AAahhh......October at last!.....Here in California this is always a long awaited month. After even the "standard" summers radiation any taste of cooler weather gives hope and inspiration for the coming relief of October.Or did I mean OKtober..as in Fast? Long a Southern California Area Buellers Autumn get together to mark the end of a summer "OktoberFAST" was a reason to get together with our friends , ride the HELL out of the twisties and consume mass quantities in the Splendor of Ferris Buellers and Denise's Lake Isabella SuperViewHouse. Then, after a few of these we decided to try a stay over in the giant Sequoias...since thats the direction we always rode anyways.Discovery! Montecito Lodge....right on a lake in a beautiful high Sierra valley.Complete with a 24hr kitchen with real Chefs, two giant fireplaces to hang around and our own Cabin, across the lake , by ourselves.A dream come true. Here we will sample a little of what OktoberFast was for 2000and nine.
LA Basin Smog in the background.....cleaner air to come!
Lunch at Harley's Rock Inn at Lake Elizabeth.
Yes it's all rock....The Inn were talkin'!
Tehachapi Wind Farms
The upper end of The Lion's Tail or the Caliente BODFISH cause it's dirty , twisty , bumpy and fun.
We call him Bumpy....
And we had to tell him the lake was further than it looked...
Can you tell?.....we made it to the Bar.
Our Cabin at McNallys lodge.... (I know....theres actually 3 Buells behind that bright green looking thing....)
The view looking Northwest at Sunset.
Home of the 40 OUNCE PORTERHOUSE!
This is looking south , down the Kern River towards Lake Isabella. Kern River is supposedly the deadliest river in America.

Ebear, LOVE the pics! I've ridden the Lion's Tale and partied watching the lake at the Thunderdome, and somehow ended up living near Ferris anyway... Would love to go back. |

We're still not sure who got the short end of that deal, Prior, you or us... Great pix, Ebear, sure fun to see the gang and the 'hood again. We celebrated O'fast from afar, accompanied by suitable libations, and we burned beef on the very same BBQ that Al "I'm an intelligent drunk" Lighton tried to quench with D's squirt gun during the first Oktoberfast. (Say, does anyone else hear sirens?!?!?) Miss y'all. XOXOXOX, FB&D |

Here are a few of my sketches from the 1052 mile weekend o'fun. Brett and eBear have already captured some very nice pix so I won't duplicate what you have already partook of.
Obligatory Lions Trail moto photo.

The World Famous Hurl Deck.
Now I know why eBear insists on telephoto lenses. I sure wish I had one about this point.

Heading home. Hey, isn't San Diego/Carlsbad supposed to be at SEA level?
Slipping down this road to the 395 from Sherman's Pass is about one of the most exciting denouements in the world. We were JUST in trees! (Message edited by reindog on November 01, 2009) |

Looks like Laurie likes Kings Canyon. Or maybe shes happy to get off the Uly after the death defying curves.

Now I am just being silly.
Any time the moon gets framed in ANY picture makes for a good pix.

Thanks, Court. You would be a most esteemed guest at the Hurl Deck and if lucky or inebriated enough, could take it up to the next level. It would be an honor to buy you a clover leaf embossed Guinness the next time I can make it to your city tween the rivers. (Message edited by reindog on November 01, 2009) |

Thanks Tom! Was just reminiscing yesterday - sure miss that Dome and all the good times there. Cool that not much has changed with the roads, Sequoias, Monticito and all the great people who brought Octoberfast together. Don't remember the sign directing us to Dandy's though - or could be old age setting in. Gads, did I really say that? |

Thanks Court. Someone has to keep Estee Lauder and Miss Clairol in business ya know. Ebear - Agree with you - Al and Joanne gotta real heartbreaker there. Last I saw "little Zach" he was rock climbing the grounds of the Dome with Luke Barr - what a difference a coupla/few/five years makes. |
