I'm prepping for the the track. I usually pull the fuse(s) for the lights. So I did that to the 1125R and they still work head and brake lites. ??? Is it supposed to be like that? |

so the fuse is worthless? How can I kill the lights? Is there a simpler way than unplugging 7 bulbs from the sockets? |

Ok I tried it on both my CR and R. I pulled the headlight fuse and the headlights turned off. Only thing staying lit was the little position lights, they are on a fused labeled "AUX". |

It might be the position lights I see on under the black gaffers tape that now covers the headlights. I pulled the "AUX" and the light(s) still work. ??? I pulled the "ACC" and the lights no worky. What else is on the ACC circuit? |

The fuse for the lights can be pulled, with the motor running OK. If you pull the fuse before starting, the START relay is disabled. No start. If the lights stayed on, it's the wrong fuse. Z |

If you trace the headlight wiring back from the lights themselves toward the frame, the six wires will merge into one, and go to a single connector. You can unplug that one connector and all your forward lighting goes out. Taillight's easy, remove 2 screws, pull lens, pull bulb, reinstall lens and screws. |

So wait a minute. I bought a sports bike designed by a road racer and I have to pull bulbs to take it to the track?!? I looked in my owner's manual and it shows that fuse #5 is "Lights". That doesn't do it? KeS |

Read the above, if you pull the light fuse the bike wont start, its a safety. I pulled the fuse and my lights went out, I didn't attempt to start it. |

I'm damned if I'm going to screw around at the track plugging and unplugging fuses every time I have to start the bike. I guess I'll go figure out what has to be done myself. Unbelievable. Safety feature my ass. KeS (Message edited by kevin_stevens on November 16, 2009) |

There is nothing to figure out, just pull the headlight connector. |

when you pull the mirrors off it is only 2 more screws to get to the headlight connector. i have been using zipties through the mirror holes to hold the fairing on for the track. i also pull the passenger peg brackets and the complete taillight assembly, turn signal and plate holder. a set of darkhorse axle sliders front and rear and off you go. have fun! tim |

Looks like ya need to buy an RR, or pop a pair of switches on your STREETBIKE ... |

Yes, you bought a sportbike (note it doesn't say RACEbike) from an ex-racer...who is bound by federal law and statutes to make sure the bike is "street legal" in all 50 states, including lighting systems. That said...if you don't want to unplug the forward lighting harness for a track trip (because "click-pull" is a LOT of work, I know)...find the ground wire for the headlight harness, it's black. Cut it. Splice in a wire from each side to a toggle switch somewhere easy to get to. Switch off, no ground, no lights. Switch on, lights work, OK for street use. "Problem" solved. |

I faced this issue when I took my 1125R to the track for the first time. The night before, I removed mirrors, pulled the fuse for the lights and taped everything up. I thought I was good to go. The next morning, at the track, the bike wouldn't start. I replaced the fuse for the lights and she cranked right up. So then I just put some black duct tape over the blue painters tape on the headlights and everything passed tech. |

Just curious, why do you guys disable the lights? Does the heat cause an issue with the tape? |

Because the track organizers typically require it. But yes, heat does often cause tape over the headlights to be hard to remove. For those who are saying this isn't an RR, it's a streetbike - well, yes. It's very definitely a sportbike, and sportbikes are quite commonly taken to trackdays. The whole undercurrent of "you're using the bike for something it's not intended for" is not accurate. And every bike I've owned could have the headlights and tail lights disabled by simply pulling fuses - including such marginal track bikes as my K1200RS and Moto Guzzi V11. It *is* unusual, and it *is* (apparently) a PITA. KeS |

I agree Kevin. It is a pita. However, I had no issues with the lights baking the blue painters tape. It pulled right off. I would not put duct tape directly on the lenses as I could imagine the duct tape glue might cook a little easier. Just a guess though. Anyway, painters tape, then black duct tape and you're good to go. |

I just use painters tape... and call it a day. Blue stuff pops right off, headlights still work fine. |
