I don't know, I think it's pretty damn cool. A piece of history. Sort of like the WSM tower near Nashville: It's in a VERY affluent suburb of Nashville. But it's a piece of history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WSM_Radio |

It is a great story, thanks to all for bringing it to my attention, guys. It's really amazing that it would end up playing such an important role long after it was being seen as near obsolete. God, now I've got another reason (broadcast towers) to head out into the middle of nowhere besides checking out ghost towns and abandoned mines and factories. (hmmmmm, I think I have a map somewhere of some decommissioned NORAD arrays.) Now I ask you, on what other "Motorcycle Enthusiast Website" would anyone come across reference to a story like this? ....I did read the story carefully, and it drove home something my Mom spent her whole life reminding me of: Know WHEN to be stubborn........... |

My guess is there's some parallel's with this bit: "But the development of FM, particularly the ability to relay programming from city to city by direct off-air pickup (which Armstrong was demonstrating as early as 1936), posed a threat to NBC's domination of "conventional" radio - and in those Depression years, the challenge of selling a new broadcasting system to replace the already sizable existing base of receivers also made NBC nervous, particularly as it geared up for its impending launch of commercial television." So Sarnoff and RCA cut their ties with Armstrong, exiling him from the Empire State Building and removing his chief source of funding." |

>>>I feel smarter after reading all that. Read it again . . . . read about what happened after a major corporation booted an innovative and creative personal and tried to bridle them to protect the future interests of the corporation. As homework . . . . . take 3 balloons . . . inflate them. . . . fill your bathtub and try to hold them underwater. This will aid in understanding. LC, I am pleased that two of my good friends in Australia are, as of this week, new owners of Buell 1125s. It is interesting to read the section in the 3Q 10-Q about derivative "off balance sheet" trading operations undertaken to hedge against fluctuations in the Australian dollar. The more you know . . . . Court |

I wonder when H-D fixed exchange rates with currency contracts? Would they do it annually or as needed? Aus/USD exchange rate:
"As homework . . . . . take 3 balloons . . . inflate them. . . . fill your bathtub and try to hold them underwater. This will aid in understanding. " We have no bath, and no balloons, but I think I'd get wet! My 1125R should be ready for pickup on wednesday . |
