Hello I would like to Introduce myself, I am George I have been reading this Board for quite some time But I have never posted before till now. I am an American Greek living in Greece for the past 10 years, EX- Chicagoan, after owning various Harleys I finally Purchased a XB12r back in 2004, being really happy with the bike and its handling, I decided to buy a 1125cr. I went to my local HD Buell dealer and inquired, the list price for a 1125CR in Greece is 15,500 Euros which with the dollar exchange rate is about $22,000. I finally looked around all over Europe and found a 1125cr In Germany which had been dropped on the left side with minimal damage (it cost me $600 in parts to fix) after I got my bike in Greece for half the money It only had 2000 Kilometers on the clock, After riding the bike for a while suddenly I would shift into first gear and It would pop out and go back into Neutral. After my visit to my local dealer they took a look and told me its probably the clutch piston, which they replaced complete with the clutch cover which was covered under warranty. after I left the dealer the bike seemed to ride fine a week later The same problem again, I took it back to the dealer and they told me that my bike has no WARRANTY any more and they wanted me to pay for the previous repair. I totally refused and left the dealer. I called up HD customer care in the States spoke to a rep and they said they could not help me I would have to take it up with HD Europe. After many phone calls I could not resolve my problem. Finally I dropped the motor so that I could pull of the whole Right side case to see what the problem was. As soon as I pulled of the case To my HORROR I discovered that The cam chain tensioner had disintegrated into pieces and had jammed into the shift Pawl and would not allow the gear to engage (see YOUTUBE Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvAIKAj2bzk) After searching the web I found out that there was a recall on the cam chain tensioner I sent the video tor the European Rep and I was told that there was a recall on the rear cam chain tensioner not the FRONT PEEELEEASEEE!!!! give me a break and refused to cover me under any warranty (YOUTUBE video part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svsLw3NnKuU) To make the whole story short I ordered parts from the US and repaired the bike myself which really got me mad,I do not have a Lemon law in Greece I do not have the NHTSA to Bitch to in Greece and because I did not buy my motorcycle in Greece the dealer brushed me off, All I have is this board to complain too so others can see my Problem |

I don't think you have a problem. You have a used, and crashed, motorcycle that you bought in a different country than where you live. Because it was a "good deal" [or, a better deal]. Apparently not. |

You bought a used wrecked bike ... not sure how any Lemon Law would apply ... |

All I have is this board to complain too so others can see my Problem Thats about all you got. once you buy a "salvaged" bike you are on your own. Ask me how i know. Just get to know your bike and make sure you stay on the preventative side of the maintenance. |

Sorry to hear that, seems like a valid recall could give you some leverage for atleast parts. I kinda know how you feel,, I bought my 09r for $12,000 and just a few months later they're selling them for $7,999. |

You just described exactly why I never buy used motorcycles. I figure if the bike were really all that good... why is the owner trying to unload it? |

Lemon Law is not applicable, not there nor would it be here. NHTSA has nothing to do with this unless you can prove it's a design defect that poses a safety threat. It's all Greek to me . . . |

jaimec said" "You just described exactly why I never buy used motorcycles. I figure if the bike were really all that good... why is the owner trying to unload it?" he described exactly why i never buy new vehicles of any sort - cars or bikes. so, he had a few issues, and ended up doing some work and spending some extra cash. he still saved a ton over buying new. as to why the original owner is selling it? likely as many reasons as there are original owners selling stuff. in the case of a bike like the cr, it's extremely reasonable that the seller, after dropping it at 2000km, felt snake-bit, and didn't wanna ride it any more. this bike could be a real handful to many riders. this is another reason i try to awoid new purchases. if after a few miles/months/etc, if i decide i made a poor decision and don't really like it, it's much easier to re-sell w/o taking a financial bath. ymmv. on another topic, i do not see why a bike that has been dropped would no longer qualify for its two-year warranty, as long as its damage wasn't so great that it was written off as totaled, for salvage... doug s. |

Tough crowd here. He didn't say it was a "salvaged" bike, but maybe it is. If the bike isn't a salvage bike it should still be under warranty (if in the time frame). If it is a salvage bike then he is on his own. As for the cam chain tensioner. If it's under warranty/not salvaged and the problem can't be connected to the fall over they should cover it. Psolpsol, What was the reason that they gave you for not covering it? (Message edited by dentguy on November 10, 2009) |

as far as i know, buell warranty is worldwide, and if the bike is registered with the "change of ownership form" (available at the harley-dealers) and if the bike is serviced according to the manual, then it should be covered... |
