I'm finally converting my Ss over to an R fairing, and I'm wondering what to do about the bars. I'd like to leave the mirrors on the bars, not the fairing, and I really don't want clip ons. Think I could get a wide clubman to work without hitting anything? Also, I'm going to have to buy a new clutch cable (mine's in bad shape a needs replacing anyway). Should I be looking at another Ss clutch cable or an R cable, and what's the difference? Thanks! ~SM |

There's a type of wide clubman bars that you can usually find on eBay. Used with a set of 1" risers from PreEng that clear the forks and triple clamps It may even be more aggressive than the R's stock clip on's. I can take some pics of mine later so you can get an idea of what they look like. |

PreEng Fat Bar riser (I run the slim one) with 1125CR clubmans looks AWESOME. Feel's AWESOME. Upright and comfortable enough for LONG freeway trips. Great in the fast sweepers, PERFECT at the track, and perfect on rough bumpy roads with more of an upright dirt style (wide enough for this). Don't know if they will clear an R fairing but they clear all the Ss parts. I got the bars half off, they aren't cheap at retail. Mounting wasn' TO bad. To do with stock cables you need to drill a small hole in the right side of the headlight assembly (not sure what its actually called). Its the black metal case that is behind the bulbs, the hole is just behind the edge of the fly screen. Then the ignition switch is rotated forward a bit so the throttle cables can be more of a straight shot. I LOVE mine. Best mod to the bike so far, had OEM, Pro Taper Carmichaels and nothing is as good as these in the twisties and straight line comfort isn't hurt at all for me. Some complain about them being aggressive. To each his own... I am 18 years old but my R6 killed my wrists, improved body positioning helps. |

Search, I saw it on here first, I believe there were a few pics. If you can't find any let me know what you want pictures of. These are the bars IMHO that belong on this bike, atleast for me, and they sure look like they do. They wrap around the headlight assembly perfectly with nice tight tolerances. |

Hmm... maybe clubmans aren't exactly what I was looking for after all. I didn't realize how low they swept. I actually don't mind the stock bars, I'm just afraid they're going to hit once I install the R fairing. I just can't decide! ~SM |

Yeah never ridden an R for very long but the clubmans are similar... I think they are probably a bit wider and more angled which is a good thing, if you stick your hands out with your eyes closed and then open them, the angle they make is exactly what clubmans are. So even with really aggressive clubmans (these are not, atleast not with the riser IMHO) you are still in a very natural and comfortable position. Compared to OEM, its a big change. First time I road the bike with them (had Pro Taper so even more leverage then OEM) I was disappointed. Bike felt less flickable, my back hurt etc... Only took a week or two to get used to it. Now I wouldnt have the bike any other way. |

I guess I really should just go ahead and get the bits for the R fairing, install it, and figure out where to go from there... which sucks, because I want to get this done ASAP. Don't want to waste the nice weather! ~SM |

Why the fairing? Cosmetic? My bike with the clubman bars feels fine. Just tuck in and it flows right over you. If you just want the bar position I'd look into staying with the Ss fairing and putting lower bars on, badass look as well. |

There is no need to drill the headlight assembly. I managed to install the clubmans on the SS with the stock cable with no drilling whatsoever, you need to disassembly the clutch lever (keep the cable connected to the lever), install the clubman and then reinstall the lever (with its cable). It is not a big deal, I'll buy the uly clutch cable that is a bit longer and that will make the routing easier allowing a larger and more relaxed bending angle for the cable. OH! Yes, once you get used to those clubman you will wonder how could you ride with the stock bar. No coming back for me. "Yeah never ridden an R for very long but the clubmans are similar" Interesting statement right there. I HAVE ridden an R for extended time, and an S with clubmans. Not similar at all. The clubmans are further forward and carry a greater "downward angle". SM- your right, they will be too aggressive for you, a huge change from the stock. DO some searching (I will also for you) for some of the posts that others have made when doing an S to R front end swap. There are bars that will work well with this setup, and some have successfully used the stock S bars (but with a bit of faring trimming I believe). I'll start looking for you. |

I can't find reference to it anywhere! So...who out there is running a Lightning top triple and a Firebolt front fairing?? I know you're out there! What are his options for bars with this setup? |

I knew I saw it somewhere! Steve McKay did it on his UlyBolt. There's a pic in this thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/506043.html?1256108163 PM him and see what he says. |

Thanks for the info Andy. Yeah, I don't want anything too aggressive... my Ss does nothing but commuting duty about 90% of the time. Don't want a serious sport position with a heavy bag on my back. I've got the R fairing stay on order... when it comes in, I can play around with the bar height to see what bumps and what doesn't. ~SM |

I think that I also read somewhere the S bars work without further modification if you use a Zero Gravity windscreen, which it appears that's what Steve has on his UlyBolt. |

Yeah, I saw he mentioned that it would need to be the ST (sport touring) version, which I find odd, since the ST is the tallest. Seems like the tallest would be more likely to hit the higher bars and mirrors. makes me wonder just where the stock bars might make contact....? ~SM |
