Does anyone make a taller flyscreen for the CR? I need a little more wind protection. Also need some brighter headlights. |

I haven't seen one yet, but checkout http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl they have a bunch of cool stuff for our 1125's. as for HID's i just installed my DDM Tuning 55w pair for my 25r. Bike is in the shop today getting 1st service done, so can't wait to see what it's like at night! Here's a pic to compare: just left headlight (regular 35w) left still OEM 35w, right is 55w HID (3k color) HTH! GL! |

Yeah - You still have the 50w ones Froggy? DDMtuning.com iirc (not a sponsor...) http://www.ddmtuning.com/products/DDM_Slim_Ballast _HID_Kit_35W_or_55W-101-85.html Holy Hell - just saw they are on sale right now... bummer. only 60$ for the 55w kit like mine. Mine was 80 iirc. anyway - need to pull the fairing and clean up some wires, but otherwise i'm very happy with the output of these! 110w of HID goodness...

Also - the CR's only have one low right? get another local rider to split the "kit" with you and save $! I'm not going to do high beams - while the slim digital ballast is "fast" it's not instant like the OEM 35w bulbs. So leaving those in for foreseeable future. HTH - GL! |

More wind protection and brighter lights ... You should check out the R model Sorry, couldn't resist! Looks like the beer bottle sits perfectly on top of the fuel cap when the bike is upright. There, I learned something useful today ... Mike (Message edited by milleniumx1 on November 19, 2009) |

I know you couldn't resist but if I get an R it's going to be my racebike. If I can find a chain conversion kit |

Mike - Glad someone pointed out the better windscreen of the R... hehehe. Though i wouldn't mind the CR gearing... I didn't realize the CR had a different bulb - h7 vs our H8's. Good to know. Also - the bottle is actually sitting in the front intake, not on the gas cap. Perfect spot for it... When it's cold out and doesn't drip water down intake. |

Laminar lip makes an extended windscreen for XB's. I called them about an extnded wind screen for th CR and they said they would be glad to make one, but someone would have to bring their bike in to their factory in CA. to mold it up. I live in FL so I can't. Anyone, anyone? |

Ilmberger makes carbon fiber screen, which is a bit taller, but it's expensive at $308 http://www.diesel-moto.com/newproducts/ilmberger-c arbonparts/1125r-cr/carbon-windscreen-1125cr.html |

I've had good experiences with Sylvania Silverstars in my cars. A pair of H7s shouldn't run you more than $30 or so. |

Vosnick - Didn't you title this "1125 CR taller flyscreen and HID headleaghts" ??? Um... HID's require a kit. And believe it or not - are brighter than the Sylvania Silverstars, for not much more. Do the low beams, split the "kit (2 bulbs/ballasts)" with another CR rider, and you will have twice (ok 4-5x) the light for a few bucks more (since you have to pay shipping). So do you want HID's or do you want blue tinted halogens? Either way - GL!} |

and don't be fooled by the 'xenon HID' light BULBS. if it doesn't have a ballast then it's not really HID. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-intensity_discha rge_lamp#High-intensity_discharge_lamps silverstars are an upgrade, but a small one. so you might as well go all out and get some bang for your buck IMHO |

Hey Sl33py, just curious, how much heat these HID kits generate compared to the standard halogen bulb? I ordered the DDM kit, and I'm hoping not to encounter any heat-related issues within the CR headlight housing. Also, do these things really take enough time to come to full brightness to warrant sticking with a halogen for the high beam? The last thing I want is to flip a switch looking for additional lighting and momentarily get less. In theory I would prefer HID for both high and low beams, but it sounds like that may not be the best option in practice. |

from what i understand (have yet to install the HID) it will dammage the ballast/bulb if you use it like the flash to pass switch. and it won't put out much light either |

So is this what I'm looking for to replace the low beams on a CR? DDM 35W & 55W Single Motorcycle HID System Product ID: BIKESINGLEH7-5000K Wattage: 35W Bulb Type: H7 Bulb Color: 5000K Several people mentioned buying 2 and splitting the kit, but they appear to sell just one light kits now?? You can buy a single bulb kit from DDM. No need to split anything. Get hte 55w kit - I have the 35w in my car and I'll be upgrading to the 55w. For the nominal difference in price it makes no sense not to. The HIDs don't take long to heat up. I start my car, turn onp the lights, and by the time my seatbelt is on they're up to temp. That works fine for the low beams, but not ideal for the highs. It's not good for the ballast or ignitor to keep turning them on and off like a high beam requires. You won't get any less light when you turn on the highs, but you'll wait a couple seconds until they're really bright enough to make a difference. Once they're on, they're good to go, though. So if you're driving down a country road with them on, turn them off for a passing car, and then turn them back on, they'll be at full power pretty much instantly. DDM offers a lifetime warranty on their HID kits, so if you can deal with the initial warm up of the highs, you'd still be covered if something were to break. |

HID kits put out MUCH less heat than halogen bulbs, even the 55W kits. The problem is when you swap another HID kit into a headlight that was designed for an OEM HID system, which burns cooler still compared to "plug and play" HID kits. Any halogen headlight should be fine ... the only exception being projector headlights (like on XB-R bikes) because they have much less air space inside the fixture to dissipate the heat (and the stock H3 bulbs for XB-Rs don't put off that much heat anyway). |

Okay, I just order the "single" kit. 55w in 6000k. Can someone point me in the direction of some install tips? I'm not a big fan of elctrical work, so the simpler, the better. Thanks!!! |

I don't see it on their site anymore.
quote:how much heat these HID kits generate compared to the standard halogen bulb?
The 55w kit puts out less heat than a 55w halogen bulb. The 35w kit is cooler but lower in output. The 35w kit still makes a standard halogen bulb look like it wasn't even on.
quote:Also, do these things really take enough time to come to full brightness to warrant sticking with a halogen for the high beam?
No, when the unit is cold, they take only seconds to get usable light, and about 10 seconds for peak output. When the unit is warm, it can be flashed instantly. On my car I have Silverstars in the high beam, while HID on the lows due to the high beam being a low voltage daytime running light. When I flip on the high beams and turn off the lows, I have less light output. When I have the lows on and then also turn on the highs, there is no difference, as the HID low beams drown it out.
quote:from what i understand (have yet to install the HID) it will dammage the ballast/bulb if you use it like the flash to pass switch. and it won't put out much light either
It won't "damage" anything. The initial warmup is what does the most "harm" to the HID system. When the bulbs are fully warmed up, you can flash all you want.

You have 55w bulbs already in the CR.
