I have a 08 1125 R. Been out on some country roads where we can open the throttle. At approx. 135 mph the bike gets quite a head shake. Have not tried to ride it through because of no run off area.Has anyone else had this problem ? I have checked everything I can think of and cannot find the cause. |

Suspension set up? Tire air, tires? Grip? - on another thread they are talking top speed, and thats never mentioned. EZ |

Make sure the suspension is set up right, correct height in triple tree, etc, and try relaxing your grip. Sounds nuts, I know. Sometimes you have to let it dance a little, and if you try to stop it, it gets worse. R |

The other piece of info that's important for addressing head shake is whether it's happening under acceleration, deceleration, or steady state. If it's deceleration, then it might be related to weight transfer to the front end causing the forks to compress, steepening the steering angle. A little more preload might help with that, as might a change to the height of the forks in the triple tree. I'm no suspension expert and I always thought it would be a great business for someone who is to offer their services to properly set up a bike (dirt and street). Imagine having Danny Eslick's mechanic spend an hour with you tweaking the suspension on your bike. |

I have checked tire pressure , rebound ,compression, and preload. A friend of mine suggested lowering the front end in the triple clamps but have not tried it as of present. The shake takes place during acceleration. Starts about 125 and gets worse at 135. When backed down to under 125 it stops. Just haven`t had the balls to try to ride it through on the roads. |

Check the tire balance first. I have done numerous tire changes over the years and have found that to be the problem, 50% of the time or even more. 1/8th of an ounce can make all the difference in the world. |

I know this sounds weird but if a friend has an R change his front wheel with yours and test it could answer alot with a little |

I've been up to 149 on my CR with no issues. The only headshake I've ever gotten is cresting the hill onto the straight at NJMP Lightning at 130mph or whatever and the front end gets real light and I'm hanging on for dear life. |

make sure your forks are set at equal heights in the triple clamps. Get a steering damper. |

Suspension is the key. My bike had a bad head shake when I would go through the kink at mid-ohio at 125mph plus. So I went and bought the ohlins to fix the problem. Which it did help. But then I had my suspension worked on and adjusted by a pro and man it made a HUGE difference. The guy told me I could pretty much take the dampner off because my rear suspension was way soft and was causing the head shake. The ohlins is a nice unit but can be tricky to install.

Dennis: B4 you change/add anything else you need to make sure the basics are correct. Many have suggested what your friend said but it did not cure what was wrong. |

I thought that lowering the front will give better turn in at the EXPENSE of stability? |

Fres - lowering the forks in the trees raises the nose of the bike... |

Ive had mine over that speed quite a bit on the track and never had any stability probs. Like mentioned, tire balance, not relaxing your grip. suspension to soft. Did you go through the suspension set up in the manual for your weight? |

Dampers are band-aids for improper setup sometimes, they just mask the problem. |

Sometimes you have to let it dance a little, You can't let your butt hole pucker. If you've seen Danny and the boys race, you see that front end get loose many of times. I'm buy no means a racer but have found when I feel the front end get a little squirrely I just loosen up on the grip a little and let the bike ride itself. You'll be good. |

I have only experienced shake when I am accelerating and the front is lifting and skimming the tarmac. |

How about SLOWING DOWN. Riding these speeds on public highways is irresponsible. Go to Jennings, or better yet, Roebling Road and sort this out! Sad to hear of this behavior but I'm just some old/slo rider. Guess I'll just go for a ride and relax. |

"How about SLOWING DOWN. Riding these speeds on public highways is irresponsible." I agree; the part you need is to replace the 'nut holding the wheel (bars)'. That's a 'lose your license for life' speed over here in Oz. |

There is always a safety nazi in every thread! If he wants to splatter himself all over a tractor crossing the road, then more power too him. I agree with suspension setup, it makes a night and day difference. |
