Okay so brand new to the 1125, and havent ridden any but my own. I had to take it back to the dealer for a rear brake issue, and asked about the engine noise, said it was normal. This thing sounds like it has rods knocking in it all the time. Is this normal??? Its an 09 CR brand new. anything down below 3500 or so just putting along it sounds like it has nuts and bolts rattling inside, and under 3k it is just to loud for my liking. Again I ask is this normal?? | ||

I think that is the nature of the beast under 3000. It is the cush drive bouncing around at low speed. When I pull the clutch the noise goes away. Check out this fix-http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/403796.html | ||

AverageJoe, I noticed this also while demo-ing the 1125 not too long ago. I purchased one a week ago. I noticed again that below 3500-4000 rpms it feels like it want to die. I also noticed that if im riding it at 3800-4200 range in low gears (1-3)it's fine. come fourth gear keep it at about 4500 or so. you will notice the bolts and nuts noises go away. IMO since it's a race eng it needs to be above average rpm. My opinion tho. | ||

Yep, mine does it. I'm gonna try the cush drive mod but below 3K it sounds like it's coming apart. | ||

elaboration: i think that in any gear it needs to be above average rpm to eliminate the chug-a-lug feeling/loose parts noise. when i bought the scooter it had 123 miles on it. now it has about 470. ive had the bike for about 5 days now; literally only about 6 hours on it. one thing did happen tho. i was in town cruisin along at in town speeds [35-40] and the eng just gave out for a split second and kicked back in. what the hell was that about? don't know. same issue?  | ||

Its normal, down shift, you have very little power under 3K. I try not to run mine under 3500. | ||

At low RPMs and light loads you might also be hearing the clatter of the straight-cut gears. | ||

Vtwin, i have yet to do so. i still need to obtain the service manual. I'm what the army refers to as the FNG. I learn soley by personal experience and hands-on. Or unless I can get the techs at HD to assist. will the noid alliviate this? Jdugger, by light loads do you mean people under 6'3" 210lbs.  | ||

Another note about it to you guys that may not know what I am talking about. I didnt notice it until I took a spin without my helmet. I cant really hear it with my helmet on but without its really noticeable. And thanks for the input guys, makes me feel a lot better about it now. | ||

Averagejoe, Not being able to hear your noise over the internet, makes it tough to tell what it is. That said, a v-twin's engine pulses at low rpm and a light flywheel do make things slap around a little (trans gears) at lower rpm's. | ||

If I had to offer a lesson on the 1125r, it would be "ride the piss out of it". It just runs better when you are hard on the gas or hard on the brake, but never coasting, and never using low RPMs. If you are under 5k RPM... DOWNSHIFT. A lot of "problems" people have with this bike just suddenly go away when you ride the snot out of it. It wants to be ridden hard. She's a dirty ho', and I love her for it. | ||

Averagejoe, It sounds like its probably the normal noise from your description. I took the inner air box cover off and opened up the exhaust on my bike to help cover up the engine noise. Also try to keep it over 3,000 rpm if possible. | ||

Okay so I get the damper thing, but mine sure sounds like metal to metal. Here is another thing I just notice rolling it into my garage after I let the gas smell settle. If it is in first and I pull the clutch and rock it back and forth a few inches it has a metal to metal slap like the cush drive has no cush in it. So does everyones do this as well. Sorry for the dumb questions but never had a bike that made metal slapping noises in the engine. |
