Already news in another post, apologies for the redundant thread. This is CR version only. |

How much do dealers charge for a reflash? |

It's free, if they try to charge you, find another dealer. (Message edited by d_adams on November 08, 2009) |

Newb Alert!: Why do CRs and Rs have different flashes, I thought the motors were the same? |

Motors are the same...gearing is different. ac |

Ok thanks. Is that the gearing in the tranny or just the sprocket size? |

Sprocket as far as I know. 10% lower |

This is something I've never understood; if it is just the external gearing different between the R & CR then why the need for different flashes? For some reason I think the CR may be tuned for less top end power. But I could be wrong - and probably am! |

Since the instrument clusters are the same I assume you need different flashes for the computer to do the math to calculate your speed. ac |

Bingo Anthony. Also since they are geared differently, the fuel and spark maps should be subtly different too. A certain Dave would know, I don't. One of the parts of doing a CR sprocket-set on an R is getting the CR flash. Zack |

After putting 600 miles on my R, it's hard to imagine shorter gearing ... But I'm thinking it could be good fun. At least now I know why the R and CR flashes are different, so I guess you can teach this old dog a new trick or two! Mike |

Really? I have both and the gearing on the CR is way better on the street. I hunt between 2nd and 3rd on back road riding on my R. The CR LOVES 3rd. ac |

AC, I meant 'hard to imagine' in a positive way. Awkward way of saying the R seems so good (at least to me), I can't hardly imagine shorter gearing. It would be like sleeping with one hot woman, and then saying "I can't imagine having two." Why sure I can!! I'm a fan of lower final drives in both cars and bikes. I'll have to give a CR a ride some day. Mike |

Hmmm...CR sprocket/flash mod something to consider |

If you put a CR sprocket on an R, you have to change the swingarm too. The sprocket is *that* big, it needs a bigger 'notch' in the swingarm to clear it at the front edge. From what I can tell, the different parts from R to CR are: Rear sprocket Belt tensioner bracket Swingarm I was thinking about maybe getting an R setup for my CR, just for swapping around...but the flash thing makes me hesitant. Not worth messing with it for 500 rpm on the highway. |

I don't know. A guy on Ebay had the CR pulley with an 08 R swingarm. ac |

Swingarm part numbers are different. Haven't had them in-hand to measure and verify though. But...they ARE different - and that's '09 to '09, they specify HL or YL (the VIN designator). |

I understand the swingarm part numbers are different...I was just reporting that some guy on Ebay had it done and reported it worked just fine. ac |

Does someone have the different part numbers for the 09 R and 09 CR? The reason I ask is I called Buell Customer Support today and asked if the swap is possible without changing the swingarm. The rep told me after a brief time on hold that all you'd need is a sprocket, belt, and reflash. I called my local dealer shortly after to inquire about the swingarms, and he told me that he shows the same part number for both 09 bikes. I know there is the VIN differentiator, but not sure what that means. Obviously the 08 and 09 swingarms are different...blue versus black and w/o and w/ spools. Hearing these two pieces of information firsthand and seeing the bike on Ebay has me seriously considering the swap. |

The swingarm is needed for correct belt geometry, not to make room for the sprocket. |

Cafe, if memory serves me correctly, you were unhappy when you upgraded to 141. That of course caught my attention since the CR's 141 is the R's 131 equivalent. My bike had 131 on it when it arrived home. Mine was updated to 142 yesterday (The R's equivalent to the CR's 152), and it definitely doesn't have any problems doing a power wheelie. Very smooth and pulls noticeably harder than my original. Mike |

Hmmm....may have to consider 152 once I get a chance to rail on in (when break-in is done - and don't hit me with the motoman bit; my bike, my choice). Sounds like its a good flash...but I haven't had any issues yet and my motto is "if it ain't broke...". Swingarm, 2009 (same numbers/descriptions for '10): K0003.2AMYCX, swingarm assembly w/5, 9, 11 & label(s) (phantom metallic), HL K0003.1ATYCX, swingarm assembly w/5, 9, 11 & label(s) (phantom metallic), YL (5,9,11 are pivot bearings, spacer, and the bushing to mount the shock bolt) |

I just called my dealer ... Stone Mountain Harley. It took a while but they finally verified they have 152 on their digital technician so I can come in and get my ECM flashed. Initially they were searching on HD-NET and saw nothing about a new flash. They plugged in my VIN and nothing came up about service being required. Finally the went out in the workshop and checked the digital tech. |

Rat, I have that same motto - Probably the reason I asked more than my fair share of 'flash' questions. I didn't want to upgrade from 131 to 142 (or 141 to 152 for the CR folks) only to regret it. If my first 25 miles are an indicator, I am very happy I did upgrade. I hoped to put some more miles on today, but this pesky work stuff is keeping me in the office. I'll carve out some time hopefully. Mike |

The CR swingarm is 5mm longer, to compensate for the lower gearing. |

to compensate what? do they really think, that with a 5mm longer swingarm (i thought it's 1cm) the front wheel will stay down? (Message edited by cherry_bomb on November 10, 2009) |

Thats what buell said when they brought it out, I am not an engineer and didn't design it. |
