"Your Dyno run shows 45RWHP which with a muffler probably equate to 40-42hp."

But, if I were setting up the motor for 6500rpm instead, I would've done several things differently.

"However I expect the Torque will come up a bit with a muffler as well."

I'm not nearly so sure. These cams and exhaust are working together. You're talking about moving them apart. If the exhaust is yanking at say 4000rpm but the intake is closing too late at 4000rpm and allowing some of the charge to be pushed back, you may well end up with less cylinder fill at that point. And cylinder fill is what the torque curve is showing you.

"I also realize that your system is a bit differant than the "Nallin Kit" that Sport Twin is selling"

Same piston & cylinder. We did raise compression by doing a bunch of milling, and it's got lots of cam, and of course stage 2 head work.

Saro: oh, I know how to solve the problem, Zipper's sells just what I need. I just don't care, what this motor does below 6000rpm isn't particularly important.

aaron what do you think about the dyna rev limiters? i found one in the denniskirk online catalog (bored during work) its a drl3000. there is also a duel stage limiter. would there be an advantage to that? this says it will work with any engine but i'm curious if it will work with the single. also found a digital tach (that will work with singles) that i should be able to stash nicely now that i have my new fairing.

I haven't used any stand-alone limiters so I have nothing to offer there.

It may allow you to lower the limit. I'll about guarantee you that it won't raise the limit over stock, though. The Blast's module shuts it down at 6500rpm, no external device is going to prevent that.

yeah i started thinking about that last night and relized that it wasn't an indpendant limiter on the blast. i'm sure i will have pleanty of time at work to find something that will work.

Blast drag bars
I was on the Pingel web site (after finally finding one that doesn't jump to an unavailable ad page) and noticed the above wheelie bars under the what's new category. Just thought I'd give you all something to think about. From their page:
"The Pingel Bolt-On Drag Bracer Bars are now available for the Buell Blast. This kit
was designed specifically for the AHDRA Junior Drag Race Program. "

Last night on Speedvision they talked about Team HD being suspended for using an oversize engine at the Daytona Dirt Track, and they showed the Blast powered bike while the reporter spoke, implying that this was the illegal bike. However, this was not the bike that was caught cheating:

Tigcraft may have the bike to beat in anything where a single can race. I for one would love to take one to a nice tight twisty road

As promised here's a small sample of the "detail pics"

500RengineR

Keihin HCR41 carb , hand made exhaust ,using damaged pipes to come up with this configuration and a universal fit internal disc "Trapp". A low version of this will be built too .

500RfootrestR

Hademade footrest assy. using modified XL pedal ,X1 master cylinder , this is the "high mount version" for turning left or right , as used for 24 hour endurance ice racing. A low mount version for just turning left is at the ready when needed.

pushrodplate

Here's what is done to accomodate pushrod tubes when "Metal is removed" ,.....( heads decked and other related tricks )

More later

The velocity stack on that carb was hand made too as are many other parts , it's the way you gotta build a bike like this. A chain tensioner is in the works and the rear brake is being completed soon.

The intake manifold was built to accomodate the HCR carb which had a downward kinda droop to it with the stock manifold in place.

This is a modified HD19" hub commonly found on XL's and Superglides , it's been lightened and the bearing bores have been machined to accept metric bearings (6204) as used with Buell front wheels and the M2 forks used on this chassis ( C&J Racing ), doing it this way allows me to use readily available stuff like brake rotors , sprockets etc. , the rear hub is off of a Heritage and is as delivered , the swingarm allows the use of a 3/4" axle if you want by boring out the axle adjustor blocks from the 17mm size that is provided with the chassis kit.

Cool article in H-D Enthusiast Magazine on the H-D race team with a few shots of Blast-based XR500 dirt trackers. It looks like they moved the PCV valve location from the intake side of the rockerbox to the middle of the rockerbox on the race bikes, I wonder why. I'd really like to find out the mods that were done to those engines!

In Roadracing World, for finishes at Willow Springs(WSMC) shows a Blast racing in the 500cc Single class. At least someone is racing em!

Hoser, how's the race bike?

James:

Not a great deal of progress , as I have been burried in other work lately . The rear brake is nearly done , and the bike will be coming apart for paint and cosmetic details after it gets strapped to the dyno to tune this version of engine mods. The other engine was sneaking up on 50 hp with a stock carb and a cheesy fishtail drag pipe off a softail , now it's got a Keihin FCR 41 mm carb and Supertrapp IDS slipped on to a header with the correct length for the cams being used. I expect to see 50 hp , ...... maybe a little bit more.

I've noticed alot of people trying to bypass the Blasts 6500 limiter. I also noticed (today) that Harley sells a programable ignition for the Blast! It is programable to 100 RPM increments, costs $259.95 and is part #32942-02 for some reason it doesn't come up under the Blast! page though, found it hidden at the bottom of the Pro page. I think I'll be getting one of these real soon as I am currently shifting at the limiter. Let me know if any of this helps. C-Ya!

Thomas if you do go with the ignition DO NOT RAISE the rev limiter. Let me say one more time DO NOT RAISE THE REV LIMITER. If you do your just looking for troble. The stock valve springs are only good to 6500 rpms. I hope this helps.

I'd like to clarify something WRT the Screamin Eagle ignition... I don't believe it's programmable. It IS adjustable, but you can't alter the curves beyond simple slope adjustments and/or choosing from a selection of pre-programmed curves. A programmable ignition would allow you to plot the whole curve.

I'm not positive about this BUT I see no software or cables to program the SE unit.

I don't know what the real world consequences of this would be but it's probably worth noting.

Saro,

The ignition module is set up to be programed and has the port right there in front. You are correct though, no software or cables that I know off. God I hate to be teased.

Two pictures in the picture section - some tracks also require a belly pan simular to whats on the Crossroads bike. Rearsets a must, works rear shock and forks set up - might have to have the forks shop done,Clip-ons or Clubmans, tape/cover/remove lights, usual eng. mod.s, Have fun - though I have yet to hear of a Blast winning any contests (other than Battletraxs and timed motorcycle rallies)but anything is possible - including a skilled rider taking a Blast to a few wins - I'm talking pavement of course Dirts a different story all together Got Thump?! I'm thinking of the future. Me and the Wonderful Wife talked and if things work out I might be getting a Firebolt next year, and again if things work out I might be looking at taking classes and setting the Blast up for the track and maybe to race with. We'll see. I've got a lot to learn and I plan on taking it slow. Hey, if I do this I'll Nallinize the Hell out of it, do the right thing, make Blast go ZOOOOOOM. Lotta If's though.

OK... now I'm thinking.

I got a spare XB frame, just picked up an XB swingarm on ebay. Have my XB9 "leftovers" from the racebike conversion (stock pistons/heads/valves/barrels/cams)

That Blast motor will dang near bolt right in.

The singles classes are mIIIiiiighty tempting...
