What sucks is when you go out & post what you think is a smoking fast lap & then some guy comes by & does it 25 seconds faster. Thats the way it was at Road America. We were mixing it up pretty good & you think to yourself there is no way I could possibly go any faster, then you see your times are like 2:50 & the really fast guys are in the 2:15 range:( I really dont know how some guys go as fast as they do.

Blake,

Con'grats! Sounds like a ton of fun to me. BTW, didn't notice the answer to ...

What about sponsorship?

Dyna,

You said it. My best lap at OHR is a 1:36 something. That was last year though. I'm still trying to work back down to that. Sunday I got down to the mid 1:38's, about 14 seconds behind the MW expert lap record, 15 seconds behind the outright motorcycle lap record. No too bad, but I'm no where near full lean or top speed yet. :D

No sponsors yet. I don't want a bunch of stickers on my street bike! ;) But really, I'll only be contesting in maybe three or four out of ten total CMRA events this year. Maybe next year I'll get my act together and actually contest the entire Thunderbike series. Then I'll come knockin' for some help. Dang race rubber is expensive.

I know it's already been said a thousand times, but the only accurate answer to the question, "How fast does it go?" is, "It depends on the rider".

OK, anyone with enough guts and no common sense can jump on a ZX12 and go really fast in a straight line. But how long will this person's riding career be? Not very long.

Maybe I should enter one of these CMRA races on a ZX12. Blake would lap me on his Buell and that would prove once and for all what a piece of crap the ZX12 really is!!!

My '82 GS1100 did 85. In third. ( 4th & 5th too, it pegged there lol) Redline in 5th was 145 with the gearing I had, and it would pull it eventually. The '01 M2L easily out handles/brakes it. Do I have to modify the M2 to go as fast? sure, but the GS wasn't stock either, and it wouldn't do 145 stock.

If I can do 100 effortlessly, I am happy. I of course would have no idea, being law abiding and all. ( happy happy happy happy happy }
When I get a chance to run the 1/4, I'll tell you how slow I am.

I get asked that all the time. "That's a mean looking bike, how fast it run?"

"Uh, fast enough"...

You had me goin' for a while there Blake. It's cool that you're one of the few, the proud, the Buell racer.

Rippin Ryan

The new speedo sensor part number is #74431-01.
So far I have only 700 miles on this "new" sensor. I'll probably order a spare.

My general answer to "how fast does it go" is "fast enough to be impounded on the spot if I get caught before I kill myself". That usually makes the point about why I think it is a silly question in the first place.

Billfish... you want me to build you a filter? I can just mail it out, you will only need to connect 3 joints. Less then $10 worth of parts (including postage) and it'll save you a $50 filter. Email me offline if you want one.

Go Blake! Good to see you got out there. Beware, it is really addictive, really. Every time you go you will get faster and do better. That's the hook. Originally, if I didn't get lapped I was happy, now I gotta try to win. You'll love it. Congrads on the good showing.

Rick,
I just thought to myself... I wonder how Rick's last ride went. ;)

There was also a guy on an otherwise stock race kitted XB9R, Toby Leslie from Alamo HD/Buell in San Antonio. He is new to road racing but is improving every race. We didn't compete in the same races. My extra 50cc of displacement unfortunately makes the Cyclone illegal for any of the lightweight classes where I'd surely have better luck than in the F40 and ULGP classes. If I had known all the class rules at the time, I would have stayed with 1200cc's when having the engine worked over.

I think I'll try using the 220kph line. That should totally confuse most of the people that would ask that question.
