Anything I should be looking for? The bike is 4 hours away from me, so I can't go see it in person before I buy, but I can get pictures of basically anything. Overall looks in good shape. The muffler isn't stock, but I can't tell what kind it is. Airbox looks stock to me. |

Xl1200r, Wow, that is one nice looking S3T and my favorite color combo for non-S2 Buells. I would think you would want to check a couple of things like front and rear isolators, belt tension, cables etc. It looks totally stock which is a BIG plus. |

It doesn't have the stock muffler, but I don't know if the header is stock or not, and I don't know what the innards of teh air cleaner are like. What did the race kit consist of in 2002? What the AC replaced with a ham-can style or did you just get a different filter? Is that even the race kit muffler, or is it something else? |

That is the race header and muffler. I would look to see if it has the race ECM. Real nice looking bike and you will really enjoy it. They are real mile eaters! How many mile are on it? |

Race kit was the Header, Muffler, ECM, and CF Ham Can. The stock air box is an engineering work of art....just have to let the look grow on you. (Message edited by gowindward on October 27, 2009) |

How much are they asking, and what's their email? LOL Wouldn't mind one someday to match the M2. |

How much are they asking, and what's their email? LOL Which is exactly why I censored some of the pics to try and hide the location... I've been waiting too long for this bike! Bike has something like 12,000 miles on it. If it doesn't have the ECM, does it need it? Can I still get a race kit AC anywhere? |

Check the inner half of the hard bags for cracks. With only 12,000 miles there might not be any, but it's worth a look. |

And what exactly am I looking for with the isolators? |

Front iso you will be looking for tears on the under side of the iso. Helps to have a flash light. Rears...look for rubbing between rear header tube and frame. |

You don't "need" the race ecm but it's suggested. Race Air Cleaners are on ebay from time to time.. Race ECM (getting hard to find) http://cgi.ebay.com/BUELL-ECM-RACE-KIT-99-01-S3-AN D-X1-NEW_W0QQitemZ110450528985QQcmdZViewItemQQptZM otorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item19b75d52d9 Race Air Cleaner (Though I can't tell if it's for FI or Carb bikes) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Buell-Sportster-Car bon-Fiber-air-cleaner_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1 9b72e6ab6QQitemZ110447454902QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPar tsQ5fAccessories |

What do I need ECMSpy for? I have a cable that I got my XB when I was running Direct Link on it, will that work? |

Yes, that cable will work. |

Find out if rocker box gaskets were upgraded...they fail early (someone said the original part was made out of paper? it was upgraded)... Buy the bike either way, but be prepared to replace them if they haven't been. I bought an '02 last year with 7k on it, the problem arrived pretty quickly. |

Well, if you add the air cleaner, you're going to need to tune the bike a bit... |

Well, if you add the air cleaner, you're going to need to tune the bike a bit... Yeah, but if I have the buell race exhaust and buell race air cleaner, wouldn't it just be easier to spend $200 and get the buell race ECM? |

You'll also need to be able to reset the tps, which is $75-90 at the dealer everytime you unhook the ecm, or a one time cost for the ecmspy cable($25-45 depending on if you make it or buy it) and then you can reset the tps anytime you want. |

Well I have the cable already, so I'll just have to try and track down a copy of ECM Spy. So - find out if it has the Race ECM, check the isolators and rocker box gaskets. Anything else besides typical used bike stuff? |

Looks great. The things mentioned above are the right things to consider. It all checks out OK, you will be happy with the S3T. I have a black 2001 S3t with a Race Kit, PM wheels, etc. and I love it. Keep us posted. |

nice looking ride. originally had the low that got totaled and was able to find a standard to replace it. you will be happy to know, that color scheme was eriks favorite and as far as i know still is. tuber's are the best. they have the most soul. |

It's my favorite color scheme as well, but that's good trivia that it's Erik's as well. I'm crunching numbers and I'm gonna go ahead and move on this thing. It's too much of what I want at a good price for me to pass up. I'll keep you all posted. I'm going to keep this mostly stock, I think. Probably finish out the race kit, maybe change the seat if it needs it, throw some heated grips and my GPS and pick a state to head to. |

If it doesn't have a race ECM there's no reason to spend the $$ on one. Just burn a race EEPROM onto your stock ECM - same results. I've got race maps from my 2002 X1 I might be able to send. I only say might because my "garage-use" laptop has been blue-screening a lot lately. If I can get it booted up then those race maps are yours. Just PM me with your email address. |

Thanks, Pk - that would be a huge help. Does anyone know where I could get a copy of ECM Spy at this point? I think it's been discontinued, no? |

I'm sure someone can email you a copy... So, what did or are you getting her for? I'm curious... :P |

"Which is exactly why I censored some of the pics to try and hide the location..." Don't worry, I don't think anyone here would try to snatch it from you. Folks who own one like it are just curious about the price, etc,... Great looking bike. It looks like it has been taken care of real good. All the best. |

Not firm on the price yet. It's advertised for $4,700, I was told $4,600 on the phone (this is from a dealer, so there's a 30-day warranty with it, so that counts for something, just in case there are issues I missed once I get it home). I'm going to offer lower and see what I can get. I also did some searching on the isolator issues with these bikes and here's the conclusions I came up with: On a 2002, I shouldn't expect any issues with the rears. The factory-installed front is the best you can get as the replacmements aren't as good, as it seems that overloading the bike is the biggest cause for front iso failures because of teh rear shock pulling down on the front of the engine. Does that about wrap it up? |

A couple other questions... Did all 2002 S3Ts come with underseat storage bags and saddlebag liners? I thought these were accessories but I'm reading differently... Is there a pic anywhere of the underseat area on the S3? Is there much room in there? |
