Well got my first hundred miles on the 1125R and that is a noisy engine, even at idle..lol Kinda like a Duc.My older tubers were never as loud even with big cams, And the 1397 Busa sounds like a church mouse.. I guess with 2 cam chains and straight cut gears this is normal... any thoughts??? Thanks Ed |

My girlfriend is a portagee, so the engine on my 1125R seems quiet. |

If you have the opportunity, listen to it side by side with another unit. If it is significantly louder than another stock unit, there may be some issue. Unlikely, but do have a listen to another unit.... R |

Got the earplugs already. Like I said it sounds like a 1098 Duc. Just more noise than I am used too. It runs great and I have not babied it. |

Change the oil to a 20w50, it will quiet down some. Stock factory fill tested to a 40 weight. |

Only 100 miles, will do that at 600 and then at 2000 we go for the redline. I may just turn up the ipod for now...lol |

Mrbuell, 2000 miles for redline? That would be torture to me! I did the factory-prescribed break-in, making sure I didn't go near redline until I was safely at 601 miles :-) I too thought mine was noisy, or at least noises I wasn't used to. It seemed to quiet down as it broke in, or maybe it was the 620 mile oil change to synthetic 20W50. Or hell, maybe I just got used to it ... Either way, it hauls a$$. I hear the TB's sucking big air more than I hear anything else, exhaust included. Mike |

I meant Redline oil. Heck I have been 7500 rpm already |

I was thinking that, but the lowercase 'r' in redline made me think you actually meant that. I tried to keep mine under 6K for 300 miles, which was good in that it really made me appreciate the 7.5K mark. And then finally wrapping it over towards the bottom right section of the tach ... I still tingle just thinking about it! Mike |

Here's mine at idle with a fully warm motor. Taken with a flip video camera. It's a loud motor for sure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDN2EcZ9m1g |

You want to hear a loud engine. Listen to a Cannondale dirtbike or atv. I've read it's about 95 decibels on the timingchain side. |

Listen to a Cannondale dirtbike or atv. I know what you mean, Had a Cannondale quad behind me when I was on a YZ426F and I could hear his engine noise over both of our exhausts. Sounded like it was coming apart. But it ran good. |

Here's the video I took after changing the oil. Changed to mobil 1 v-twin 20w50. The previous video was with valvoline 20w50 conventional 4 stroke oil. Took some video from the rear from about 20 feet or so away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc-mAphyeEw The oil wasn't fully warm in this video, but the engine was still hot and the coolant was at operating temp. I think it was idling a little higher. I took the videos to document the engine sound before switching to mobil 1. Last time I used mobil 1 it caused a ticking noise with my xb9. So far so good with this motor. Bike has 600 miles on it. (Message edited by moosestang on November 12, 2009) |

Don't notice the engine noise so much now with the Drummer and the airbox off... Loud intakes save lives... 3...2...1... R |

After a few thousand miles the engine'll smooth out nicely to where you won't need ear plugs just to start it, I've been told. |

The dry open clutch of any duc is way louder that the 1125r. Unless you are talking about the wet clutch system then there is a tie on the engine/clutch sound. |

A buddy of mine has a Duc 749, dry clutch with a vented cover. First time I saw that bike was meeting up to go hit the mountains. My first thought was "Damn his bike's coming apart!" |

The R is my "quiet" bike to ride to work early in the mornings. The alternative for me is my V-rod with a CFR slip-on. That thing sets off every car alarm in my complex. |
