If this is the same filter, Aprilia's AF1 racing is charging $19.99 for a 2-pack. I think it might be the same part because that hiflofiltro site listed the Can-Am spyder and the "long" Aprilia filter as using the same part number as the Buell. http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.as p?idProduct=7770 |

Change that to a fall schedule. One of the reasons for changing the oil at the end of the riding season is so that combustion byproducts in the oil, like sulphuric acid, can't etch the crankshaft journals, bearings, etc. during storage. I ride all winter long. If the roads are clear, the bike gets ridden weekly at a minimum. I'd rather change the oil in the spring after my winter riding is done. As long as you run the engine long enough at operating temperature, you'll burn off the water and fuel. What most manufacturers focus on is the service interval, because that's what riders focus on, not whether a 6K mile service was $25 more or less. Most owners are going to take the bike to the dealer and pay a couple of hundred dollars for routine, scheduled maintenance. Agreed. That is exactly what I originally said, just stated differently. |

Now can someone find them with free shipping! I don't think you need to replace the oring every time. |

Buell clearly thinks you should replace the O Ring. Chances are if it is ok it shouldn't matter. Of course, $7 for an o ring is just as insane as a $20 oil filter. ac |

Hmm... Searched and looking. Could someone post the OEM Filter Part #? Also looking at those CanAm Spyder eBay ones - they really OK? as good as original? I'd hate to skimp on something like this and toast the engine to save a few buck$! thx! |

Well if it's good enough for the spyder it should be good for any motor IMO |

http://www.hiflofiltro.com/17.0.html?&L=0&sel_uid= 2528 They list it as fitting the buell. Motorcycle-superstore carries hiflo, so that's good enough for me. If you buy 4 on ebay, then they are just over $10 each, shipped. Beats the hell out of $20,t hey can shove the $7 o-ring. I just ordered 4 on ebay for $10.36 a piece, that's still a lot for an oil filter, the guts of an oil filter at that. I saw no oil filter listed for either the R or CR on motorcycle superstore, that's what an Emgo is right? Hiflo may make K&N filters. Just something I found when googling them. http://www.stromtrooper.com/forums/showthread.php? t=46360 Found it by searching their site for Emgo, then entering the bike model, not sure if that's the correct filter though. It only shows a spin on filter and Emgo's product search page isn't working. (Message edited by moosestang on October 27, 2009) |

What do you want a link to? The ones on ebay are here. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BRP-Can-Am-Spyder-R oadster-Oil-Filter-Set-2-Filters_W0QQcmdZViewItemQ Q_trkparmsZalgoQ3dLVIQ26ituQ3dUCIQ26otnQ3d2Q26psQ3 d6QQ_trksidZp3286Q2em7QQcategoryZ35620QQihZ025QQit emZ380171982782 The same seller sells 4 for $33.95 + $7.50 shipping. I'm not sure about the Emgo filters. |

found this info on a spyder forum: BRP part # 420956745 has “Rotax RB-X341” stamped on it as those who’ve done their own oil change will have noticed. This part also appears to be used in the new Rotax-engined Buell 1125R and is now used in the Aprilia 1000cc bikes. However older Aprilias need a new end-cap (as per the Spyder) to take the new, longer filter. The older, shorter filter used in the Aprilias and other BRP products is still used (K&N KN152, HiFlo HF152 etc.). Another K&N filter (KN556) is a replacement for BRP products, but not the RB-X341. as Ron_luning posted above, See this link for pictures confirming the Hi-Flo HF564 should work for the Buell motor (note the RB-X341 stamp on the tall filter at the bottom of the page): http://www.af1racing.com/store/scripts/prodView.as p?idproduct=7770 (Message edited by Torquaholic on October 27, 2009) |

After an e-mail to the Motorcycle superstore asking if the filter pictured was incorrect, and the right one for the 1125, here is a reply: "Well the one your seeing is a generic picture and would actually come as a cartridge type" They showed a spin on. Chris Johnson/Product Specialist/Motorcycle USA, LLC / Motorcycle Superstore, Inc. 1904 Skypark Drive/ Medford, OR 97504 Office: 541-618-7381 Fax 541-227-0046 chris.johnson@motorcycle-superstore.com Websites: www.motorcycle-usa.com / www.motorcycle-superstore.com I just ordered 4 for my 1125. They will be here in a few days. Total cost $30.00 with shipping. I will repost and let everybody know if they are duplicates of the stock Buell item. Bob |

I would check around locally for the O-ring. Nearly any hydraulics parts store should carry the O-ring and cost you pennies, not dollars. I'll have to find out the size when I change my oil, unless somebody knows, but my plan is to find that O-ring elsewhere. Wayne |

I'm going to get a regular filter today from the dealer for my 600 mile change soon but you can bet I'll save that filter and o-ring to find replacements. $20 for a filter insert is insane, I know how much those things actually cost. |

http://www.powersportsuperstore.com/ProductDetails .asp?ProductCode=TR14-0564&Click=8320 HiFlo filters for cheap Well i could have saved $3 when you factor in shipping. If you buy 4 then it's 9.52 per filter. If you buy 6, then it's only 8.68 per filter shipped. (Message edited by moosestang on October 29, 2009) |

Harbor Freight sells a huge 0-ring set for 9.95. Comes with a huge set of different sizes. I bought it because some of my cars use special 0-rings as well that the dealer wants crazy money for. Don't know if they have the correct size for a Buell but I don't see why not. |

I don't have the exact o-ring size (at the house), but for something like this, you can do 10 viton seals from mcmaster carr for about $8 before shipping...Even if you don't buy anything else (and you can always use something from mcmaster), and assume $10 shipping, you're still looking at only $1.70 per o-ring. All told with the price on cartidges you guys have been posting and it looks like you can do a $10 filter change. Good research everyone! |

You can't use an o-ring from ace hardware or home depot? They sell the black o-rings in any size you need. |

Maybe someone in the know could get americansportbike.com to start carrying the HiFlo HF564 . After looking on the web, I found that the Rotax powered aprillia sites have this filter for them. As far as the o-ring goes, reuse it unless you see a tear or it seems harder than normal, there is nothing wrong with reusing a rubber o-ring as long as you inspect it very good and find no splits.
