I'd be interested in learning more about the turnouts, notably if it affects performance. |

So are they mild steel or aluminum? Description confused me. |

They are designed to deflect exhaust gases away from the rear parts, not for performance! The tips pictured are painted mild steel. My bike was used as the guinea pig on the first set, looked and worked great so I purchased them. I DO NOT MAKE THE TIPS! |

Tbenson, did you notice the bike any bit louder afterwards? I would think that the factory dumping spot not only makes my wheel dirty, but also dampens the exhaust note a bit. What did you think after putting these on? Mike |

I personally think the exhaust note is a little more pronounced in the way of hearing more of the V-Twin sound, but on the long ride there and home I decided to take my airbox cover off so that was making the bike sound louder too. Yes I believe it is more noticeable with a better sound to the exhaust, just my opinion though! By no means is it compared to the levels of the aftermarket slip-on cans or full race systems offered, which you already knew that though! I was not looking for a sound change, I was just trying to protect long term damage to the rear parts, the better sound was just a bonus! Troy |

That's exactly what I wanted - Less mess, and I don't want a loud exhaust. Been there, done that! I like what d_man is doing, but until I can do without my can for awhile, I wouldn't mind just having the exhaust turning out if it looks nice. $85 isn't cheap, but since I can't do it myself ... |

Mine are tapped on very snug with no movement in over 200 miles. I was going to use a metal seizing compound on mine, but it was not necessary for the application on my bike, once lightly tapped on they are fixed in place. I suppose if I wanted, I could tap them back off, but I don't see the need to for now! Again, this was the application of the first set on my bike, I do not know what the fabricator is suggesting and/or recommending for the rest of the installs. My application was very smooth and simple, about ten minutes to install after the paint dried for me. The back brake line bracket was loosened and pushed aside for the top pipe, pipe installed, clamp tightened back up, pipe tapped on until tight, bottom pipe slipped on, then tapped on until tight, finished! |

I too cannot do this myself, and after seeing the entire process involved (supplies, time, angles, lengths etc. etc.) to make these, I think the cost is not that bad? This build might come easy to others, but I am not that person! One might think this is simple (as I initially did) but it is more involved than what it seems. Kudos to all of you attempting upgrades of this nature and the rest of the accessories you are fabricating and building on your own!!! The cost of the tips to me was minimal, compared to the cost of the parts that the tips help prevent damage to, from exhaust gases and heat, just my thoughts though! |

Tbenson how well do they do at keeping the exhaust from building up on the swing arm and rear wheel? |

Tight mandrel bent header tubing isnt cheap. I think there very well fairly priced if you email me & take ebay out of it they will probably be ten bucks less. These are not just bends you can get at a local muffler shop. These are cnc bends$$If they were muffler bends they would be 6$ and would be 7"inches long .They are 4 1/4 long at the top tube 3 at the bottom .Tight bends. |

ok i will ask..it is just a pipe that is bent and slash cut. I work for an EXHAUST company. WE MAKE EXHAUST, cnc bends? expensive? not even close. The bigger issue is demand and lead time. they may not want to make a small run item. i will talk to my boss and see what he says. There is NO way these cost more than $10 to make. Trust me, I do it for a living(i am one of the company salesman), I know what these things cost. even in stainless they are not gonna be more than $20 to make in qty fyi, it costs $24 to make a 93-99 jetta muffler...complete can and pipes for comparison (a welded assembly) these "tips" are smaller diameter tube and would be stupid cheap (Message edited by nickg on November 23, 2009) |

If ya wanna go cheap, I'm betting a length of this stuff hose clamped to the outlets would work just dandy. Motorcycles, like women, should be about how the perform, not how they look. That being said, the $85 parts look much MUCH better, and still perform just as well. |
