I have about 500 miles on the CR so far and just called to see how much for the break in service. They want $210 for what amounts to an oil change and inspection. What should I do? I did all my own oil changes on the xb but never had to do much more than that, and I'll admit I'm a little intimidated by the new technology, at least for the first service. Is there any reason I should just let the dealer do it? |

Nope. change the oil/filter for $50-60 yourself (use full synthetic) and save the reciept. Go over the bike with a fine tooth comb, check every nut and bolt, paying attention to safety related stuff like brakes, steering stem bearings, axles and the like. Spend time getting to know your bike. You'll thank yourself later. Also, get a service manual. You will NOT void the warranty doing this type of maintenance work. |

The oil change is a PITA. Read the oil change threads first, it will save you some frustration. |

Easily done by most "shade-tree mechanics". If you think this oil change is a PITA, come on over and I'll let you change my ST1300 oil and filter! |

All of the above. I did my own. (Dealer quoted $280 and a 2-week wait back in May. Also told me they change the primary oil, so, uh-oh, I thought, better do it myself.) Saved the receipts for the oil and filter, even took pics for the record. Checked "critical fasteners" and all fasteners I could reach, coolant, etc. And I recall a post where someone lost the cap on the rear brake fluid reservoir, so I snug that whenever I have the seat off. Got the shop manual and a parts book right after I got the bike. |
