What a crazy day,I decided to change the oil in the bike today, pulled it out the shop fired it up & noticed the LH mirror would not stay in one spot, tried to tighten but didn't work so I proceeded for a short 3 mile ride for a warm up,well the mirror portion falls off and shatters in the highway. It gets worse,I got back drained the oil,put on a new HD oil filter ,plugged the tube and added 2qts of HD 20W 50 to the tank, all by the book.Fired it up run fine,I let it idle for about 2 minutes and revved it a tad and it puffs blue smoke?Makes no sense,it puffs a tad only when revved but it never done it prior to the oil change,my only conclusion is it had synthetic in it prior to the change.Any ideas (Message edited by scdobber on November 06, 2009) (Message edited by scdobber on November 06, 2009) |

I'm thinking it has bad valve seals and was running synthetic prior to the change, maybe not but a 02 with 1300 miles,it had to set for long periods causing the seals to dry out? |

I wouldn't get excited about it just yet. Bad valve seals would leak regardless of synth or dino drippings. Give it a good flogging first. As for the mirror...now you have an excuse to buy bar-end mirrors. |

First time I've ever seen this happen,I come to all kinds of conclusions even to the point that the previous owner/dealer doctored it in some form with a additive.I'll ride it some more and see what happens.Just Crazy |

There's lot's of lolly-pop, or mouse ear mirrors in people's take off parts boxes if you don't want to spend too much to replace it. I may have one you can use until something better is found, I believe it's got some hairline cracks in it. |

For my X1 the book calls for 2.5 Qts. I would take it out for a good hard ride after a proper warm up. Does magic. |
