Hey guys, here is the scoop! couple weeks ago I hit some hard rain for about 30 miles. most on the highway, it was pouring like crazy, an RV pissed me off so I dropped a gear and passed him (let off at about 105) few miles later pull off the highway and hit the backroads home (still pouring out) I get to a light and shes only on 1 cylinder. Rev to 3500 and both cylinders kick in....sometimes! mainly only 1. Stumbly home on 1 cylinder thinking water was forced somewhere it didnt need to be. she sat for a week then fired her up for a nice day ride. get about 50 miles out with NO probs. stop for gas and when I start her up....1 cylinder only. Give her gas and it clears up around 2500, back to idle and its just 1 cylinder again. I made it to the highway where she ran just fine!! headed for my pops place which was closer then my house to stop and check her out. Sometimes in the city it would only run on 1 and other times just fine.... checked my plugs etc.. at pops house, couldnt find anything. rode home no probs at all...... ANY IDEAS??? damn come-and-go problems! (just replaced plugs 200 miles ago and TPS JUST reset, AFV at 105) Also, if it makes a difference it has -Stock 9 motor internally -XB12 throttle body -XB12 Header -catch can -open air kit -xopti tune in the works when she is running on both cylinders she runs great! THANKS!!! -Robert |

How do you know it is running on 1 cylinder instead of misfiring/ running like crap in general? |

Per Al's rules at American Sport Bike: What was worked on last? Since you recently (i.e. 4ish running hours ago) replaced the plugs, carefully check your plug wires, and make sure they are properly plugged in/on at both ends. |

Well, when I replaced the plugs I also Installed -XB12 throttle body -XB12 header -American Sport Bike open air kit -catch can -xopti tune in the works -updated oil gear -resealed both rocker boxes no doubt it's only one cylinder in my mind. Sounds like a blast with low idle when it acts up. I just picked up new coil and wires to install. Going to bring my tools and head out Sunday and see what happens. If she acts up I'm gonna pull the plugs right there and see how they look. As well take my palm and see if ECM SPY can tell me anything, but I doubt it. I kinda think the coil is heat soaking, but not too sure. Thanks! |

What spark plug cables are you running? If they are the original ones, there is an improved version stock cable which seals tight around the spark plug and are a little more rugged. Much less likely to short out in the wet with these. The other mods shouldn't bring about a misfire unless you've got an intake leak wrt installing a different throttle body. That's easy enough to check out though. |
