I had one of the stock windshield fasteners break (or possibly come loose and fall out) while going down the road. I am surprised and glad that the other three held the screen on, though just barely. Is there a stonger/more secure plastic or metal replacement available for the fasteners, or is the Buell part my only option? (I don't want to buy a new screen.) Thanks! |

I just replaced the fasteners on the bottom row with stainless Hex Socket Screws and large fender washers on the back side. Make sure to use nylon insert lock nuts, snug down tight and away you go. It has worked with no problem for the past 15,000 miles with many 100+ MPH excursions. |

Are you running the short windshield? I assume so by your post. I would recommend getting the tall screen lower screws to secure it. |

I would recommend getting the tall screen lower screws to secure it. The bottom two holes in the windshield will have to be enlarged in order to use those screws. A step bit works well for the job. |

Are you running the short windshield? I assume so by your post. It is a Zero Gravity shield (OEM?) that was on the bike when I bought it. The ones Zero offers directly for the Uly use the factory fasteners according to Zero's website. It is a pull off/push in deal. Judging by how cheap and flimsy the fastener "rivets" are, I'd say it is OEM equipment. It was one of the top ones that failed. Thanks for the assistance guys. |

Yea that explains your issue, the OEM shield wouldn't of done that. The OEM tall shield, which is similar to the ZG, uses different fasteners. |

I just bought my 08 XT a month ago and took it to the local dealer about having the air box decals replaced.(Bubbling up) While I was there any Uly between Sept 07 and Sometime late 2008 there is a safety recall on the windshield. Not sure of the specifics yet. The dealer wasn't sure either. Let you know more then I take it back to have it all sorted out. |

The recall only affect OEM Tall windshields. His Zero Gravity shield is aftermarket, so he would be on his own for a fix. |

The recall parts (also known as late model XT / XP hardware) will go on any Uly, without drilling or modification. You do have to remove the flyscreen from the bike to attach the windscreen, since there are loose nuts that have to go on the backside. I live in the Department of Overkill (and the kits are cheap), so all four of my attaching buttons are now the recall screw/washer/nut/spacer setup. |

This is what's used for the early Tall Shield, as mentioned the lower holes need opening on the stock Short shield:

My '09 had to have the recall kit installed on it. Seems they must have had a ton of old stock years after the original recall. |

I bought a new 08 two weeks ago it only had the two screws holding the screen on. The sales liar took the two screws and rubber mounts of their demo bike and put them on mine to give it four screw fixing. Looking at the picture of the kit he got it wrong ,now why doesn't that surprise me ? |

I installed those fasteners in Xbim's post in all 4 holes in my Buell tall W/S. I cut down the spacers on the lower mounts to make the shield more upright and put a bugshield bumper on top off the flyscreen between the w/s and flyscreen. It makes the w/s sturdier and it won.t fold down giving more wind protection. |
