Hope every one made it home safe. I got home about 5:30 no problems. Dennis and I left East Troy yesterday, rode in the rain up Hwy 12 to Madison and then took the Merrimac ferry just as it was getting dark. We went towards Bariboo and there was a deer standing on the left side of the road. Dennis was riding towards it and I was waiting for his brake lights to come on, which didn't happen. Next thing you know, the deer walks right in front of him. BAMMMM!!! The deer was flipping and rolling in the ditch. No problem! The deer slayer got him and didn't even go down himself. We decided to call it a night and got a hotel in Bariboo. Today, we woke up to 30 degrees with frost and fog. We waited until 10 am to ride; went through Wildcat Mountain and the Cut and up to Alma. Thanks Dennis, for the great Southern Wisconsin tour. |

Wow Dennis. Geesh, glad you are ok. Sorry about being sick. Methed, PM me your address, I owe you some money. I hope you got the uly runnin right and made a safe trip home. Charlie zuzu (ted), I felt a lot better after I dumped the water out of my shoes in Osseo. I ran the Mc Donalds air driers hard. LOL. The rest of my ride was pretty smooth. Thanks for riding with me on the way home. MNrider, Thank you so much for letting me borrow your Handlebar muffs. You probabally saved my life! I dont think I could have done it without them. I hope you didnt need them on the way home. It was definately an adventure. Just to be clear, I would have done it all over again. BTW I just got home from picking up a new 1125R to add to the collection. (Message edited by rpm4x4 on October 28, 2009) |

Appears like I'll only need a new crashbar for the glide. Not even pricey enough to turn into insurance. No need to apologize Mike, you had it worse than me.Congrats on your new bike and welcome to the multiple bike club. Too bad you guys had to roll back on mon. as you would have enjoyed the backroads. Musta been late Dan as the misses didn't even here you load up and take off. Keep your calenders open for homecoming next year and maybe a group ride out. Dennis |

HOLY COW! This just in. After talking to the dealer and my insurance company (state farm), if the frame mounted tangs where the bottom of the engine guard bolts to are twisted they would consider the frame bent and total the bike.WTF I hope not but I'll wait on the adjuster to make the call. Might be in the market for a new bike myself. I'll keep you posted. Dennis |

Dang it, I tried to do a couple of post-via-reply-email things, but apparently nothing passed through to here. Anyway, I'm really glad to hear y'all made it back safely. Yes, I am alive and arrived at Dennis' place at a little after ten on Monday night, and then only slightly hypothermic. Looks like I'll be springing for some 'stitch gear sometime soon. Bike did okay--I do think that it was that bad plug wire, and that it likely fouled the rear plug since it seemed to get better as I rode. Might have also been bad gas. I'll swap out plugs and wires this winter and go from there. Glad you didn't freeze completely Mike. I too made use of a number of dryers--for some reason the rest stop janitor felt that a half-hour was the time limit on the thing. Wicked envious of your new steed. Let me know if the old one ever needs a new rider. And don't sweat the cash, though I am looking for a headlight guard if you've still got one around... Dennis the deer slayer, glad you weren't riding the tuber on the trip. Seems like one of those 'meant to be' things. Thanks again for the use of your driveway. Ted and Dave, if either of you ever want to get a ride going, let me know--always looking for new roads to discover. And if anybody ever finds themselves up in this neck of the woods, gimme a shout. Thanks for the good time guys! |

Dan, I had a VERY odd thing happen to my S2 last week. It started missing badly on the way into work. When I left, it ran fine (sort of) for a few miles then really started backfiring and missing. It was bad enough I had to stop at a gas station to check. Naturally I checked ignition stuff first. As the plug wires are right there, they were the first to get the wiggle test. Sure enough the rear one had backed off.... or so I thought. I started the bike, it ran like crap. This time with my helmet off, I could hear a puffing sound coming from the right side of the motor. As I got down to listen closer I could hear the sound of air hissing from the rear plug. At first glance I thought the plug may have loosened up and was leaking. Nope, it was coming from the ceramic insulator/plug base junction. I shut the bike off and grabbed the plug. The damn insulator moved up and down INSIDE the plug base about 1/4"! First time in over 43 years of wrenching I've ever seen that one. It was a stock HD 10R12 plug, I wonder who makes them for HD. Champion? My wife had to bring me a new plug and a wrench to change it out. Bike ran like a charm after that even though the only plug I had was a 6R12. Check the plug wire connection to the coil and the plug. A damp wire can cause all sorts of weird problems. Make sure you always use silicon conductive (dielectric) grease on your plug wires. Really helps eliminate moisture problems on the high tension side of things... Brad |

Yeah, I was thinking that I might have passed you guys. I stopped to add some gas and tweak my timing if necessary, but departed only about 20 minutes after you guys. Let me know if you'd be cool forfeiting your headlight grille Mike. A few more pics...

I'm riding to work as often as I can, I'm usually the "last man standing" at work. I was able to ride 3 days last week. It's down to me and one other guy now. Most have parked theirs already. With luck, we can go into December! My goal was to click over 54,000 on the S2 this year, I'm about 790 short... Off to the garage to change intake seals on the S2.. I must have knocked the intake manifold loose yesterday when I raised the needle a notch.. I had a bit of pinging and popping on decel during the post adjustment test ride. Crap. Brad |
