The bike is an '08 1125r.

I looked through the owners manual and cant find how to make the LCD screen default to coolant temp and stay at that display when the bike is turned on. It displays the temp (cold) for a few seconds and then goes to average fuel mileage. The owners manual said it would show the last selected display I think. I always leave it at coolant temp and it goes back to average fuel mileage.

That behavior changed with an update to the instrument cluster.

Mine always goes back to the gear indicator and air temp at the intake. Wish there was a way to change it to show the gear and instant fuel mileage instead.

The VERY EARLY 08 clusters would stay where you left them.

Later 08 and 09 clusters don't remember.

My old one used to stay. This new '09 cluster doesn't. I don't give a crap because I like it better than the '08. Win!

The IC is currently the way it is due to regulatory issues. Coolant temp is considered a guage and thus must have the proper icon (the little thermometer). Since the instrument cluster doesn't have that icon, it is not allowed to default to that screen. Doesn't make much sense, but thats the way it had to be in order to pass regs.

my 09 guage defaults to ambient/gear on startup on the track bike. would like to have it set on ct/gear. with ct is bat volt. not switchable: (
my 08 cluster stays where you put it. i like that: )

Not trying to be an ass, but that's a load of horseshit for two reasons:

1 - My screen defaults to the ambient temp/gear indicator screen, not the coolant temp/batt voltage screen.

2 - The instrument cluster does have a little thermometer warning light, so the required icon is there.

Any screen that is the default when starting up, whether set that way by the user or the manufacturer is considered a gauge and must comply with the proper regulations.

1-The air temp and gear don't have a standardized icon, so they can default to that screen without issue.

2-The coolant temp screen shows CT, not a thermometer.
