The swingarm on my X1 needs attention. The tail is polished, and no, Its not such a hassle to polish such a lovely curve often. But the swingarm if polished would be another story altogether. I have thought of polishing the swingarm, but opted to turn it black, as will the fork uppers in time. I have had some bits powdercoated before for other bikes in the shed, and not been too impressed with the ease of chipping this substance. What i would like to know is, would paint be less chippable? More durable and easy to care for?

When powder coating is done correctly, it is much more durable than paint. I have polished two swingarms on my last two Buells and they are not that difficult to keep polished. One word of caution, do not use S100 or similar products becauseit will white streak polished aluminum. I use BikeBright and it is sooo much better and it has a degreaser to remove that ugly road and engine slime. YRMV.

This winter i took my swingarm and Tail section off my buell and got them both powdercoated White... IT LOOKS AWESOME! but the swing arm isn't an easy task to take off.... about a 3 hour job. But it is very much worth the 150 bucks i paid for both.

I plan to have the same company paint a couple other parts as well... Good luck and happy trails for the painting.
