Hi; I recently performed my initial 600 mile service on my 1125r and there was considerable gasoline saturation in the oil. My break in rides were done very carefully at operating temperature, various speeds and done in 100-200 mile chunks. The bike hasn't had a problem yet and runs like a champ. No codes set at anytime. Did anyone else encounter this? thanks Dave |

Dave: What do you mean by "considerable gasoline saturation in the oil"? Most of my M/C do have some smell of gas when I change the oil. It is especially more pronounced in cooler/ cold times of the year. What kind of MPG are you getting? |

CCryder; I'd say there was enough gas in the oil to make it noticably thinner plus add to the overall volume. Although I didn't think to measure I'm sure I drained over 3 qts. I've never seen contamination to this degree before (ASE cert. mech, 15+ years working on bikes etc) and that is kind of disconcerting. I'm running about 35mpg which appears to be about average based on the posts I've seen. It only had 14 miles when I bought it so it's not a demo that had been started and ran hard cold over and over either. superdave |

only way to know for sure is to send a sample to a lab to have it analyzed. my guess is maybe your rings took a little longer to seat? |

The only way to know if fuel dilution is excessive is to have a sample analyzed. Do not go by smell or volume. Smells are deceiving and the volume could have been incorrect to begin with. That being said, if you're rings didn't seat, you could definitely get blow by. Too gentle a break-in is as bad/worse than a hard break in. |

Only way I could think that much could get by the rings and it still run OK would be for an injector to drip after shutdown. Enough gas getting by the rings would have it skipping pretty bad for a long time. I'd do a sample and then monitor my oil level carefully to see if it rises. |

I could just IMAGINE trying to discuss oil contamination with a dealer showing them analysis results. Oh to be a fly on the wall! ac |

Put a lighter to the oil ... if it burns it's got gasoline in it ... |

Yeah, flaming oil is a bad thing. |

I bet you broke it in easy like the manual. Just a hunch. Rings. |

skntpig; My break in was reasonable I'd say, not too easy but definitely not hard on it imho. I did keep it under 6k for the first 300 and under 7500 for the next 300 but I did vary the load, RPM and speed quite a bit. Majority of the time was probably spent between 70-100mph. Dave |

Why do you think there is gas in the oil? This was my break in oil at 115 miles. I used an old deep fryer pan as my drain pan, that's the reason they mention chicken parts in the comments. I thought that was the strangest looking oil i'd ever seen, so I sent a sample to blackstone labs. Here's the analysis. Mine also seemed thin and according to blackstone it is only a 40 weight. They found no water, antifreeze or gas in the oil. (Message edited by moosestang on November 09, 2009) |

+1 on the analysis. Slight hi-jack Moose, With that color I would have thought you lost a piston. Glad to see you got an analysis and everything is good. Mine on the dipstick at 500mi just looks like normal light brownish oil. |

Geez that oil looks bad. I would be up in arms too seeing that come out of my bike. Glad the test showed normal aside from the color. |

I failed to mention that I added a little bit of mobil 1 v-twin to the mix prior to draining. I'm not sure the mobil 1 would explain the gray color, but it's a possibility. Who knows what they put in at the factory. I don't know what normal is for this bike, but the titanium is the only that that was really high compared to their comparison. I just changed the oil today and it looked normal. I'll do another analysis on the next oil change. |

I was going to mention black stone labs but I see its already been brought up. As soon as I get my container I'm sending mine off too so I'll be curious to see the results now that they'll at least have 1 on file. Mine looks greyish green with nothing added. Cool deal Blur! I'll be interested to see your numbers. How many miles are on your oil? |

Thanks for doing that test!! My first change looked like that and I was concerned. Strange.............. |
