So I bought an 1125R last week, Brand new 127 miles on it. Some from the Set-up mechanic (Maybe 25-35), Rest from a Demo ride.

Regardless it's back in the shop for service.

1st, When driving it home I noticed the throttle was a little "Iffy" Maybe 1/2" of play before I got any response out of it. I wasn't sure if this was normal or not so I dis-regarded it for the moment. My uncle bought the exact same bike Minus the Fairings and I played with his bike two days ago and Guess what, that play I have is not normal.

2nd, Bike seemed to be riding a little rough. Now I know it's breaking in, But I mean it was decelling funky, Accelerating like it was struggling, or bogging a bit. Just really weird. (I'm blaming the ECM Flash ATM. Their going to make sure it's up to date.

3rd, Both front and rear wheel bearings are completely rusted over. I figured a little Naval jelly and a toothbrush when i detail it and all should be fine, after reading 4-5 posts about front and rear wheel bearing failure in the 08 Rs I decided to have them check them out and make sure all is well while it's on the lift. If not I told them I want them replaced with the 09 Bearings.

4th, The suspension set-up for the bike is all over the place. No where near the factory settings. So, when I dropped it off I Mentioned it. Service tech looks at me and says, How much do you weigh? I tell him 205# And he says NP, Will get that taken care of too.

Not sure how every things going to turn out, Will keep you guys updated. But one thing in my favor is their giving my service order to a Buell tech that rides an 1125R. Hopefully he treats my bike as he does he would his own. From what the Service manager says it should be done tomorrow afternoon.

Throttle play is a simple cable adjustment at the grip. Lots of it comes to user preference - spec says 1/4 to 1/3" I think. I like mine closer to 1/16 or 1/8 at the most.

Iffy running could just be a break-in issue, but they can check for the most recent flash. Should be unrelated to the throttle slack...

Bearings - I thought, but I haven't spent much time on the 1125 board until now - are mostly a Ulysses issue, I thought. Again, new to the 1125 boards since I just brought home a CR last week... I do know that the surface rust that you can see *around* the bearing seal is not the issue; it's when moisture gets *past* the seal and you get rust on the ballbearings themselves. You have to disassemble the bearing (remove the seal) to see that. The external giveaway is grease being squirted/leaked out of the seal, and spreading around the wheel hub.

Did they set the bike up for your weight before you took it home? They are NOT set at the factory...for ANYthing. Showa puts the forks and shocks together, all Buell does is install 'em. Left fork may be different from right fork, and the shock can be a third setup. It's strictly "assemble - fill - leak check - good? - ship it out". "Factory Suspension Settings" is misleading in the manual - it should read "Recommendations" at the end of the phrase...

1. This is easily fixed by adjusting the cable slack. Every 1125 I've ridden has more than I care for. Simple fix.

2. Hard to say w/o witnessing. Could be flash, could lots of things. Did you check the oil properly? Lots of things to potentially check.

3. I've heard of this, but not witnessed it either. I'm sure warranty will remedy if you approach them right.

4. This isn't atypical. Set it to the manual and adjust per your likes/dislikes as you add miles. You'll be happy.

Rat, No they didn't set the suspension before I walked OTD with the bike. Service was closed when i left the dealership at 11PM at night.

1234, I figured the throttle was an easy fix. But quite honestly I figured it was going in for the flash so I let them deal with it.

Oil seemed fine, Checked it while my Brother in-law kept it upright. Wierd thing about the rough ride is that when it's in the 5500 range it seems happy. 4500 doesn't like it and the two times I took it to 7000 it didn't like it. That's why I was thinking the Flash.

As for the service this isn't costing me a dime because this should have all been addressed before I took delivery on the bike but like I said before Service was closed at that time. I called the next morning with my concerns and this was the first chance I could get it over. And I'll take it for a quick spin up 95 when I get it back to get the feel of it. If it's good, then great, if not.....

Normally I would have addressed these things myself, but I've been running a 102 fever and have no Garage. So, guess i'm going to find out how the service guys are at my Local Shop.

Does the dealer's name begin with B and end with "rians"?

Mike - I don't let service guys set my buyers' suspensions...I do it myself. I figure with an S2, S1W, Uly, and now a CR in the garage alongside my wife's M2L...I can probably do it faster than they can : )

Let us know how it works out, and check the other 1125 threads - apparently there's a new -151 flash out now. I'm happy enough with my -12z, but if it turns out 151 is a winner I may have to give it a shot.

the bearing issue is a distinct possibility on some early 1125s..i have encountered a few.

Suspension settings are in your owners manual ...didn't you read your circular son? There is some assembly required.

Buzzie, I read the manual. I even played with it a bit. But I'm sick and being lazy and hinted about it when I dropped it off and they said they'd take care of it. =P No skin off mine, If I don't like it, when I'm feeling better I'll get out their and fix it.

LOL

Mike,
I live in NE Philly. I took the R7 train to Trenton, transferred to the NE corridor line and hopped off at Rahway to go to Liberty and buy my 1125R.
Went to Liberty for the last service (didn't have the tools or the patience to change the fork oil) on my S2.
Brian's is a straight shot up Rt. 1 from my house. 20 minutes.
I guess that means bad? As Court is fond of saying, remind me to tell you about how they nearly turned my S2 into a hand grenade. Screwed up a simple warranty rocker box gasket replacement on my Blast. Or how when asked about the difference between a new 08 Uly and a used 06 their "Buell guy" sales geek could only say "heated grips are standard".
Or maybe it was the mystery gouge in the WP forks on the S2 when I finally got it back that pushed me over the edge? Hard to say, but my opinion of them is pretty low.

Went into Liberty once, Was going to buy a $500.00 leather jacket for the G/F, had it at the Register took out my HOG card for 20% off and was told it didn't count cause I was on a VRSCR. I thought she was kidding until she rang it up and didn't add the 20% off and Re-iterated it seriously. I walked out to say the least. Never used their Service though.

Ended up buying it online from a dealer in Fla, they gave me 20% off sticker. Another 20% off for HOG membership, and free shipping. Got the jacket for just over $250.00 and the G/f has worn it 1 time, to try it on about a year ago.. =(

Mike,
Sorry to hear about the jacket, both the buying and the wearing ;D
I've had nothing but great experiences at Liberty, and would recommend them if you need service down the road.
The "other guys" that have your bike right now? Your experience mirrors my own and that of several other people I know - being handed the keys to a bike that at the very least was not ready to be ridden.
25 to 35 miles of "setup ride" and they never noticed the issues that were obvious to you just on the ride home? Sounds familiar.
Hopefully they'll get it sorted quickly for you. Weather is supposed to be pretty good next week ; )

It's about done, The service tech called me this AM to ask me if I was sure I wanted them to do the suspension because it had a $45.00 fee asessed to it. I missed that call. I was sick in bed with Bronchitis. Regardless I called my sales guy and told him about the call I missed and he said. No, theirs no charge for that. Maybe he thinks it's just a normal Half hour labor rate or something. I said that was on us. I'll take care of it and give you a call when it's done. The rest should be done already.

Damn, Mike. Sorry to hear your sick and the bike's in the shop. I'm due in for the 600 mile in about a week if the weather holds out. That sucks that your bike has had all those problems. I haven't really noticed too much with mine. Get better dude. BTW did you get to apply the referral card to service?

Ok, So I'm told the Throttle is Normal. And they recommend I don't tighten it up at all because when doing a Hard right turn it will put the wrist in a bad position and if you hit a bump you can accidently accelerate and lose the bike?

ECM Flash fixed the rough riding, She's very responsive to the throttle now once it engages though.

Suspensions all set up for my weight and feels better in the seat. Not a BIG improvement. But nice.

And the bearings are fine. Just some surface rust that came right off. Will have them checked again at 1000 Miles.

Snug up the throttle cables yourself.

Their logic is retarded.

I set mine to where there's a few mm of slack at the most.

try it and see if you like it. If you don't, put it back the way it was. It's a simple thing to do.

Lions

Yeah that's what I figured I'd do, I just figured I'd throw everything I thought of at them when they Flashed the ECM, and Set-up the suspension, SO the Bearings and throttle were on the list...

I put my Traction grips on today. So I'll probably fidget with the throttle cable tomorrow and take it for a ride.

BTW, the traction grips, an X-acto knife, and a dremel with smooth sanding drum makes the Stock bar ends look like they're factory installed.

Had 127 Miles OTD, So, I'm praying someone had some fun with it on a Demo, and the Set-up tech really beat the snot out of it when he took it out.

Meanwhile, I've been riding it hard. but the Power surging it was doing had me a little on edge. And I haven't de-noided so I've been leery of that... I'm a big fan of the Ride it hard break in method.

Interesting site...I wish I had seen that before.

I denoided yesterday morning. Just disconnected the cable and removed it. I didn't feel like waiting for a module from Buell or going out and making one so I left the solenoid in there.

Could you please clarify that statement? We normally offer 10% off for HOG & BadWeb members. Our front line people get to know our customers pretty well (bikes owned, merchandise purchased, etc.), but I don't see you in our system at all. How long ago was this? I want to ensure that we're keeping everyone on the same page.

It was about a year 1/2 ago give or take. Was up at RWJUH for a few days with my Youngest for a Neuro Work-up. Had the In-Laws take me home the night before and left the Car with the G/F cause my oldest was having a really rough time at home without us.

Decided to take my bike back to the Hospital in the morning after I got the oldest to the sitter. And by chance that evening after being discharged and making a wrong turn I stumbled upon Liberty.

I had been scouting HD shops looking for
http://garagesalehomepage.com/userimages/5389.jpg

Actually we were just looking for the right size, we had found it elsewhere. She tried it on and it fit. Rest of the story was explained above. When I got to the register I was told that I wasn't eligible for the HOG discount cause I was on a VRSCR.

Also, pulled my Invoice just to be sure about the discounts I got from the place in Fla. And you were correct about 1 thing, 10% for the HOG and 20% was for going through them. And to offset shipping I suppose.

Just want to follow up on this. How did this fact come up? And do you remember who you were dealing with at the counter? Description? If this is happening I want to make sure we correct it ASAP.
