There appears to be a small puddle of oil behind the rear cylinder near the rear starter. I dont' see any oil leaking from the top end of the engine (rocker box gaskets). Are there other sources of "puddles" that are NOT from the base gasket? |

I'd guess that that starter gasket is bad or the starter has vibrated lose and the oil is coming up from there. Mine has shaken itself lose 3 or 4 times in 8 years. |

I had the puddle you described and it was the rocker tube base gasket but I couldn't tell for the world until I held a mirror behind and a small amount of pinched rubber was visible. I was able to re-seat it without taking everything apart, just the tube base plate. |

+2 on the starter gasket. The old style was paper, they harden and leak. I used to use CopperCoat on them to lengthen their lifetime. Don't have to do that anymore with the new sytle rubberized metal version. MUCH better, no leaks after over 15,000 miles. Brad |

Here is some photos from my base gasket leak....I'd say if the is right around the base gasket that is the issue. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/445035.html |

There doesn't appear to be any oil on the cylinder or where it attaches to the crank case, so it might well be the starter gasket. I'll see if I can take a picture and post it. |

If the starter is the least bit loose you can likely make bubbles at the mating surface with a minor amount of wiggling (I'm strictly speaking of the starter here...keeping in mind who I'm dealing with ). In the same area you have the primary vent line and if you can find a volunteer to blow in it if the starter is loose, or the gasket is bad you can make it bubble (I have a nephew, not the brightest boy on the planet, that is does that for me). |

kinda sounds like you might be going after that m2 upstairs jeremy. could i be right on that assumption. Maybe. There is a leak. Right now I have possession of the bike and am "shaking it down" for any possible problems for the next owner. Maybe that owner is me. Maybe it isn't. I really did enjoy riding it recently. I can't decide if it's harder to wrestle around than my Uly or if the suspension needs some tweeking. I am going to have to take the time to actually figure out how to adjust the suspension. |

just ask court, you have one of the best bikes he had to offer. more than likely the suspension needs tweeked. but your right about the difference between the uly and the m2. it is a toss up. i know it's better than the scg but haven't been able to figure out the firebolt yet. only time will tell with that one. now the blast is a whole nother story. glad to see you get it. and if you can, hang on to it. |

The suspension the M2 is not nearly as refined as the Uly. You can absolutely rail the M2 once you get the suspenders set to fit your style. Rear-sets (I don't have any) would be the perfect compliment to the M2. |

We'll see. There isn't much of a market of good running, rough looking overpriced M2s. For what they have in it, you can get a really nice one for just a few hundred dollars more. I'm hoping the Buell fairy decides it isn't worth messing with and just lets it stay at my house. Who knows. Maybe I'll make some money one of these days and I can just buy it. |
