That's some crazy prices. I'm driving from northern AR to southern WV tomorrow and Thursday. I'll be stopping at several HD dealers to see if I can get a good deal. Well, they're all good deals but you know what I mean. |

the guys here at the local HD seem reluctant to believe the rebate deals are going on. that or they just don't want to partake. they want to see other bills of sale. |

Does anyone have an official buyers offer from a dealership? I'm active duty overseas and I'm trying to get my military dealer price match but they need a buyers offer. If anyone could email me one at alan.hubin@gmail.com I would be forever grateful! |

"You should buy a vehicle; car, motorcycle, jetski, not as an investment but for the ride. A sale happens when buyer & seller meet at a mutually beneficial price. " In my experience this is only true in part; that is, it doesn't take into account the widely varying depreciation of vehicles by make. For example, compare the residual value of a Cadillac with a Mercedes (I'm talking leases here); you'll see that a Mercedes holds its value far better than a Cadillac. In everyday lingo, that makes the Mercedes a better "investment"; that is, it costs less to own. In my case, I sold my last Mercedes for exactly what I paid for it -- after 1 year's use. But that's a market action, for which I would blame neither Cadillac nor Mercedes. Contrast that with what Harley Davidson is doing: by giving dealers a rebate to blow the Buells out the door, they are actually PAYING dealers to devalue the various Buell models, including the 1125 series that we all own. Looking through the above posts, I see an average (and median, by coincidence, perhaps) current selling price of half of original MSRP (as STILL posted on Buell's USA website). Logically, if my 09 1125R was worth half of retail BEFORE the fire sale (which it was; I've been offered half of retail 2 times when trying to sell on eBay), then likely it's worth one quarter now at most (that is, half of half). And Harley Davidson did that to me, and to all of us. In my case it was a A$19,000 purchase, now perhaps worth less than A$5,000. Especially with the heavy competition from more powerful bikes (which every young bloke thinks he needs to have, whether he does or doesn't). I'm mad as hell, and we all SHOULD be. I bought this bike in part out of patriotism (I'm American) and in part because Buell was part of well-known Harley Davidson (also American). Now we've all been let down by Buell's and Harley Davidson's business practices, before and after the closure. (Message edited by redscuell on October 21, 2009) |

"I think most people will turn to a forum to find out how to check the oil and break in the bike to save $2000. Just a fact of the times. Economy is bad. ...dealers will piss off customers refusing to service bikes not bought there..." So lemme get this straight, not only did I not get the sale, I am going to prevent my service techs and parts department from earning revenue by rejecting work on a bike bought elsewhere. You are right avc8130, I deserve to be out of business. Any dealership doing that deserves their lot in life, second rate. We are not that kind of dealership but that kind of attitude expressed hurts us for no reason of our own doing. With regard to learning to check the oil and paying $2,000 difference - only slightly dramatic exaggeration there, don't you think? "90% of us know more than the person that is walking up thru the inspection stuff. Reading the owners manual will give you a better understanding than any delivery speech." Or at least you think you do. It is a pity if that is true, tho. Buell has made countless forms of training available for Buell service and sales people through Harley's Ph-D training and on-site instructor lead courses. I guarantee these are more in depth than anyone here has access to, sans Buell ex-employees & engineers. For instance, you can twiddle all the bits you like with ESP Spy but do you really think it is superior to a dyno tune under full load from idle to red line? Oh, your dealer doesn't dyno tune Buells? I see, I guess that low cost of purchase rears its head again. This trend of many Buellers not having any service work done at dealerships started long before the current economic problems started. We've been a Buell dealer since before XB's began and I saw that trend started with tuber owners because there were so few dealers available. Once XB's arrived, many H-D dealers took on Buell to get more big twins, (which were all selling out) and unfortunately some took them and stuck them in the corner and added no training to their staff for Buells. Accordingly the trend proliferated with owners doing as good or better service than some dealerships. In some circles, this spiraled. Those dealers are well known, and most should be out of Buell this year entirely. The remaining ones were not only supportive, they lead the effort to make Buell a viable brand. Continuation of hostilities towards them, continuation of non-support of their staff for work and parts, and you may see the one Buell dealer in your area you hope to remain for warranty work, gone. but i also trust this community to steer me right. Not accusing anyone here of false information but you do need to consider that you can read both sides of any given issue in posts here. But who here will back up their advice when a failure results with a fix? I mean besides a dealership? I could be wrong, but I doubt it. Look, if it sounds like I am teeing off here, sorry. We worked our butts off on Buell sales trying to grow the brand. We have riders come past as many as three closer Buell selling dealers, some as much as 120 miles, to buy and get service from us. I am pissed that the entire dealer network did not 'get' Buell and its eclectic riders, nor they them. Because all that resulted in was lower sales than the brand and the motorcycles deserved, and apparently lower revenues than the parent company could justify any longer. This Buell thing at Harley should have been a no-brainer; innovative designs, youth market, won a National Championship against the much larger accomplished foreign machine, etc. - but alas, like Saturn to GM, tough decisions get made, right or wrong. When the elephants get to fighting, the ants are the first to die. ~jammer |

I would argue the dealers expecting to get what amounts to full retail is unreasonable (sale price = MSRP - 5000 + title fees). Full retail = MSRP + freight + set up + title fees and as I said, I thought a fair price is somewhere between (MSRP - 5000 + fees) and (cost - 5,000). And how are 2008 models two years old when they have yet to really ship any quantity, and likely won't, of 2010's? Fair price is set by law of supply & demand. When the buyer and the seller meet at a price they both like, that is the fair market value. Everything else is the subject of business classes and bar room discussion. Since we are sitting in neither, I will cease and desist now. |

I just got 2 different quotes today... A 2009 1125CR OTD for $7300, and a 2008 1125R OTD for $5995. Do those prices seem pretty reasonable? Also which one is the better deal? (Message edited by westmoorenerd on October 21, 2009) |

I got a better deal but those quotes are fair. How far are you from Chicago Buell they have 2 2008 1125's at 5k each plus fees. Talk to Marti 773-338-6868. tell them Dan sent you and he will get you taken care of. They also had Buell TT which I have never heard of. Bike was marked down to $6200 plus fees. Looks like the big sale across the country is nearing it's end. I've been calling dealers everywhere and most will only sell 1125s for MSRP-Rebate now, with some raising their prices to be some of the few dealers left with one. I talked to one of the HD dealers and it sounds like they've started talking to each other about their prices. Still an 1125R/CR should be able to be had at around $7k OTD, not bad considering. |

I just put $500 refundable deposit on an 09 1125CR black (rather have white or red)new never licensed with the high handlebar kit already installed, $6495.00 and tax/lic brings it to $7431/otd. We have friggin 9% sales tax out here as no WA state income tax. I ride it Saturday morning. If I take it, I get a discount on the saddlebags/tank bag/tail bag and heated grips. Don't have the % discount yet. That is the best deal I could find locally thus far. Hope I'm doing ok on this. Dealer is in Seattle area. I did talk with one dealer who claims they have more CR and R in shipment, 09 models. Anyway, do I suck at negotiating or what?! Now if someone from Seattle area tells me they did the $5495 deal like in TX I will feel bad. I originally wanted to get an XB12scg but those are more than the otd price of the CR! |
