Awesome work now all we need to know is what the donor bike was that you got the parts from. Should be much cheaper to source these parts than to pay for the BRP stuff. Great job. |

It was a Suzuki bandit but one from an SV650 or TL1000s would work too. He had to do
some modifications but it worked. Got the parts from a salvage yard. We'll be looking for more parts so he can do his bike when we get it. |

WWWWWait a minit.
That can't be right Julie/Dan.
The front link is moving the same as the rear... standard shift.
Rotate the front link around 130-140 degrees CCW and you're good.
Do I just need to go to bed?

Go to bed. The stock shifter works directly...and backwards of this one. I think I have some spare SV hardware lying around. I might have to play.

Dan has been busy getting his car ready for emissions testing but as soon as he's done he'll get on here and post some details of what he did.
One thing he did say is that the shift arm that goes on the transmission shift shaft needs to be aluminum and not a steel part because he had to drill out almost all the splines on the new shift arm. The aluminum shift arm will then form new splines according to the transmission shift shaft.
It is a snug fit, LIGHTLY tapped onto the transmission shaft.

Since it's a Rotax engine, perhaps a shifter linkage from a Aprilia Tuano 1000 might work. The only thing is that Aprilia's OEM linkage costs a lot more than BMC's GP shifter. |

My hubby is working on another GP shifting for his future CR so it will be ready when he gets it.

i picked up a shifter arm and toe peg, an M8 bolt with washers, and am gonna get some wider 1/4 inch aluminum plate, and hime joints to make the linkage.
i plan on using a bushing instead of a bearing - any body forsee a problem with that?
Jumpinjewels, what did your hubby use?
i'm sure mine will be an EYE-SORE compared to the above pictured, but i'm trying to keep it less than A HUNDO on the materials budget. and my time? .... it is priceless

i might be able to get away with using a carburetor linkage instead of the hime joints. should be cheaper/more common too |

Matt, Dan made a bushing for the shifter pivot point. You can get the hime joint thru Speedway (can't remember the whole name of their internet site) and they were about $7 each.
All the parts we bought for my bike cost $40. Granted it took him a while to figure it out but he enjoyed every minute.

cuttin out an L-shaped piece, and drilling 3 holes in it. then tapping threads in the 2 on the ends for threads, and putting a bushing in the pivot hole. |

got some ABEC 5 bearings, but they are too big to fit between the pivot bolt and peg mount. so i'm gonna go with a bushing after all. in my traveles, i was informed of a local shop that has heim joints. they might be cheaper than ebay ($3 + $1 for shipping) and will certainly be faster.
Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace was a waste of time. to summarize my shopping experiences:
'it doesn't matter what i'm making, i just want to but some damned heim joints, you effing has-been!'
this whole work thing is really slowin me down ... |
