New 1125R rider - previously have had a Sporty, VRod, and Blast. My question is this If I'm cruising from light to light in first gear, and am riding at about 15-20mph with the throttle off, when I throttle back on - there's so much torque, I have to clutch the bike to throttle back on at about 3000RPM's otherwise I'm thrown back with a surge forward. Is this just the way that these high powered bikes are, is it a Map issue, or is this the 'noid that I'm hearing about. Thanks in advance! | ||

Yeah - I try to be really smooth - but we're not talking whack - we're talking a few mm of movement. Maybe it is really just that sensitive. | ||

Yup, these beasts are a little jumpy at real low rpms. You will get used to it, but one thing you can do to help is take the slack out of the throttle cables at the adjusters on the underside of the throttle grip. For some reason Buell liked to ship bikes with a lot o slack in the cables, which can make being smooth kinda tricky. | ||

Twist it just a bit harder and the front end will come up like nobody's business. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. | ||

I find the 1125r really does not want to be ridden at such low RPMs. I think you will find it smoother if you aim to operate and cruise in the 6k range. Just more or less strive to have that tach needle pointing relatively skyward. She's real smooth 5-7k, and there's really good power there, too. Much better than at 3k, and the throttle is a lot more responsive. | ||

Make sure you have the most recent map. Made a world of difference on the low rpm on/off throttle transitions. ANy of you not running the <ahem> aftermarket tuning solutions should make sure you have the latest flash. It is WORTH it. Rob | ||

How do I check to see if I have the most recent map? I just got it last week - I would have thought the dealership would have done it then if it were available... | ||

My 09 Cr does well 4k and above very smooth. Under 4k I can get some hesitation. | ||

"Yup, these beasts are a little jumpy at real low rpms. " It's been demonstrated that the 'jumpy' is caused by a too-lean fueling map in those conditions. Yes, likely because of the EPA. I made my 'jumpy' vanish by having it remapped locally using ECMSpy and a dyno. Expensive. On the other hand my mpg is also up from 35 to 38-39 mpg. I noticed this first when my range increased; then the computer display began to drop (FINALLY, after 17,000 km). |
