin - you can cease with the facetious tone towards me. You don't know me so don't f*u*c*k with me - you certainly wouldn't do it in person if we were face to face. Many, many folks on here have had the same experience I have had with HD dealerships and said as much. They keep to their own and obviously do very well selling those types of bikes to their primary constituents ("chrome couch riders" as you put it). I've managed to stay loyal to the brand despite the problems with their sole distribution channel. But as poorly as I've been treated by them I have no interest in supporting them by paying higher prices, like I normally do with my local privately-owned shops to keep them in business because of the superior service they provide. The point is that it is widely acknowledged that one of the biggest problems Buell has faced for years is that Harley dealers and their infamous "attitude" towards Buell customers were impossible to avoid with the few exceptions I noted in my post above. It is a culture clash, pure and simple.

I've been involved in manufacturing and reselling of products through various distribution channels so I understand business models very well. I also understand that customers have a choice to support manufacturers and resellers. If someone wants to offer cost for a product and the seller wants to take it, that's a transaction entirely between those two parties. So when Tigre81 asked what the dealer cost of the side fairing kit was, it was a legitimate question that I attempted to answer and was compelled to share my own personal experience where my HD dealer lied to me. You should take your own advice and get over yourself. Your viewpoint is definitely in the minority from what I've seen on this forum.

To keep this thread somewhat on topic, here is a picture of my "Darth Maul" with the side fairings.

Jeff

Jng,

Your vulgarity is not a surprise. I may not know you but I know your type. Since you proclaim to have never had good service in any Harley dealership, without without Buell, then it appears you do not know me. My tone is in response and proportion to what I get from you.

Where as some here are Buell owners who wax poetic how dealers should run their business and they rail on in these forums how dealers were the down fall of Buell, many a Buell enthusiast apparently have had the complete opposite experience as you and they seldom bother to engage in trying to bring balance to the threads posted here. I find it a little telling that the only Buell dealer who met your requirements for a dealership went out of business.

Dealerships did not set the manufacturing costs for Buells but they do a business plan based on retail margins and expected holding costs of inventory over time as well as ancillary service and parts sales. From the start, too many Buell dealers struggled to make their profit plans. But they started with optimism in support of Buell. Obviously both seller and buyer alike were disappointed.

People talk of wanting a better dealership experience but their actions often do not support that. Continually shopping lowest cost products gets you order takers and WalMart-type service the automotive are known for not the personal experience Harley gave to many people dating back to 1983 when I first bought one.

I've also been involved in manufacturing and product design including international design team leadership. So what? I would not expect anything except a business that has the passion and performance of motorcycles to be relative.

That I am a minority here on this thread can very well be true but I am hardly a minority among Buell enthusiasts. I have nothing to 'get over', no hidden agenda other than to bring balance to this slam-fest aimed at dealerships that some on BWB channel their angst, frustration and anger about an il-fated, poor decision made in a board room by Wandell. I have no doubt some dealerships, or more accurately, some employees at less than stellar dealerships have been poor in their handling of Buell and Buell customers but I take it personal when generalizations are flung around here that I know to be false. I work with a dedicated hard working group who have been largely successful at selling motorcycles, even Buells. We race them with some success too; Bonneville, drags, Pikes Peak road race.

So when I take exception to your tone and accusations I do so from first hand knowledge, no different than you. But in my defense, I do so representing a dealership who has sold something like 60% of the Buells in our state so I think I have a couple more Buell customer interactions to relate to.

Darth Maul is indeed a great looking bike. Good luck with it.
