Your right, Buell is not a vintage bike yet. But a team has to look to the future. How much longer is the Buell allowed in the AMA? There is alot of development time needed to stay up front. And why spend that time on a bike you cannot use in a year? As for RMR picking Suzuki. You have to remember that Danny has ridden Suzukis for a long time. He has had a relationship with American Suzuki in the past. THis just might be the best fit. The Buell is a great bike, but I dont see it winning tons of races without Danny on it. Look back at last year. Danny was the only Buell that could run with the Suzuki of Cardenas and the Yamaha of Aquino and Herin. |

Eric may have Cory West who did quite well in the last race of the year. I can't see why running a one year old bike would disqualify you from racing. Now that Buell is no longer building bikes DMG may allow Eric buell to homoligate the parts he wanted to last year for superbike, kinda throw him a bone. |

i am not going to tell people how to run their business. I will say that it just shows how much loyalty goes around now in this corporate world! I wish RMR success but it does not matter since AMA is over for me now unless I see a Buell team and then I will be cheering for them. Too bad mat Mladin is out, as he said he could be 15 seconds faster with a buell considering he won on suzukis. |

I'll not condemn someone for their decisions; but this criticism is tragic & uncalled for. How many of You whiners & criers EVER professionally raced ANYTHING? Glad I have a nice looong weekend starting & I can Ride & forget about these web wussies... |

I agree with Slojon. Lots of people here seem to have turned their collective back on the team that worked hard to put your favorite brand on top of the box. But racing at this level is a business as well as a passion. HD pulled the plug on Buell. Why would a team that is at the top put anymore development time into a bike that will eventually no be allowed to race? Even if the 1125R can be raced for another year or two it will eventually not be allowed. That is not RMR's fault. I am sure that given Richie's relationship with Buell that if given the choice he would rather be racing Buells. It just amazes me how people are now wishing his team ill seeing as how he has been one of the biggest supporters of Buell racing even when the bikes were not the best on the track. |

Not all of us are whiners, and I do race. My point is it takes the team, rider AND bike to win a championship. I also wish RMR nothing but good luck. But I also hope if there is a Buell out there, that the Buell kicks all their @ssses. Again, you do realize this is a Buell site. Right? |

I wish Danny nothing but good. Like most stories . . there is lots more to this than meets the eye. What's done, however, is done. I suspect we'll see some great racing next year. |

I think too many people are thinking that becuase buell is discontinued its dead. there is nothign saying it won't be back in a year or two. Unfortunatelly the one fault as Amercians we have is loyalty. I envy that from Ducati riders. they don't switch, they stick with Ducati in the good and the bad times. |

Buell may not be dead. And it may come back better then ever. When that time comes I am sure Richie would take a look at the bike they have at that time. The thing is you cannot run a team on speculation. Everyone here loves Buell motorcycles, that is a given. But as a race team that has responsibilities to it's sponsors as well as it's rider RMR had to make a choice. Race a bike that has been discontinued or race the bike that nearly won the championship? It is hard to compaire Ducati teams to a Buell team now. If Ducati closed their doors today I doubt Larry Pegram would keep racing their machine. He would look for a bike that will continue to have a factory backing. A bike that will have the possibility of future development. This isn't a question of loyalty. It is a question of keeping a team at the front. |

Well put Anonymus. I guess I just take some exception to people questioning Danny or his teams loyalty. I love the Buell brand and everything that they stood for. But the racing world goes on. I would like nothing other then to see Danny on the 1125R again, but the reality is that the team needs to stay competitive. The Buell is no doubt a great bike but the factory support is now gone. As well, the 1125r's days are numbered in AMA racing. I truely hope that some day Eric can bring this great bike back, but as we sit today that is an outside chance. |

the 1125's day are not numbered they are NOW. 2010 and 2011 should be the years this great bike can really make an impression. The DSB and the Superbike are ready to go and legal in all classes. The ONLY thing missing from the equation at thispoint is contingency money BUT Erik Buell Racing is fully capable to making up what may be lacking in cash by offering a level of support the privateer races has NEVER experienced. Since they have no street bike business to worry about, in fact no other business except Buell racing bikes, folks racing these bikes are going to have the full attention of a team of dedicated, motivated, talented racing support professionals. Parts will be reasonalble priced and ALL the trick stuff will be avaialble. As will all the knowledge and insights this team, with decades of combined racing experience, can bring to bear. If you are racing a Buell in AMA Superbike or DSB I think you are going to be amazed by what is on offer. As for bringing this bike back as a street bike, why? Erik's next design will be better anyway |

I am sorry to say it because I don't want to sound like a Buell hater. As far as racing in the top level of the sport unless Erik can bring a bike to the street and keep Buells legal in AMA for many years to come its days are numbered. I can see a few privateers running it for the next year or two, but without long term eligibility it will be hard to keep teams on the Buell. I love the bikes that Erik has made. I love the vision and the passion that he has brought to the motorcycle game. But as far as racing in the AMA goes it would be hard to justify pouring money and time in a bike only to turn around and start over again in a year or two. I really hope that Erik Buell Racing can figure out a way to keep the Buells in the AMA. I will always cheer for a Buell team over a big 4 team (with the exception of RMR). I just try to look at this without rose colored glasses. At least the RMR switch anyway. |

Backcountryme, it is certainly possible that your proposed view of the future is correct given only the current state of things today. However, we must also factor that the state of things today are only a certainty for today. The state may change tomorrow (figuratively). Assuming we've got at least a good 1-2 years on the current 1125 platform, then we've also got 1-2 years of planning and executing on "the next steps" for Erik Buell, his crew, and his vision. |

Th e1125 is eligible and will be competitive in AMA superbike for a few years. It is years ahead of the competition in many ways. And if you think Erik is gonna spend his golden years selling race parts you are out of your mind. He has plans. I don't know what they are but I know he has them. He had them back in '82 when I met him and he certainly has them now. You know he was selling race parts back then to help those plans along. |

Ponti I totally agree with you. Things could change tomorrow. And Erik is forward thinking enough and has enough passion that anything can and most likely will happen. I do hope that in a year or two we will see something great come out of all of this. |

Every bike running this season will be completely obsolete in 5 years, including the 1125R. Heck, the Aprilla was obsolete *last* season |

reepicheep - you are correct, but the big difference is that no other bike in the field is in the same situation buell is in. it is a shame that danny will be on something else, he is a really talented rider. but there are some other good riders on buells - knapp and higbee, so we'll see what happens. im hoping for good things! |

its a shame that danny will be on a bike that won't give him the opportunity to retain the title. What is even more sad is that a suzuki will be wearing the title that the BUELL bike won. There is no reason why RMR could not have stayed with Buell!! this are just excuses. |

guys, slaughter & slojon [& perhaps some others here] deeply understand that a racebike is a TOOL - not a 'Buell' or a 'Ducati' or a 'Gixxer' racers will race whatever's competitive, affordable & reliable enough to at least offer the illusion of being able to participate professionally Erik tried bucking the prevailing AMA bikes with his Barton/RW750 - years before that F1 season, he'd chosen the Aermacchi[Villa]/H-D RR250 POS that's twice - zero parts, no reliability, next-to-no tech support jump to 2010 - Erik's simply following the 70s Yamaha TA/TZ marketing model which dominated AMA roadracing for decades [decades ago....] - proddy racebikes with at-track parts & tech support as long as parts are available, selected machines are the hot ticket in most every classification many enthusiasts don't yet realize that Blasts & Blast-based specials have essentially displaced pushrod Brit-bikes off the podium at most competitive events, for example who knows? - now; soon; for a while - it just might be the 1125r, the 1125RR, & derivatives manufactured & serviced & supported by EBR

I am with you Indy!! But I will have to cheer for Danny. He seems like a good guy. Him and Barney both talked to my son and I at Mid-Ohio and we didn't even have too start the conversation. It probably helped I was wearing a Buell Racing shirt! |

I will have to agree that Danny is a great guy, but to be honest next to the Buell the Yamaha R6 were the bikes to beat. If there are no buells it will be sad to see Danny loose the title and then all the questions will come. "We should have stayed with Buell" Don't fix it when its not broken. thsi no different then trying to put Stoner on a Japp bike. Stoner would not win. Some guys were meant to ride V twins and some Inlines |
