Just a heads up but if you financed your bike through Harley Financial and plan on paying online there is a $6 fee to do this per payment!! What a joke! The shaddy thing is they don't tell you about it until you are on the last screen about to click authorize payment. Wish they would have not wasted my time and just told me up front 20 mins prior to me digging up my account paper work and plugging it in! Now they are getting a check in the mail which will cost them a person to open, another person to sort, and another to deposit. LOL never seen anything like this but hey if they want it that way no problem! No wonder these clowns are doing so bad! I also have free online bill payer through my credit union but I would rather have them suffer this way! Hilarious.. |

ya you get them back by writing out a check, signing it, getting a stamp for it, getting an envelope for it, and then making a trip to mail it. That'll teach them! |

Do what I do. I have auto/electronic payment set up for my bike payment through my bank (bank of america). No fees thru BoA, and since the money is just "showing up" at HD they don't charge a fee either. Win-win. |

Yeah, who mails checks anymore? Online bill pay FTW. They pretty much all charge it you go to their site to pay online or pay by phone. But using bill pay with your bank is free, and way more convienient because you can pay all bills in 1 place. |

I just think I already PAID my finance fee when I got my loan, why should it cost me MORE to make my PAYMENT. Plus it's a 12$ fee for a single payment.( P.S., your payment is not marked 'late' 'till 2 weeks past due date. This per HDFSI.) I tried to pay at my dealer, no go. They get a check from me. Also to Chessm, I save $ buying a stamp and driving to the PO on my 1125R. |

They already send the envelope to mail it in with the address already on it. All I gotta do is write the check, pop a stamp on it and walk 20 feet to my mailbox! (takes all of 60 seconds) I'm also not the one receiving hundreds of thousands of these payments a per month either that need to pay hundreds of workers to process them. Makes good business sense to push for online bill pay but they would rather not! Yea my credit union offers free bill pay but I like this method for now. Most companies simplify things not complicate it... to each there own. Since there doing all the work mailing the statement with enclosed envelope doesn't take me much more work to just pop a check in there with a stamp! If you set up scheduled payments there is no fee, unless that has changed too? The fees will more than likely raise too, in 2007 it was $3, and it raised to $6 in 2008. |

If you setup a DIRECTPAY account, you are not charged per payment. DIRECTPAY is *different* from the HDFSI account. With DIRECTPAY you have to setup a recurring transaction of at least 2 payments. You can change the amount or frequency at anytime. |

Reminds me of those idiotic offers to "Print your ticket at home." Except when you do that, you find out that you are paying EXTRA to use YOUR paper and YOUR ink to print that ticket. WTF?? |

I didn't see that option. But I guess whats the difference between one payment and setting up two payments at a time to merit a $6 charge? My post was merly a heads up for those who like to wait till the last second to pay as they might be angry by the convenice fee since its not told up front. |

I was wondering if they charge for automatic deduction from your account, or if it is just when you pay by yourself? |

These guys are a bunch of loan sharks, for sure. I got my FIRST invoice in the mail either today or yesterday, hard to know for sure because the envelopes were not post marked, and I last checked my mail on Monday. This morning, they lit up my phone asking me to verify a bunch of personal information. "Hey, listen, you called me. I can't be sure you are actually HD. Your caller ID din't come through and I can't verify you. I'm not giving you my address and SSN." "Well, it would be illegal for me to have said I was HD and not be." "Yes, I realize that, but the person who is trying to steal my personal information *wouldn't* care about that law, now would they? So, why don't you give me a call back number and I'll call you right back so I know who I'm talking to." "I'm in a queue system, I can't do that." "Ok, you tell ME some data, and then we can talk." "I need your SSN first." "Yea, I bet you do. Hey, what bike did I just buy and what's the VIN?" She gets it right -- ok we can move on. "We are calling to remind your payment was due on the 15th and is presently 3 days late. BTW, this call may be recorded, etc." "Huh?" "Oh yea, your payment was due on the 15th. " "OK, well, I haven't received any documentation yet, so why don't you tell me where to send a check and I'll drop one in the mail." "Now that you are notified that your payment is overdue, you might face a late charge unless you pay immeadiately." "Listen, you can't notify me that I'm late for the first time and apply a late fee in the same call. I'm happy to pay the balance due promptly, but you DO need to notify me. do you take a credit card?" (For the masses, my monthly payment is $80, so we aren't talking about much money here.) "We charge a $12 convenience fee to pay presently." "Hey, listen, I'm not going to pay a 15% premium on my payment. I'll just put a check in the mail." "Well, you might face a late fee for that if it takes too long." "I'll take that bet. What's your payment addy and what's my account number?" Mind you, all this happened BEFORE I got the invoice. I went to my PO box at noon today and there it was -- the first notification of payment due, coyly without ANY postmark. I just set up an autopay in my bank, and hopefully I never hear from these jerk offs again. I guess they are getting stiffed a lot, because they pretty much started the conversation with "you are in the wrong" and it was downhill from there. |

I realize that not everyone can pay cash for a bike, but this is why I don't finance "toys". One check (or cash), one time. Done. Not worth the aggravation. I don't have to make payments when it's snowing out and I can't ride and I don't have to worry about where the $ is coming from next month. When everyone was quoting their "OTD" prices, how many of you included your loan interest amount on top of the "OTD" price? Not meaning to turn this into a "morality/political" thread, but if more people paid cash for more of the stuff they have instead of financing it, this country would be in much better shape. Certain items, such as housing are understandably financed. (Now back to your regularly scheduled discussion) |

Toona, Don't lecture me about paying cash. My wife and I live well within our means! It just so happens we just bought a house (25% down)and paid for wedding (paid cash) so we didn't have the enough in our market accounts to pay cash for a bike. Alot of us didn't think Buell was going out of business and were not prepared (meaning didn't save) for this purchase. I had a one time shot at buying a new Buell and did. I have never bought any vehicle new in my entire life because frankly I don't want to spend the inflated prices and I like to trade up to often. But when Buell was announcing $5k rebates on new bikes for a used price it was a no brainer! There is nothing wrong with financing a bike as long as you are smart about. Hell the financing rates are great! My last bike (paid cash) is paid for and all we have is a mortgage payment (cars paid off) so in our mind $6k purchase was not out of line. Don't know if you were directing your post at me but rant off.. |

> how many of you included your loan interest amount on top of the "OTD" price? The entirety of my finance and loan origination charges were something like $180. I figured for that little amount, I'd hang on to my 2800 I financed |

Ha, I did but on my used XB9R. All the low interest credit card offers for 6 or 9 months, etc? I just bounced them around for a year until I got a chance to drop all my debts into a permanent 2.9% Play the game, play to win. |

Wow... I just reread my post and I didn't see ANY NAMES, so no, my post wasn't directed at you, OR ANYONE ELSE for that matter. Just stating a fact. While I appreciate your advance warning of the $6/month processing fee (an extra $288 just in processing fees on a 48 month loan), I just found it funny (in my own twisted way of thinking) that someone would comment about it after HD lets whoever take HD's Buell home and only promises to make monthly payments until it's paid off. I, in no way, am saying that you won't or can't make the payments, but stated a point that there are a lot of folks in America that can't and didn't make the payments on "stuff" they "had to have", but couldn't afford. Hell the financing rates are great! I agree, mine was 0% |

Well, Toona, you managed to turn it into a moral/political thread. How blessed you are that you manage money so well. And, yes, easy credit and non-payment has put many businesses into bankruptcy besides HD. And "make it do, make it last, do without" is the best practice. But we weren't talking about that. We were talking about a "hidden charge". We were talking about ways to get around that or avoid it. We were warning others that it was there. Really, if you paid cash, then you did it the best way, good for you, but none of this affects you. |

but none of this affects you. Guess I'll go crawl back under my rock and turn my computer in...... whatever..... and yes, I am blessed. I bust my butt day in and day out to be able to pay for my stuff. Not saying that the rest of you don't also. My original comment was aimed at all the extra unexpected fees that are "imposed" on someone that finances, that's all. Which I believe was the purpose of this thread. Heaven forbid if you are late on a payment, you wanna talk about extra imposed fees.... Guess I don't follow today's politically correct mindset very well do I? Sometimes the truth hurts. Sometimes people learn from other peoples mistakes (or their own in my case), I know I have and that's why I replied the way I did. |

Not supporting the bank, just playing devils advocate...the fee is because they have to "go out and get" your money, instead of just having it come to them. Do it through your bank, like I do...no fee, because all HDFS has to do is sit there and open an envelope. I have to read the back of a PNSA (promissory note / security agreement) when I get back to work after vacation...but I'd bet it's there on the papers you (we) signed when the bike was purchased. |

I also have not receive anything from HD regarding my loan and payment is supposed to be due on Sunday. Really poor management. It was easier (and cheaper) just to put the damn thing on my credit card. At least then I knew I would get a bill before it was due. And I could pay online. |

finances with the 10 percent down ...by the time I make all my payments and down payment included I will have paid less than 7500 I am happy with that considering a new stator is almost 800 and a new pulley is over a grand...not counting all the kick ass parts on my beloved 1125

Why don't you guys just refinance with some other lender? I wouldn't be giving any money to HD right now. Hell, its the finance arm that got them in the trouble they are in and gave them an excuse to dump Buell! |

Toona, The point of this thread was to warn other people about the imposed fee when making online payments. I believe I made that clear on my FIRST post regarding this thread. No where did it say Toona what's your opinion on financing a bike? Some people always have a comment for everything... wow! |

If you setup the payments to be Re-occuring...there's no fee.. I just made my first payment, and the amount withdrawn is the monthly payment, plus i just called them. if you make payments ONE at a TIME, then yes there's a fee of 6.00 and if you pay over the phone its 12.00. Just setup re-occuring payments and its free..... |

With that direct pay you can set it up to take out weekly also. I make about a payment and a half, divided weekly automatically taken out every Friday morning. I'll pay it off early and I never really miss the money cuz I never see it. |
