Ive already posted here a little bit, but never made a formal introduction. My name is Mike, as you can see by my screen name and lack of imagination. I currently own a 2002 Kawasaki zx9r.

Ive been planning on buying a new bike for the last 6 months now. Im very picky about my bike(s) and couldnt decide what I wanted. Originally, I was only considering a big 4 Jap bike. Every liter bike i looked at made by them had something I didnt like about it. The gsxr-1000 was the only one I felt i could live with. I still wasnt so sure about that and I didnt want to spend $12k+ on something I wasnt thrilled with. At the same time, my fiance's bike was starting to fall apart. She had an '02 Yamaha yzf600r. After months of trying to get her to ride my '02 zx9r to see how she liked it, she finally agreed. She was always nervous to ride it because I maintain it and have kept it in pristine condition since it was new. I was planning on using it as a trade in to put a down payment on a new bike. She fell in love with it and wouldnt even ride her Yami any more. That put a little rush on me getting a new bike. At about the same time, the announcement came that HD was shutting down Buell. I saw a few threads on a message board Im on about crazy low 1125r prices. I talked to one of my buddies and he set me up with a test ride at a HD dealer that he knew a salesman at. I wasnt crazy about the looks of the 1125r, but at the prices they were selling, I had to give it a ride. I think I fell in love with the uniqueness as much as anything else about the bike. I ride with people that own everything from KTMs and BMWs to Ducatis and Aprilias. There arent many Buell riders in the group of people I ride with. I called around for prices and when I found one in an acceptable range, I bought it on the spot. Its coming from out of state and should be here next week.

If you had asked me 6 months ago, i would have said theres no way I would be riding a Buell soon. Now, I cant wait for it to get here. Everyone wants to check it out. Its the anti-jap sportbike. So many people I know have never heard about the brake system, the fuel in the frame etc and they cant wait to check it out.

OK. I guess thats enough about myself for now. I wonder how many people actually read my whole story.

Mike,
WAFO, read the whole story. Enjoy the new ride. I wasn't crazy about the looks at first, either, but it's really grown on me.

Mike, I too came from a LONG list of Jap (and a few British bikes). Mostly big nasty Gixxer's. When I first saw pics of the 1125R in '07 (I owned a XB12R at the time) I thought 'well ain't that a damn shame, monster motor with frickin horrible styling'. Fast forward two years and a great opportunity arose (salvage bike) and I got snapped up an 08 for cheap.

I still say Buell coulda done better in the styling department (such as releasing the bike with the 'faring lowers' from the get go) but I've really learned to love this bike. Don't be discourged if its not perfect out the gates - if you run into a few problems they are usually easily fixed. Also don't let the 'tone' of some posters put you off Badweb - some have drunk deeply the Buell-aid Kool-aid - BUT by and large its a good bunch of fellas. Welcome aboard matey!

Welcome Mike! Take care of that girl...hard to find one that rides... mine has switched to the dark side with a new XB12Scg... she LOVES that little bike. So do I.

Be patient with your new buy. Learn the technology if you like and share it with the cookie cutters. Being unique is a truly fun part about being on a Buell. It's not just different for the sake of being different though...it's different for very good reasons.

If you run into problems, let us know. What is your servicing dealership?

Mike,

Welcome to the family.

I've always said that Buell makes (made, sigh) sport bikes for grown-ups -- for people who actually wanted a performance bike for the streets. Yes, the Gixxer 1000 can beat it around a track or at the drag strip, but put skilled riders on both for a day of riding the twisties, and I'm betting on the Buell rider. He'll probably be faster and he'll definitely be spending less time fighting with the bike. At the end of the day, he's going to be less tired, more alert, and less sore.

You should fit in fine with your buddies on Ducatis, Aprilias, KTMs, and BMWs. They sound like riders who understand that the way that the bike delivers power is just as important as how much it delivers. That's why the ruler-flat torque curve of the 1125R/CR is so intoxicating.

Keep us informed. And if you Change your name to Mike1125r, we will probably still know it's you. ; )

I tell everyone that the Buell is different than anything they have seen, but every part of it has a function. That it wasnt thrown on there to try to make the bike pretty.

I guess my servicing dealer will be Rossmeyer HD in Pompano. I wish there was some place closer since they are 60 miles away. I usually do all of my work on my own. Im an auto mechanic by trade, so I am mechanically inclined and have a bunch of tools. Ive worked on (jap) bikes a bit and have done clutches and motor swaps and stuff. }

As you get time, wander thru the archives.
We have been playing with this machine for a couple of years now.
My warranty expires next month, getting in the last of my "warranty repairs" now.

Welcome to Buell and the BadWeB.

Welcome to the family of riders. Just like Zac has said read through some archives. One of the first mods you can do that is easy is the "Denoid" method most of us have done and try to find a dealer up to date on ECM flashes. Oh and of course Have Fun!!!

I looked into the denoid thing. It looks like the part is on back order? I may just unplug it for the time being.

Leave the noid plugged in, just remove the cable.
If you unplug it, you'll get a constant CEL.

CEL will only occur if you hit the WFO condition in third gear and the right rpm, as I understand the matter, I removed the noid and fitted the Buell plug as soon as I took delivery of the 1125R in nov 08 based on the advise from this forum, no way am I having my throttle commands over ruled just to suit some daft noise/emmissions law, CEL will cancel the next time you start the engine and a fault code will be stored until 50 ignition on/off cycles have been actioned before it drops into historic data (or something like this, my Buell diagnostics manual is at home and I'm typing this at work)

Jon - if you unplug the noid and don't plug in a term resistor, you will get a constant CEL.
The ECM looks for the noid, if it doesn't see it or a similar resistance... CEL

Hi Mike,

You mentioned that your servicing dealer may be Pompano Rossmeyers HD. I live in Delray Beach, and I believe the only two remaining Buell service centers long-term are Ocala (where I bought my new red 1125CR "The Rock Lobster") and Peterson's south in Miami. But if there are others in FL, I'd like to know; Peterson's is 1 hour south. The HD cust service line said that the final Buell center list will shake out after November.

I have a Buell 2000 S3T thunderbolt garaged in St Pete too for riding up there. I've ridden Buells since my 1st Cyclone in 1997, met Erik many times, I think you will really like the bike. I really like the 1125CR, and I'm comparing it to my '03 Ducati 999 which is no slouch.

I received some sensible answers from the Buell tech at Peterson's and also from a gentleman at the HD customer service line; no nonsense that I'll void my warranty if I use other than HD oil, self-service, etc. (Unlike the service managers at other HD dealers.) So I think Peterson's will be OK for the 12K valve adjustment, ECM flashes, etc.

I made an ASSumption that Rossmeyer would still service Buells since they were still selling them last time I was there. I hope thats the case. South Miami and Ocala are both quite a trip from me.
