These tidbits are from Steve Plegge (Woof) on the MO-SIL HSTA Yahoo Group board http://www.underzen.com/videos/mattgorka.wmv A VISITOR'S GUIDE TO DRIVING IN ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI: The morning rush hour is from 6:00 to 10:00 am. The evening rush hour is from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday morning. Gravois Road can only be pronounced by a native. Construction on highway 40, 70, 270, 44, 55 and I-170 is a way of life, and a permanent form of entertainment. A St. Louisan from South County has never been to North County and visa versa. West County has everything delivered. If someone actually has their turn signal on, it is probably a factory defect, or has been on for the last 17 miles. There are 2 exits on Highway 40 for Clayton Road and 2 for Big Bend. All old ladies with blue hair in Cadillacs (driving on Olive west of 270) have the right of way. Laclede Station Road mysteriously changes names as you cross intersections. As do McCausland, Lindbergh, Watson, Reavis Barracks, Fee Fee, Airport Road and Midland. Drivers are starting to cut their OWN plates rather than go through the MO. Vehicle Dept. to get new tags. You can purchase tags from dealers behind QuiK Shops in the city. They are cheaper, the clerks are nicer, and the service is faster. You can go all four directions on Highway 270: North and South in West County, East and West in South County, and East and West in North County. Confused? So are the St. Louis drivers. No native St. Louisan knows that Lindbergh runs from South County to North County. And, if you tell them, they will not believe you. Lindbergh belongs to every neighborhood except Kirkwood, who had the nerve to creatively change the name to "Kirkwood Road." Never stare at the driver of the car with the bumper sticker that says, "Keep honking, I'm reloading"- he is. Any car parked longer than 4 hours in the city, is considered a parts store. Highway 270 is our daily version of the NASCAR circuit. YIELD signs are for decoration only. No native St. Louisan will ever grasp the concept. If it snows or rains? Stay home. |

Front left motor mount broke on Friday's "Good Friday" ride...Paul, John, Garth and , myself left from the QT...Sorry you couldn't make it Neil...After lunch and coming back in I-44 I felt it let go...Fortunately we were very close to Bourbeuse Valley so I dropped it off there and rode bitch with John home...I so much like doing that...So I am without a moto for the time being...Hope everyone has a Happy Easter... See Ya! Bob |

Nah Keith, it was the bolt...We ordered four of the bolts and washers so we can replace both on my scoot and keep a couple in reserve for John and I and anyone else who might need one in a pinch...Seems like we're collecting this small inventory of Buell parts that the dealers don't stock...We both keep clutch and throttle cables on the bikes and John has a wealth of oft needed spares... John had an idea but we don't know if Fuell will bite on it...How about a new regular column entitled "My Shortest Ride!" ...If it happens, remember you heard it here first... So I've been reduced to riding the DRZ upon which yesterday I immediately wacked my left knee on a small tree that today feels like it was a Sequoia...I'm going to have to go back and check...My field identification must have been wrong... John's bike is running strong but still a bit of predet and he'd really like to get it on a dyno and tune it correctly...That's his next priority... See Ya! Bob |

Friday, after dropping my scooter at Bourbeuse Valley and having the distinct pleasure of riding bitch behind John back to my house we took the cage to a speed equipment distributor in N STL to pick up the PIAA’s for the ST…Then on to PMS (the old Motorrad) to pick the carcass of the RT and let John have a final viewing…Having retrieved the Throttlemeisters and license plate we were standing around outside waiting for a RS to get back from a demo ride…In pulls quite a sight!…Vladmir from Belarus , Russia…John says his last name was Yankinov…He has been through 26 countries in EU, Africa, and Sud America…Then from Venezuela to Cuba and on to the US by sailboat…He’s already bagged 32 states and hasn’t been to the northern tier yet due to the wx…And, get this, he’s riding a Jawa 2 stroke that requires heads off every 500 miles to scrape the carbon off the pistons…The bottom of the scooter will NEVER rust due to the thick coating of oil everywhere…It would probably float in salt water…Near as we could tell, he’s basically panhandling his way around the world…That must take absolutely huge cajones…We gave him a bit of money but one of the salesman there, Rob, was going to get the honor (for the second time) of overnighting him at his house…The last time Rob said he set him up in his finished basement and made a specific effort to point out the presence of a shower…Vlad never did take advantage of it the two days he was there…Much to Rob’s wife’s displeasure…Rob, quite understandably, was not looking forward to the surprise he was bringing home for his wife Friday evening…We told him to just stop and buy lots of Old Spice and/or Vodka…Enough of the Vodka and his wife may survive this visit…Vlad taped up a US map to the side of the building that had a tracing of his route and pointed to the northwest questioning where to go…We pointed out the Beartooth and Going to the Sun and I hope he understood he’d have to wait at least until June to try and ride them…Otherwise they’ll be discovering this amazing archeological site from the 21st century in about 500 years in a glacier… But there will be no rust!… So then on Saturday I’m in the cage going up to Niehaus to deliver the PIAA’s and do a final review of what is to be done to the ST with the service manager and low and behold there, ahead of me, “smoking” along in the right lane of I-55 is, wait, can it be?…Yep, it’s Vlad so I get along side in the Mountford lane. Slow down to reverse and try to get Vlad’s attention to no avail…Use the horn, you say…And I would but Vlad is DEAF!!! See Ya! Bob |

Bob, I said his last name was "YankItOff". LOL This guy looks to be in his late 50's to mid 60's. He has two boys in their 30's. He got divorced and decided to ride around the world. He is a short fellow with a very long graying beard and a sort of crazed look in the eyes. He had lots of pictures from all over the world and kept a very complete diary with with him. By the way, I started that "Shortest Ride" section. |

This is from the HSTA Yahoo Groups list...If refers to a ride, dinner and overniter the MCRA is having at Neville's place near Viburnum this coming Saturday, April 26th... If you've been reading these posts you will know that Neville has graciously invited us to ride and dinner at his place in Huckey Puddle MO...Used to be a rink but it melted...From the Eureka QT it is 85 miles via the fastest route to Neville's...If we would LEAVE the QT at 0900 early we should be down there in time for their planned ride at 1100...The route down is W on I-44 to Cuba S on 19 SE on 49 E on V It's the second driveway on your left before the railroad tracks Unfortunately Shirley is going to Lexington for a horse event this weekend so I will have to return home after dinner to feed the animals...I would like to give Neville a bit of a heads up as to the number of us to expect so please add you name and your choice of overnite or return...The cost is $5 for dinner and $10 for dinner and, uh, BEER!...Thanks again, Neville... To sign up go to the HSTA Yahoo Group at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/MO-SIL-HSTA/ See Ya! Bob |

2?! Why limit to 2? I'm not positive I'm going. Since it looks like the big party is on Sunday (I'd want to leave my noon on Sun) and with the S3's shock leaking I wouldn't be able to run anyway. I'm probably better off getting the Blast and S1 back on the road. |

Hey guys, take a look over in the Quick Board section. It appears that Blake is taking a trip into the Springfield MO area and wants some suggestions on roads, restaurants and lodging. I am sure that some of you could give him some very good suggestions. Keith |

Weeell.... if the Trax was on Saturday I'd probably go. With it starting Sunday I'd miss it anyway. It would probably be my only shot at getting a Slay the Dragon II shirt ... I really need to get the Blast and S1 back together (forks still in CA, exhaust in OK, some parts still in transit..) |
