I finally have some s'miles (~600) on the Torque Hammer exhaust. First impressions: A) Solidly built exhaust B) Finish was very good and consistent (I think a type of ceramic coating). C) Welds all look solid and appear to have good penetration. D) Nice functional design with eye-pleasing features. (Side shrouds make it look nicer while adding support to the mid-pipe). Install: A) A tight fit at the header pipes with no gasketing or clamps (no leaks that I can see/ feel/ hear ) B) Bracket holes needed some enlargement to align easily. C) Supplied hardware (three nuts, one bolt and 6-8 SS washers) enabled easy fit up of the exhaust. D) Washers were used under all bolt heads and as a spacer between the front tab and front mounting boss (three were required, I superglued them together to ease install). Riding impressions: Sound: NIIIIIIICE! Mellow, deep, no bark or crackle without too much volume (It does a great job of scaring away dogs and deer, a very good thing). I can hear the exhaust note at 4,500- 5,500 rpm but it does not invade my environment (MP3's and Sat radio can still be readily heard w/o increasing volume). The general public does know I am around now, without being too obtrusive. Throttle response (Stock ECM, latest flash for an 08’) From idle through redline it is linear with no dips or gaps. From 4,500-6,000 it does feel like it needs some minor changes in the mapping. Around 5,800 rpm this pipe really takes off and pulls HARD!! It’s no slouch, by any means, below 5,800 but it pulls MUCH harder than stock! Normal cruising/ Riding: No hiccups, hesitations, burbling, pops, crackels anywhere accelerating, steady throttle, trailing throttle or under deceleration. The engine does feel smoother and has a real nice resonance point around 5,000 rpm where all is better with the world. Go WFO at that point and this 1125 springs to life. I intend to swap out the ECM tonight or tomorrow. I am anxious to feel, see and, hear the difference. From my “conversations” with Dris and Martin, they feel that their mapping does a lot for drivability and performance (btw both are great right now). I did a 1st gear pass, to 10,000rpm, at Bumpus on Saturday. Ft_bstd made some real nice comments about how it sounded at “full song” that included….. well never mind it was all very complimentary ;+} . Pictures and miles to follow. Time2Work (darn) |

I have a 2008 with the 2009 targeted injectors and a custom map. How would that change things? (CC, I don't expect you to answer that. Easy?) Also, it'd be nice to see what a track day rider or racer thought of the pipe. Small throttle openings in slow corners can be a pain with this bike. I know the guys at Twin do some really nice work. But the price is too steep ATM (especially with euro). I don't know what build cost is, but if they had something more reasonable, I'd try it out. Development is a sunk cost, especially for a racing enterprise. Any positive incremental cash flow should be some incentive to make large volume. Sign me up if you're gonna do bulk! |

You should hear my D&D at full song A lot loud but at WOT it is the best sound I have ever heard. Sorry, just got back from a ride. |

the D&D seems to stick out a bit. Does it reduce full lean cornering? |

Have not been over that far yet. If your knee is out it shouldn't make a difference. |

I have been waiting to hear your impression Neil. I bought this muffler from Pete @ GrandStand Designs and love the sound and feel of it. After seeing Dris talk about his "street" flash, I went and ordered an ecm from him and put it in a little over a week ago. It runs AWESOME!!! I do want to take it to a dyno shop and do both ecm's back to back just to see a difference. Side note - Being a International ecm, I have a check engine light that is looking for a side stand sensor. See what yours does. Brett |

Dris mentioned the SS switch issue from the Euro requirements. Does the CEL clear after each engine start? Does the CEL happen every time you ride? Time2Roll. |

CEL light comes on after each start and stays on. I have a side stand sensor on order right now to deal with that issue since it seams it won't purge otherwise. With his flash program I would think he should be able to disable that function, but it is definitely a issue for us stateside. My 08 bike has always had a stumble issue when running on the O2 sensors cruising, and this program does too, but the throttle tip in - mid range and up programming I think feels spot on. 75 mph cruising has way less vibration in the bars than my original ecm. |

$84.55 + tax. I need to get the latest flash for my stock ecm for dyno and ride comparison purposes. The weather is suppose to be nice this Sunday here in Central California. I'm kind of feeling a Hwy 1 ride up to Monterey coming on. |

I am wondering what I can do to "fool" the ECM in regards to the side stand switch. The old Tuber switches could be just jumpered across and all was fine. The 1125's ECM is smarter but, I do not know if it looks for a change in status (open when the side stand is deployed and closed when it is retracted) of the switch between the key being turned on and the engine starting. I imagine that the wire harness just aft of the side stand pivot is where the switch is plugged in. I could experiment but I would like a little info before I start playing. If the ECM just looks to see if it is closed (contacts made) then I can just run a jumper between the contacts. If it does look for a change in status then it's a little more complicated but still doable. The easiest would be to have the USA flash that doesn't look for the side stand switch. Tomorrow I will swap ECM's and report on the change. Pictures will also be taken and posted on BWB. Anybody got any ideas? TIA Neil S. |

I like mechanical things but am a rank amateur when it comes to electrical circuits. The SSS uses a Hall-effect sensor to monitor side stand position. It has a three pin connector, (1) 5 volt ecm send signal wire (TN/W), (1) ecm ground wire(BK/W), (1) return signal wire (R/W), definitely not a open-close switch. Per the electrical diagnostics manuel: When the side stand is retracted, voltage on the connector [11] terminal 34 (GY) should be approximately 0.6 V. When the side stand is extended, the voltage should jump to approximately 2.6 V. |

I installed the TH mapped ECM today. All I can say is....... WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Yep it really makes one heck of difference over stock ECM with the latest flash. Excellent power, great throttle response, and more power than with the stock ECM. No surging, great pull at rpm's from 2,000 rpm on up. Actually I could idle away from a stop w/o any throttle and then ease on more power. Noticeably smoother through out the rpm range and loads. One complaint, at 55 deg and damp streets, in 2nd gear I get wheel spin instead of wheelies. Guess I'll have to wait for dryer roads tomorrow to really give it a power test. Pictures to follow shortly Neil S. |

Unmounted picts: Let me know what you think. Neil S. BTW, I forgot to mention, if you thought a stock 1125 pulled hard, this afternoon on dry roads, the TH with the right mapping pulls so hard that it feels like time is being compressed, well maybe just space! :+} |

Brent: No flames here. To each their own. It all depends on what you really want. SOmetimes the looks don't match up with the performance. The way this one feels, it could be hot pink and have Zebra stripes as long as it pulls this hard (well maybe hot pink or Zebra stripes not both ;+} ) It pulls hard enough throughout the rev range that I now have to VERY careful about traction. Even at small changes in throttle it pulls very cleanly w/o any surge or hesistation. You can dial in just what you want and there is more than enough for me on the street. Time4Sleep. Neil S. |

Oh I now your telling the truth on how it performs but I just can't get over the implement look. I'm so happy with my tune and stock exhaust I will keep that set up. actually my report from just a tune is about just what yours is. what can be done with a tune is incredible |

Hey Neil.. Yep work next friday and if we aren't busy we might even have to throw that on our new dyno just to see what it pulls. I might be able to convince em to do that as a freebie..but can't qoute me on that. yet. |

I hate to be negative. I know it is supposed to be a great exhaust, but it costs too much to look like it belongs on a Ural. |

That is just bizarre looking off the bike. It's not so bad when you can't see the top or bottom, but wow, off the bike is just too weird. You still have the Rev. A clutch cover??? What time are you going to be in Stl? I wouldn't mind hearing this one as well. (Message edited by d_adams on November 23, 2009) |

Buzzie: Thanks for the offer but the Wife and I are driving the cage to STL. Yep the rev A cover has had it's internals repaired and does not leak anymore. Urals need love too ;+}. All comments are welcome. Of course since you have not heard it or ridden it, all you can do is comment on the looks or $'s/ Time4Work Neil S. |

Eagerly awaiting the results. Looks are subjective, thats for sure. I prefer it in stainless. I'd opt for Dris' tune if it wasn't so pricy. That and the fact that they'd have to tune it for a HPE exhaust - which I'm not sure they have on hand at thier shop. |
