so how long before American Sport Bike runs out of our beloved tuber parts???? just a question becuase though my bike is in tip top shape now, what happens two years from now when i need a wheel bearing? |

the bearings are a common size any bearing house has typically...and half the price of a dealer |

My Koyo front bearings were $5.88/ea. Bought from the local Bearing house. I wouldn't buy this brand again though because the casings aren't stainless. When I take the wheels off for sandblasting I'll go back and get some with stainless housings. I think bearing was a bad example. You should be more worried about parts that only the dealer carries..like say a throttle position sensor, cam position sensor, brake master cylinder, etc,. etc. |

BUELLers: Well "NOW" ??? Buy yourself a FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL and PARTS BOOK for your YEAR and MODEL while you can still get them ... "HARLEY-DAVIDSON Motor Company making MECHANICS and PARTS MEN out of BUELL Riders since THURSDAY 15 OCTOBER 2009 !!!" The PART NUMBERS in your "PARTS BOOK" that are HARLET-DVIDSON Part Numbers can be bought at your local HARLEY-DAVIDSON Stealership ... Have a 108,822.1 miles on my 1997 S3T as of the last ride ... Change the brake fluid in the master cylinders every 6 months - running OEM calipers and master cylinders with none ever having been rebuilt so this is not a problem for me ... Break Pads(front/rear) are easy to find as metric bikes used them ... Grease my sealed wheel bearings that those say they can not be re-greased every 25K and still running original OEM bearings ... Adjust my PRIMARY CHAIN and DRIVE BELT "CORRECTLY" so drive train problems have never been a problem ... Never had any electrical problems because "i" tie wrapped all my wiring so when riding the "WIRING WIGGLE TEST" is not happening ... Change my BATTERY before it goes BAD and takes stator and voltage regulator with it - still running OEM stator and voltage regulator ... If "i" was to need a bearing of any type, the local bearing store has plenty of them ... Always ask for the BETTER of your OEM bearing part number that is on the bearing ... Know of nothing that can not be obtained from an aftermarket supplier !!! Somebody on BadWeatherBikers will always know where what you need can be found !!! "MAY THE LONG LASTING BUELL BE WITH YOU !!!" |

ok well you guys really nailed me to the wall about bearings..geeeeesh...i was using it as a broad term. i know where to get parts if i need them now. but lets just say asb runs out of something, where is he gonna get it from? will there be a third party company to continue producing? |

The dealers who have "signed up" to support Buells will carry parts for at least next seven years. Then they will dump the parts onto certain aftermarket outfits like American Sport Bike, Ironmachine, etc. As said before, the parts manual could be really useful since a number of on-line places only go with part numbers. I wouldn't worry about it too much. |

The tubers really have little to worry about this problem, because a lot of parts are shared with other makes and models. The headlights and switchgear are Ducati pieces, the motor is HD (which will NEVER be out of parts availability lol), and just about anything can be made if the need arises. |

here is another dirty little secret.... Got a TSC (Tractor Supply Co.) near you? Guess what they have! Our beloved wheel bearings and they are a stocked item. |

All of the M2 specific parts I have pretty much in stock in my garage. 2+ body sets, 1 swingarm, oil tank, rims, dash, rear hugger... the list goes on. Most of it was aquired on ebay as guys were hacking up M2's for choppers. I got great deals on the body work and it has already paid off as I destoyed one tail section at a track day. |

Yeah, I am with Koz. I've been stocking up. I have 2 brand new in box tailsections, about everything he's listed, and tons more. D-day for us tubers was inevitable. I didn't think it'd be this massive though. Just thought we'd die off slowly LOL, and left to fend for ourselves. |

Its not d day, most of our parts are shared with sporties. And the aftermarket will take up the slack when harley stops providing parts. |

Ok...So, who's going to make exhausts...Becauswe I'm pretty sure no one makes a header for these any longer. Oh, in 2 years Sporties will have M2 tails and Manta tanks? LOL Not everything is interchangeable haha |

who still makes exhausts? Tails arnt hard to come by, neither are tanks at this moment. Plus theres always airtech who can make the stuff. I meant engine parts. |

Force will still make an exhaust for your tuber, and I'm sure a local exhaust shop could come up with something for the right price. I've been thinking about building an exhaust from pre-bent stainless tubing, some stock flanges cut off a scrap header, and a megs megaphone. I still might do it later, but I want to get the bike on the road right now, so I got a Force exhaust on the way. |

I don't have a big enough chunk of aluminum to build the adapter, or the time it seems to get done lol. I'm gonna wheel the bike to my Dad's neighbor and see if he'll build me an adapter out of steel while I work and finish the paint. Then, when I park my bike again to have the forks rebuilt and the wheels sandblasted, I'll have a friend of mine build me a new adapter out of aluminum. Hopefully no more than two weeks and the bike will be back on the road, or at least running enough to get it to my house. |

the only things that I would worry about are buell specific items, IIRC the isos are from other harleys, so engine mount, swing arm, shock, trees, seats, pipes, body work, in the course of the discussion a lot of the questions have been answered. dont worry for now, perhaps we can start picking up wrecked bikes for parts. |

As sad as it sounds, might be cheaper just to buy another bike. I looked on ebay today and saw 3 cyclones with less then 10,000 miles selling between $2,200 and $3,000. One of them is real close to my house. On the other hand, if I need a part and can't find it I guess I will just have to break into some dude's garage in South Bend Indiana! ha ha ha |

Guell engine parts will never be a problem for tubers Sportster parts fit fine. As I see it the biggest non Harley part is the Fuel injection system on the X1 and S3 if that gets to be a problem we just put a carb on them. |

I forgot, i dont deal with that wonky ddfi stuff, carb here, I can get body stuff from airtech, or make anything i want. Parts will not be an issue for these bikes. Now an 1125r, that might be an issue say 10 years down the road. |
